Excellent video! I've been to the US Nationals several times with my Dad. We went every year up until a few years ago because of his health. He never missed one since 1961 until just a few years ago and always tells me the stories of the good ole days. Its great to finally see it though.
@jamespetit1 Yes, it will never be that way again. I think in another twnety years or so, it will be gone at the local level, if not before then. Other than the sons of a few current racers, there's no new blood coming in to the sport. There is an okay turnout for bigger events, but on a regular weekend, it's getting dismal. Very sad.
Thank you for posting this. It takes me back to when I ran around the track. If you can find any footage of Eddie Flora in the Anglia called "Locomotion"...please put it on here. It was a CC/GS 4 door Anglia....I remember Eddie Flora, Fred Hurst, Jerry Ault and alot of those here in the mid-west. I miss Pence's....aka Shelby Raceway! Reminicing of the 55 Nomad wagon that my Uncle and Dad had...
Ronnie Sox used to make a 4 speed sing like a car with an automatic tranny....He and Buddy Martin...Bill "Grumpy" Jenkins...they were innovators and Drag Racing was their LOVE!
@osubrownfan Wish I could find the video, but you reminded me of it. Somewhere on here there is an in car run down the strip of Ronny Sox, in his early SS days, showing him row through a four speed. It's spooky to watch, thinking that box cant take that kind of torture. But you are right, he made it work!
Sorry you missed these great days at Indy. "Dandy" Dick Landy, "The Drag-on Lady" Shirley Shahan, "Dyno Don" Nicholson, Bill "Grumpy" Jenkins, "Akron Arlen" Vanke, Arnie "The Farmer" Beswick.............the list of memories is endless.
fantastic video, so many great memories!!! reminds of union grove back in the day

What a great video. When drag racing meant real cars! BTW, that is without a doubt one of the most incredible drum pieces ever.
