Daley Thompson was one of the greatest competitors ever. He would have a poor (by his standard) event and then do a personal best in the next one. He would smile and joke but the minute he had to get ready to take part in an event, you would see his face change. It was as though he could forget everything else and focus into what was needed to do his best. It was amazing to watch.

And btw - what a body!

The greatest male athlete in history. He never competed in an international championship at home and yet was unbeaten for almost a decade. He was up against fierce rivalry from Jurgen Hingsen with whom he exchanged world records regularly and still he won when it mattered - he even beat Hingsen (who was an amazing athlete in his own right) in Germany in 1986.
