My comment was not directed at you. However, since you seemed to have taken an interest in what I had to say, let me clarify a few things.
1-The Haiti that I grew up in is very different from the one you have come to know today. Haiti used to be the land of knowledge. Most Haitians, namely Massillon Coicou, Antenor Firmin, Antoine Dupre, Boisrond Tonnerre, Oswald Durand, E. Vilaire, etc, were not admired and honored by great scholars all over the world because of their ability to speak creole
2- isnt nothing wrong with that. Teaching Creole and French is what we need to do. Everything is develop. SPEAKING CREOLE ISNT WRONG CAUSE THAT IS THERE LAG 100% of the island speaks that. You go to school to learn french just like i went to school to speak english everything can be learned. Educational base system on creole yes there is cause people go to school in haiti to learn creole in non private school. DUH. AND YES IM A HAITIAN. just cause you dont call it offical its offical in haiti
Having said that, I am not advocating for the elimination of creole. All I am saying is that if you look at the history of this country, you'll see that creole has always been marginalized. And there is a reason for that. Progress in a society depends entirely on its ability to communicate not only internally but also externally. When I was little, I was forced to speak french, english, and spanish. Creole was a luxury item in my life. However, that has nothing to do with my love for my country.
No creole is the Lag of the country. THE luxury is the other lags. Creole is looked at as bad lag for the people that speak french. Yes we should learn an outside lag in the country french will be the easier one. But think about it if french was thought through out the country and school and if education was free there will no long be creole because 100 years later all the uneducation haitians will be dead and french will be the lag cause there will no longer be the grandmas to teach the creole.
French is not an outside language in Haiti. The official languages are: French, and until recently, creole. What you do not know is that creole was not seen as a language during the creation of this country. How far can you go with creole? Do you have any books written in creole? Do you have a creole literature? How many people speak creole in the world? What advantages do creole offer? You see, progress does't run on pride! If you really love Haiti, you'd understand that creole is not the way..
Now, you have to understand that creole is a language of convenience. This language was created out of the many languages we were influenced by over the course of more than three centuries. In creole, you find parts of: english, French, Spanish, African dialects, Indian dialects, etc. Remember, Haiti is not a homogenious nation. In other words, Haitians don't look alike. We are the fabric of a melting pot. We cannot have a uniform language. We do not have a uniform society. Think about it...
Do you know why we are moving backwards as oppose to other nations in the continent? WE ARE NOT UNITED. Do you know why we are not united? Well, our policy has been centered on "one shoe fits all feet". If we understood that one view doesn't necessarily represent the views of the whole country, we wouldn't be where we are today. It's not up to you, him or her to determine what's good for me. In Haiti, everyone thinks they have the solution. But they don't realize that we don't need one solution
Creole maybe good for you, but it is certainly not good for every Haitian. If Haitian leaders understood that Haiti cannot be run with one set of ideas, we wouldn't be moving in wrong direction. Since everybody is left to fense for themselves, those who don't have the means to move forward are dammed for ever. I think we whould stop thinking for ourselves through Haiti. The future of many haitians are at stake. Democracy is not what we want for our people. Instead, democacy is what is needed.
Many people are blinded by selfinterest. Oftentimes, they see Haiti as their own country. But Haiti is not YOUR's ony, it is OUR country. I know for a fact, if I were forced to speak, read, and write in creole only, I wouldn't be able to chat in English with you today. Now, how many young haitians are we destroying by forcing them into creolism? Now, there is nothing wrong with creole. But it should not be imposed upon the people as their only identity. Let them make that choice for themselves!
1- the mississippi thing.. there is a lot of old racist people living there. Right? They have lived like that 4 years so its hard for them to change even though some of them know its wrong but its a way of life for them. For the older haitian to look at haiti in another way it will be hard because of lot of them dont have the education and the mindset to fight it. Correction the american revolution took place in 1776 and the blacks who fought in that were native to the US. Haitians helped with the civil war in savannah, over 300,000 blacks fought in the civil war in the union army. Haiti was not independent until 1804.

making creole the official language makes it very difficult. Books can be donated by countries that speak French,teachers and volunteers. But by making their own language they are isolated. Haiti is too poor to have that isolation. Many countries in Africa get help by volunteers because they speak French. Creole also makes it difficult if they leave Haiti. At least in canada and France they can have an easy time. But if they only know creole, they can only stay in small haitian communities.
im not saying there is anything wrong with learning french and teaching the children in school french but when we as haitian people understand that creole is our lag from a young age we will learn to love ourselve i think they should teach both in the schools. but not make it seem that the people that speak french is better than the people that speak creole they need to get that out of there mind. keep the lag going and learn more to educate the haitian people

Haiti is not THAT bad. I mean I have family in Cap and I mean they are poor but not too much worse than my Dominican side. But the worse parts of Haiti are worst that the Dominican ones. Yeah canada has a really good immigration laws they support the people that support there county unlike the USA the people here think that immgrates want to take but when really all they do is give. i do agree with you on haitians going to DR making problems with Dominicans that is a problem. But the fact that cubans made miami in to what it is today. Everything was taken away from anyone in miami because no one could get anything in miami because you dont speak spanish. cubans didnt make miami into what it is it was giving to the cubans and taken away from everyone else. Haiti was NOT left destitute by the French, and you know it, even with the high ransom demanded by Napoleon not to invade again. Haiti had plenty of resources which were ravaged precisely by 200 years of independent chaotic rule. Instead of dwelling on, romancing 1804, and DEMANDING all kinds of breaks from the so-called world powers, younger generations of Haitians have the challenge of getting and moving on their own. Which modern, African country has been independent for 200 years like Haiti? PREVAL AND ARISTIDE the few politicians w ho address the people in Creole.Yes the pres ident does speak creole to the people.He only speaks French when he is abroad. Having hi m speaking creole is not the solution but edu cating the people as I said in my previous pos t.Knowing a language means 2 be able to sp eak and write it properly. people give me a freaking break.The problem isn't the languages but the people who use th em as tools to create division.Official or not,Go od or bad,both languages're part of Haiti's hist ory.We use French as a lingua Franca to trade and deal with the intl world.We need creole to keep our national identity. The solution is that all Haitians become literate and learn both languages.If none of you're happy with that,th en let's make English the official and only lang uage of the country.

I do agree with you. But the over all LANG in the country is creole more people speak creole then french. We use French to commu. with the other side world. But I feel when the president is address his people he should speak in creole cause thats how everyone is going to understand what is going on. Haiti did have much money given to them to build by many countries. U.S. ,Europe. . Build infrastructure. Mk it like DR n get tourist to fuel economy. Bt greedy leaders won't allow that. Having said that, I am not advocating for the elimination of creole. All I am saying is that if you look at the history of this country, you'll see that creole has always been marginalized. And there is a reason for that. Progress in a society depends entirely on its ability to communicate not only internally but also externally. When I was little, I was forced to speak french, english, and spanish. Creole was a luxury item in my life. However, that has nothing to do with my love for my country.

Correction the american revolution took place in 1776 and the blacks who fought in that were native to the US. Haitians helped with the civil war in savannah, over 300,000 blacks fought in the civil war in the union army. Haiti was not independent until 1804.

making creole the official language makes it very difficult. Books can be donated by countries that speak French,teachers and volunteers. But by making their own language they are isolated. Haiti is too poor to have that isolation. Many countries in Africa get help by volunteers because they speak French. Creole also makes it difficult if they leave Haiti. At least in canada and France they can have an easy time. But if they only know creole, they can only stay in small haitian communities.
