I remember in an island community ,in 1958 or so, when digging a well , my late father as a PWD contractor unlike chalk in other places ,encountered few rocks half way throught. Exposives were usded to blast them. Similar techiques were used when as an engineer to dig irrigation tunnel for major water project ofcause the horzontals holes were about 8 feet long in 1974-1975.

well i wouldn't say no water quite yest the shallowest well i have seend before is 200ft and he is only a quarter of the way down. my inlaws just had one dug and it was 540 ft.
