Getting a college education now requires that you build-up credit card debt, a shitty job now comes with shitty pay, and a candy bar now costs $3.00 when it used to cost just .50 cents.
And this is all happening while the boomers discuss more important issues of the day. You know, like how vital it is that gay couples are kept from eating wedding cake.
"Every American deserves the opportunity to climb up the ladder of success."
look at the fucking boomers, bashing generation Y as lazy and entitled. Just like they did to genX. These pricks are just projecting... They seem to be happy to call 3 generations following them lazy and lacking work ethic. They are full of shit. They are the ones who have fucked everything up with THEIR ENTITLEMENT BULLSHIT!
I give points to both guests. There are truly many smart, hard working and competent people in Gen Y, especially within tech and science. And like shadowroomdc says, if you take (given you can get it) a large set of applicants, you will find exceptional and engaged individuals among many just with an education in the field and looking for a paycheck.
On the other hand, many Gen Y in jobs such as pizzeria or store clerks work just so they can have a paycheck, and no more engagement.
Gen y are committed and loyal if treated fairly. And moving back home for most is a smart economic choice. The boomers have screwed the world up, that is why we only let them have two terms at President.
wait... woah woah woah... "WE?" DUDE... OLD FART WITH THE GREY HAIR.. you are NOT part of the "greatest" generation! you are a FUCKIN BABY BOOMER! so STFU YOURE THE REASON WE HAVE TO SUFFER DUE TO YOUR MISTAKES LEADING TO OUR FAILED ECONOMY! FUUUUCK YOUUUU
i don't see anything wrong with wanting a job that pays well but doesn't require much work it isn't very realistic but it would be great to have hahaha
Allen has hit the nail on the head. Das's nightclub is a nuisance to its residential neighbors who fought it before it opened and currently fight it. Das could care less about their concerns. He is not a productive member of the community as far as his ridiculous club is concerned and is slowly eroding the fabric of a decent residential neighborhood to selfishly expand his profit margin. He is a mushed-mouth, oily, double-talking a-hole.
Everything that the Boomer stated about Gen Y at the beginning, described the Boomer "Me" generation perfectly. If he wants to blame Gen Y for not having good role models and being raised in a single family home, he only needs to look in the mirror. Most of Gen Y parents are Boomers.
Alen owns a pizzaria who's had a bad experience with Gen Y. Swaptak is the owner of a high-tech club who's had a good experience with Gen Y.
Gen Y won't stay with a company that doesn't challenge them. It becomes boring to them (they're kind of ADD). But they can be intensely focused in short bursts, therefore boosting productivity.
Alan must not be challenging his employees or keeping the workplace enjoyable and professional. This is what a Gen Yer looks for in employment.
In fairness, I did agree whole heartedly with the boomer employer towards the end that there is a lot of fear, both irrational and justifiable, that's causing Generation Y in particular to act on impulse. . .
Soren, I agree, I'm stuck in such jobs myself, it's sad. I know for a fact most can be automated. I've even suggested such automations to my employers knowing it will replace my job. I know in the long run losing my low wage unskilled job due to technological advancement is better for us all in the long run. It forces us to come up with true solutions. I'm 29, I'm getting old, the jobs being offered can't buy a house or raise a family. No amount of hard work in the service industry will help. ..
@SavertonJr Not that young considering my boomers parents bought a house, had a family, and two automobiles all in their early 20's. This is the case for most from this generation. For most people, our parents were relatively much better off around the same age period. 29 isn't that young at all considering I might live to only see my 60's (mostly due to health problems).
I understand what he says by instant gratification.
We now have the technological potential to streamline and automate those redundant jobs and tasks that the boomers had to deal with, as what they call "doing your time" or "paying your dues"
the trouble is technology cant reach its potential for the fear of job loss.
the whole point of civil society is to advance and better the lives of the civilians. but the very advancements
go against the way in which that civil society operates.

shadowroomdc says "We (Gen Y / Millennials) have a good start... Google. Facebook. Paypal. Enough said".
But actually, Google and Paypal were created by Gen Xers -- who were born between 1961-1981.
