The owners of the Metrodome should just have the roof removed and make it an outdoor stadum. Football and baseball are two sports that DON'T belong insid domes! The stadium could still be an asset to both the Vikings and city if the roof is removed for good.
@imperialscot I'm gonna take a shot in the dark and guess that you're not from Minnesota. Say this when you're at a Vikes game in the Dome freezing your ass off when it's 7 degrees outside. :)
@melissarosemorrison Obviously YOU don't know your Vikings history.... They once played OUTSIDE at the old Metropolitan Stadium before 1981! And if YOU watched the BEARS-Vikings game this past Monday night, you would have heard comments about the Vikings owner being in favor of the Vikings playing outdoors again... The size of the crowd at the Gopher hole Monday night would also indicate the fan base wants the same thing!
@imperialscot I'm just saying that it gets cold. I live in Minnesota and the last thing I want to do when it's single-digit weather outside is freeze my ass off at a football game. I'll leave that to the dedicated lunatics. And the only comments I heard were complaints from the players having to play outside.
Conan O'Brian must watch Youtube. Cause he told this exact joke last night... Or night before last, I can't be sure. I'm sorry, my internal calender doesn't work for crap.
Call me crazy, but Inflatable fabric roofs don't seem appropriate. There are 20 Mexican guys standing outside of Home Depot that can build a better roof than that.
@MrMentalflossed I kinda thought that myself. It seems to me these bubble type roofs have collapsed before. You would think in Minnesota snow would be almost the number 1 priority when designing a roof for a stadium. Oh well, I'm going to go watch some football. Cheers!!
@melissarosemorrison ok so your implying that since that dome was constructed it hasn't snowed more then 22 inches in a single day ??? oh come on ,.. and even if that would be the case ,.. it was a poor design for the area,.. obviously , as it fell apart,.. 1st rule of engineering , build it 5 times stronger then the load you know it will take,.. so what caused it to fall again ,.. snow in min or bad engineering , or perhaps some form of upkeep flaw? doesnt mater FAILED design
@MrMentalflossed Before providing any more engineering advice, you should check your state's requirements for licensing. I am not a structural engineer, but designing for 5 times the load may be a bit excessive. If everything was designed like that, costs would go through the roof (pun intended)
@jr2oz wow you just advised me to look up, what i have already looked up- exactly what the code calls for all load bearing public structures ,.. THANKS for making my point!
Reminds me of the Rutgers bubble collapse (it was an inflated bubble and it was subsequently restored, and went back into operation for football practice.)
How could this happen to a pro-football stadium? My grandpa's chicken coop...I can understand but this...what exactly is the roof made of? It can't handle snow?
Mind you I'm in Cali so I have no idea about life in the snow...
@carbomb19 It's an inflatable fabric roof. I've been there, it's pretty impressive. But this has happened before a couple times, and it's deflated before. A fabric roof can only take so much snow, and over a foot of snow tends to get pretty heavy.
@melissarosemorrison yeah it was a poor design choice for the area to say the least,.. out in cali ok ,.. arizona ok ,.. someplace it snows like there , the engineer should be slapped silly for even suggesting it.
@sloppiesghost I didn't necessarily mean the roof of the stadium. Maybe the roof of someone's house or place of work. I mean, THAT would be hilarious, wouldn't it? You know, since this is so funny and everything.
Stuff like this is only funny if you're stupid. Then again, if I had to take a guess at which team most of the people that are cheering for this are fans of, the stupidity would come as less of a surprise.
@TheGonz17 Comparing homes too stadiums... Those seem to be to different types of structures, for different purposes. Unless, you, live in the stadium?
This would be funny to you, (and I am just assuming) if you were not a diaper wearing glue sniffing Queens fan.
Those of you that are cheering and or laughing about this are nothing short of complete and utter morons. Maybe we'll get lucky and your roof will collapse.
@Moderwarfare2addict Psh, remember when New Orleans FLOODED and your field was fucked up? Yeah, I bet you'd have liked it if people made fun of you too... AND you didn't even spell GEAUX the correct creole way, congratulations, you're a complete and TOTAL moron.
Fox just showed a vid of this happening using the network cams. Starts w/leaking roof, rhen it sags til it breaks. Look for it during football coverage.
Seems no one got hurt? That was a Blessing!

they should of gotten generators to melt the snow on the top to create water that slides down the roof

@MrMentalflossed Poor upkeep? No. Look it up, it's designed so snow melts off. There was just too much of it at one time, hence the gaping hole.
