@woodbinedrinker Exactly what I was thinking! Entitled creep gets volunteers to work for free building his palace! I did not know the U.S.A. has serfs available for the rich and spoiled to take advantage of.
@mymomby In the US there are plenty of students who volunteer to help in the construction of homes in return for college credit, volunteer hours to put on their resumes, charity work or even just for the experience.
Habitat For Humanity is one example.
Those with green and eco friendly majors or those who are seeking specialized experience however are more likely to take up work for straw bale, cob or earthbag homes for the experience and knowledge gained.
@mymomby It is the accepted and common way for people to educate themselves about straw bale building!!! Educate yourselves before posting idiotic statements!
@woodbinedrinker Actually, no. The experience they get from doing it first hand helps them in building their own homes and having people pay them for their newly-learned skill. A lot of people volunteer in order to get hands on experience. I would volunteer, no matter how rich or poor the person was.
@woodbinedrinker She is not overweight for a woman her age and the guy is the architect, which you would know if you had listened. This is a large home, that's true, with 4 bedrooms but it is not a mansion. It is people like these, who do have money but are interested in sustainability and such things that can pay the money to develop technologies. As they develop, they become cheaper for "the rest of us." Don't let your jealousy make you petty.
this is all hokey, these 2 people are dweebs, they did well to build a well insulated house, but it's just as wasteful as any home until a large family can move into this large house-------- wasteful punk brats.
I'm bulding a home for a family of 5. give me 5 stars.
@IronHorsez88 Your a 27 year old man and are still referring to others using terms like "dweeb" and "punk brats" (to people much older than you too)?! Grow up and have a little respect! Oh, and you have no videos that you have uploaded yet about the house you claim to be building.
Ms Kitty, I am actually older than what my page says, but I never put proper information down on the internet!! At least I don't admit to liking 90's alternative music. Criminy! The thing is there are people in this world and this country that have been unemployed for months through no fault of thier own starving, needing to move, etc. While a select few with money to burn waste thier existence on themselves with no thought for others. SAD.
@IronHorsez88 First of all I'm a Mr. not a Ms. Secondly, they clearly state in the video that hay bale construction is cheaper than conventional home construction and makes use of locally produced materials, driving the cost even lower. Homes like this, properly planned, are anything but wasteful.
Respond to this if you like, but I am through with this discussion.
Thanks for allowing me to reply. I apologize about the mixup. The Hood river is an awesome place. Been there, and would like to return. Much better than where I am now. Also just want to let you know that God is easier to find than you might think, but nothing is accomplished by not trying. As far as my first post- to me spending money on yourself beyond your needs is ungodly. We need more caring people in this world. It's maddening
very beautiful house, i am hoping to build a straw bale house myself, and i really like the style in which this house has been done. it doesnt have the rough finish some straw bale constructions has. its still looks earthy and real, but also elegant. fantastic work!!
First sentence. "I was visiting my family in South Africa."
Right of the bat I knew this white bitch was the Devil. Greedy selfish white people gobbling up every stitch of land there is.
White man is the Devil. Game Over.

I don't like all the wood skeleton, it's not natural enough. Kind of like camping in a trailer, if that makes sense?

What a beautiful home! We must all build smarter like this! The results are amazing, and it must be incredibly thermally efficient.
I love it! Well done!
