@itmozart it's quite about the same problem (probably worse than that) that applied on Liu Guo Liang in his prime. It's pretty fortunate for him not to encounter some strong choppers because his style is actually lacking a important element to be against chopper, that is as you said, topspin.

@itmozart Agree... I think that Kenta is more of a Counter-Looper... Not much of a heavy offensive player. He would do well in Women's table tennis and he could do well against some of the really hot Chinese players as he demonstrated against Ma Lin but he won't be able to outgun them.

I think Kenta's backhand is lethal.His problem is that his forehand is really weak.If he can improve his forehand,i believe he will be in the top10.He's talented.

you're right, control doesn't get you to the top. I think that in the future Kenta would have a similair position like Samsonov now has; a very smart game with amazing reflexes, but just not offensive enough to kill the top guys unless he's in perfect shape.

I agree with this-not a pure power player but able to compete with the top Chinese (nearly beat Ma Lin in Yokohama) because of his touch, his blocking and his varied spins. Does anyone else think that Kenta will be no. 1 player over the next few years?

Well, I think against Ma Lin's style he is very good, but perhaps not against others, such as Ma Long. There he may have little more trouble, don't you think? But yes I think he could be in the top 10.

@cje1__Good comment on the Waldner comparison. I see that too. He just needs an a stronger forehand. His backhand can be deadly, but his fh lacks power much of the time. His touch is incredible. Maybe Waldner can coach him/give him some good tips. It would be great to see his game excel. :)

Ma Lin is not a variation player, he is a power player, so kenta could just block back since his hand feel is damn good.

besides, chen weixing is also good, and has variation in long pips and inverted attacking forehand so thats why hes able to win.

Did you refer to this match against Weixing? It was taking place 2008, and Kenta was only 15 years old then, I think. And Chen Weixing is not unknown at all, by the way. Actually, Kenta looks a little like a young Waldner, great feeling!

i like Joo Se Hyuk way better than weixing, i think Joo is more agile and chops look dayum better than chen. Wei xing is more aggresive with his forehand though..

yup. joo and chen both have their specialties. since chen weixing doesn't have the fh chop that joo has, he compensates for it with a more aggressive fh topspin :)
