I just started singing this out of the blue today, and a Soul Train video to go with it too, what a result. I have often heard it said, 'only in America' absolute hands down classic, excellent post.
I always liked this song more than Pillow Talk, which was a king sized hit song...THANKS FOR POSTING THIS...I HAVE LOOKED FOR IT FOR YEARS, AND HAVE MISPLACED MY 45 SINGLE OF IT!! THANK YOU!!!
Sylvia and her record companies were true innovators in the progression of Disco, and then Rap Music...Shame, Shame, Shame by Shirley & Co was one of the first legitimate Disco songs. Her record company Sugar Hill Records released some of the first Rap/Hip Hop Records. I'm not sure if some of her rumored business tactics were the greatest, but Sylvia was years ahead of so many others in the industry when recognizing coming music trends!! INNOVATOR! This song should have been a monster hit!!
So sad to read of her passing. In my early teens, I bought her Pillow Talk single when it came out. It was pretty risque stuff then but I was drawn to it musically. It paved the way for lots of great mood music from the likes of Barry White, Marvin Gaye and others. She was a formidable songwriter and producer not only for herself but for the Moments -- the most underrated musical artist I know of. In fact, among female soul artists, I can't think of a better songwriter than her.
THis is a smooth classic R&B joint, Old School.Sylvia was good, this was 12 years before I was born.THe 70s.I've known this song since spring 2010 when I saw this Soul Train episode on Centric.
i told DJ Vince from Norwalk Records in Norwalk, California, who does know his music. Trust me he does. But when I told him about this record he was unawhere.
But he fell in love with it. I love spreading the knowledge of Old School R&B music.
I was born in 1962, R&B music, or Soul Music as it was called back in the day is my favorite. And I'm always still learning and remembering the R&B classics!
I had the pleasure to have worked for Mrs Rob"Sugarhill Records"1995-1996
Sylvia was still hip as ever, and she still could bring it!She retired on top!!
Ohyeah Mrs Rob"Sylvia"aged gracefully, still a beautiful woman till this day!
Yes she is under rated. She also is a giving person,I once drove her in my van to pick up toys and other gifts for kids in New Jersey and the Bahamas.Slyvia is awesome!Thank you mrs Rob,cause I learned so much from you!Stay Blessed
Look how hip and cool she was in the early 70's. No wonder she was partly responsible for getting that stuff on wax we later came to know as rap/hip hop.
