  • Another step towards replicator technology!

  • sounds abit like Imperial March off star wars lol

  • Brushed DC motors are not accurate or torquey enough at low speeds.

  • you know small brushed dc motors would eradicate most of that resonation and wont overheat and would be faster plus easier cheaper interface with feedback encoder. Just a thought

  • There's nothing wrong with the motors; they're mounted on a thin sheet of birch which resonates.

  • those motors sound like they smoke 20 a day, wt is wrong with them>!?

  • @bulletproofcourier

there are tuturial how to print an extruder for makerbots :P

you can build nearly any part just not the engines and other electronic stuff

  • We need one as large as a building, then we can print out homeless shelters!

  • LOL

  • It is available. Already been prototyped and is working in university environment. All it takes is a small matter of money to get it going. How big is your check book? Send PM for URL and additional information. ... Disclosure: I have no links to Makerbot or the 'big' makerbot. ... btw, the 'big makerbot' makes the buildings out of concrete.

  • Anyone else find the noise kinda cool? A bit like heavy metal. ;-)

  • or some crazy techno

  • combine this with the vaccuforming kipkay video and you have personal mass production

  • A great start to a promising technology, the possibilities are endless. If you can figure out how to extrude a quick-setting organic paste, the green revolution may embrace it.

I look forward to one day seeing a makerbot that makes the parts for more makerbots!

  • Actually it can already extrude several types of plant-based bioplastic including PLA and PHB.

  • look at the reprap, it is designed so it can replicate itself. Same technology different look

  • When do you think this will become detailed enough to make a glass that doesn't leak?

  • Due to problems with our extruder, the glass leaks.

  • just take a couple of shots and all your hard work will be paid off......

  • No, it's not. It sounds like that because they're stepper motors attached to a wooden box, which resonates and produces noise.

  • It sounds like it's thrashing itself to pieces. I can only imagine the mechanical wear happening on the stepper motors and gears. Tolerances will fly out the window after only a few hours useage.
