With the equipment available these days there should be no need for rear tailgate spreaders to be used period. Unsafe practise travelling down the road with the dump partially up. Single axle trucks with that gear and load are overloaded as well.
Definitely MN. At 3:26 you can read the MN south 13 sign to shakopee and north to St. Paul. And I recognize the bridge at 4:51, and the MN State trooper at 6:42
Welcome to NORTH DAKOTA there in fargo there plowing the I94 there and then in down town Fargo,ND and they don't salt or sand unless they have to so welcome to my state.........hope u come back ya here!!! lol
I recignized the MNDOT decal on the tractor near the left rear tire. I noticed that very erly on. There were a lot of clues that this video is form the Twin cities. Like the Hennepin County plow truck, the City of Minneapolis and so on. I guess you missed those things. I hope we get lots of snow this season 2010/2011.
Snow clearing is a fun and dangerous operation, I still cringe watching box up salt spreading. We used Sterlings and International ( my favourite) with Epoke combi spreaders. They utilize a hopper type spreader similar to a bottom empty gravel throwers. You can meter salt and brine output separately and the load stays low to the ground always. Like in Minnesota, we have cold enough temps here that prohibit salt effectiveness, so pre-storm brine application helps to keep salt effective.
Man, you either are a city works superintendant or a guy with way too much time or your hands!......jus kidding!
Where I live(Toronto, Canada) we use some different equipment to manage snow and ice....plows and wings are similar, but method of spreading salt(and a brine mixture) are much safer to use and tons more effective and cheaper than what you guys are doing.....The dump truck plowing in echelon on the highway with the box up is a classic example... box up spreading is dangerous...
Yes box up spreading is quite dangerous. In Montreal where I work we don't use wing on our trucks, DOT use them on highways. whe use boxes with rear or left side spinner. Six and 10 wheellers are used. My favorite is a Sterling Mercedes powered 10 wheelers with a side spinner, plow under similar to the last truck show, conveyer on the left side of the box with hydraulic lifting the box on the right to get the salt to the left side, my favorite truck that I use on the weekend night shift!
