movie maker is a crappy basic editing software.

and adobe after effects is a composition program.

You place the three clips in line, place the effect on the upper two clips and make adjustments :) Let me know if you need more detail..

No, unfortunately not. It's a camera thing. The exposure determines the amount of light let in, if it's set to manual, it stays at a certain level until you change it, so it's basically still. If set on automatic, you run the risk of either shot having more, or less light let in, leaving a highly visible seam.

Yes, you certainly could :D It would simply involve cropping the other side(s) away from the frame... You could also do it the other way with masking in After Effects, which is a little more difficult, but yields better results.
