  • Ur neighbor didn't call the police

  • haha ah man I've been listening to a lot of Wiz Khalifa because he uses a lot of old funky beats. As soon as I heard "Theme from the Planets" by Dexter Wansel I immediately recognized it from Wiz Khalifa - Spotlight. Your videos never cease to amaze me. =D

  • I smile during every video. BEST set of videos on YouTube ever! I LOOOOOOVE hip hop music, the funk and all the music that is tied into the hip hip culture. Sometimes I listen to classic rock songs and think they'd sound SOOO good sampled, and you've shown some of these bands...i.e. Steely Dan on one of the earlier videos.

  • Hell Yea Funk!!

  • i know its random, but who knows the sample to

    save the day - ATMOSPHERE

    ...?!

  • Wicker Rap is not Funkin for Jamaica but actually "Thighs High" by Tom Browne. (same artist)

  • The Evasions didn't "rip off" or even sample Jamaica Funk and Good Times as such. They actually re-recorded it, playing the instruments and singing themselves. Unlike talentless fucks like Kanye West and their ilk who just steal shit, and then spew their hate filled raps over it.

  • hate filled? haha

    u r hate filled son

    serious

    love these vids

  • good shit man, good shit.

  • Isn't Theme from the Planets used in So Fresh, So Clean by Outkast?

  • 10 is my childhood favorite

  • correct me if im wrong the song at 6:15 sounds like nwa 2 hard motherfuckers...YO ..WE'RE 2 HARD MOTHERFUCKERS,!!!

  • hahaha

give this guy his own show ;)

BTW i think u missed the the most scratched FRE FRE ERF "FRESH" sample ever ;)

  • delegation- oh honey used by UMC's Blue Cheese.

  • I think that if you are a producer, you need to really love music from many different times. I never even knew there were funk bands from Palm Beach! But back to my point. By listening to music and loving it, you become a better producer even if you never ever sample one record, you will be infected with the funk. The way the beats are layed will come out in your tracks. Don't just use samples as a crutch, but learn to love what you sample, and you will add a demension to your style...

  • HAHAHAHA, I've never laughed so hard from a YouTube video, and that's saying a lot!!! 6:36 - 7:02

  • by the way i love your shirt... John Lennon is my hero

  • number 5 also has the beginning drum role from"bitcjes aint s*** on th chronic album

  • Coolio sampled Oh Honey too.

  • Didn't LL use Don't Change ur Love for Chill Eat Em Up L?

  • at 6:41 I was actually thinking you were starting to get a real asthma attack....LOL

  • How long have you been doing this type of thing. I feel like it would take a lifetime to get to be as knoledgable as you are.

  • I believe the intro to the Trouble Funk track is used in the intro to Dr. Dre's "Bitches Ain't Shit" too

  • Some of these songs in this serious I've already known about, but it's still entertaining the way you are educating people with this, and turning people on to some KILLER FUNK...Man were we born in a great time to be able to share and discover stuff like this instead of having to go digging through thousands of records (though there is something to be said about that too). Keep it up man. Making work go by so much better...FUNKIN A BABY!

  • Ohhh!

At about 3:29 in the video. Right after you say "Just keep 'em goin' day after day." the beat hits and the little 'beep beeooo' noise that ya hear at the same time is used by UMCs for that BLUE CHEESE song.

I was listenin' to it in the car on my way to work today. Insane.

  • Hell yeah!

  • @funktuall

Okay funktuall it's been 13 episodes now and you haven't done any George Clinton, Rick James, Cameo, Queen, Kraftwerk, Draft punk, Stevie Wonder and so on. I do like what you're doing though. Once you figured out there were gonna be more episodes You needed to throw George Clinton in there earlier because James Brown and the JPs were kinda easy ones if you were trying to stay away from the easy ones.

  • @funktuall

    6:45 - 7:04 Sampled By me

  • lol...I was like wait! - but u took care of it my man...

  • "Blue Cheese" - props to krakkajackson

    Here's one for ya...

THOSE SHOES by The Eagles = HIGH PLAINS DRIFTER by the Beasties

  • god bless music!!!!!!

  • The beginning of that 5th sample was used by Dr.Dre in "Bitches aint shit"

  • you ended the Herman Kelly too soon! Missed the best part of the track. lol

And it's Dexter WANSel, with a "w".... in case no one else caught that yet.

otherwise, love the videos and the passion for the music! Keep it up.

  • isn't that first song also from Tom Browne - Thighs High ?

  • Delegation : Oh Honey also sampled by Southland Gangsters : When I Get Lost LSD : Ese Ride Arduz : Think Bout Ya Cali Life Style : Lost Casual (1503) : Love Is Crazy Mister One & Doll E Girl : Oh Honey Royal-T : Oh Honey Ms. Krazie : Oh Honey (Dont Trip) Lil Blacky & Slow Pain : Oh Honey Eastside Valleros : When I get lost
  • do you know what song they sampled for like the actual beat for tribe called quest jazz (we've got)

  • Search "Green Dolphin Street". You'll hear it almost IMMEDIATELY.

  • I don't know which tune came out first, but no one has said anything about the Tom Browne spund up sample of Funkin' for Jamaica & Thighs High that is used in Wikka Wrap

  • sounda like Dr Dre sampled or replayed that drum fill from Trouble Funk too for Bitches Ain't Shit

  • Damm ! Thanks for turning me onto " the Wikka Wrap " . That shit is tight !

  • You had a FUNKGASM HAHA!

  • Man that piano from "Theme From the Planets" will do that to you. Listenin to that song makes me feel good, like i just smoked that good shit.

south side jamaica queens! holla at ya boy.

  • Mmm, "Oh Honey" kind of sounds like "Float On"

    by The Floaters.

Also "Dance To The Summer Beat" was sampled by The 2 Live Crew on their song "Throw That D"

Again keep up the good work & peace.

  • WOOO Yeh UK!!!!!

  • And they used the Herman Kelly sample on Trina's "Pull Over Remix"

  • Total also sampled "Oh Honey" on the "Kissin' You Remix" and I'm glad to see someone else who likes Freda Payne almost as much as me.

  • Great funk! Great soul!

  • safe man i loved it

  • This collection is great. I want them all. Quality!

  • You're awesome dude.

  • First I want to say that it is refreshing to see a person with so much knowldge of music not try to act "Hard" or play the typical "Im a snobby DJ" role. Your enthuisithm is contagious to say the least. I get excited, amped and jump around in a simular fasion when I stumble across an obscure sample. Keep up the good work homies.

  • Hi, great stuff as usual but a small typo crept in... it's Dexter Wansel

  • Thank You, yes it is.

  • Damn, my man funktuall, you got me up on some new ish with Dexter Mansel!! That cut was sick, I was right there with you!

And you finally answered a long standing search on that Delegation cut. I racked my mind trying to figure who did it......

  • On the Delegation cut the UMC's (if you remember them) made "Blue Cheese" off of a snippet of what you played in the video. If anyone remembers the UMC's like I do then you are a TRUE hiphop head!

  • funktuall done did it again....plz never stop

  • Funktuall you are my man 50 Grand!!!!!!

  • Didn't Monie Love use Runaway (I Wouldn't Change a Thing) - Coke Escovedo for "Monie In The Middle also.

  • Oh hell yeah. For a more complete list you gotta hit the link.

  • Yup!

Dance to the Drummer's Beat - Herman Kelly & Life was used for Body N Soul's track with the same name. Remember Dee Barnes and Dr Dre?

  • Dude, was that Tommy Roe "Dizzy" at 9:17?? ROFLMAO!!!

  • You caught that? Haha. Yeah that was gonna be #10 but I changed it last minute. That's great that you picked it up although I suppose anyone who knows their shit knows that break too. Peace!

  • I was in the U.K. from '81 to '83 and I remember sweating my ASS off to The Wikka Wrap when we'd party in London. Back then it was probably the illist song of it's kind since Grandmaster's Wheels of Steel.

  • funky as usual

  • Gangster Boogie was also used on LL Cool J's "Mama Said Knock You Out"

  • Great usage.

  • ya thats where i remember it from
