Those same shameless Liberals that Billy urged the good souls of Dorset to vote for at the last election?. All power to Billy; he's made a mint working his niche market. .
A Banker, a School Teacher, a Tory MP and a Daily Mail reader are sat around a table. In front of them is a plate, on which there are ten biscuits. The Banker scoffs nine of the biscuits, then the Tory turns to the Daily Mail reader and whispers in his/her ear "Watch out, that teacher is after your biscuit."
Of course, the words of this song can apply everywhere. Here in the US the Republicans have received Obama's blessing to save the rich at the expense of everyone else: not just the poor, but what remains of our middle class. No one really knows who to vote for. Maybe Billy Bragg?
when the tories go ill sleep again, thatcher screwed us all, and the ignorant middle and upper class re-elect them so the prolatariate get another blow below the belt. its ok as i know that at the rate they are going capitalism will fail as its the prolatariate not the bully boys who keep this country running
At a time when working class people are getting screwed big style by the Tories and their shameless lapdogs the Lib Dems, this song should be played everywhere where people demonstrate against the spending cuts. Funny, but I don't think the dinner lady or the school crossing patrol on £6 an hour caused the financial meltdown. Good on you, Billy.
Billy Bragg, please come play in Sweden! We need you now more than ever!
And to all my brothers and sisters struggling to make life better for working folks, keep it up! Give the priests their heaven, give the employers hell and leave the world for the workers!
@Letspreach no it was a song of the IWW International Workers of the World, the only union at the time unions were starting to be formed that included everyone, men, women, children, white, black, native, what have you. It still exists, and is a credit to the history of working people everywhere. Billy Bragg does one of the best versions of this, though so is the version by the late U. Utah Phillips, who was a member of the IWW.
Billy is a true hero of the working class!
