this is such a great & true message & I totally agree with someone elses response about her, she doesn't have to be be half naked to have to be seen & heard!
I will never forget when I first met Kirsty, a mother who literally gave her life for her son, at PJ Carney's on 57th Street and 7th Ave thanks to Joe Buckley. She was with her husband, Steve Lillywhite, and we partied into the night. We even went to a friends' (Raymond Larre) French restaurant, Larre II Cafe on 7th Ave., so she could put in a tape so we could help her on her Spanish accent. A wonderful woman with a great heart and a ton of talent. May God hold you in the palm of his hand Kirsty
To David Limond :- Your post should not warrant a response but here goes:- In this age of the blog isn`t it wonderful how people like you hide behind your monitor and espouse hateful and derrogatory language in the knowledge that there will be no repercussion for you. You my hateful friend are a coward and a bottom dweller. Have fun with your masteraboratory interactive life cos the only "friends" you have will never meet you. Rest in peace Kirsty..one of my favourite people!
@KennBurch you are a dumb arse of course, bnp is not about white supremacy, like most you are uneducated and have your head in the sand,. if that was the case and i was a bnp voter i have alot of black disco, but you are obviously an idiot. so britain suddenly has 1 million nazi voters , weird why it keeps getting higher and why they are the 4th biggest party and grow everyday, but like most you choose to not read and just listen to your own uneducated thoughts& dont read or listen/ anything
Shame about the miming. I expected more from Kirsty but I guess everyone was miming so she went with the flow. A lovely song from a much loved and missed singer. Her cover of the Billy Brag track 'New England' is also worth a listen to. Also 'They don't know about us' is better than the Tracey Ullman cover (even though the later was released first).
First of all....Kirsty's version was released first. Years before in fact. When released there was a mail strike in the UK so the 45's never made it to the stores. And although on the airplay chart it was number 3.
and secondly, who didnt mime on Top of the Pops? thats how the show was. thats how the producers wanted it. even kate bush, queen and other great singers mimed.
Thing is....you just KNOW that if you'd met her you'd have been friends...That's what my friends and I keep coming back to. Yep, the voice, the humour all that but, well, somehow...she seemed like one of your mates.

Fantastic song. Very innovative for it's time the way it mixed Alternative Rock, Club Beats and Hip-Hop. A good few years before acts like Luscious Jackson and Beck would specialize in that sound. Kirsty was a genius. BTW does anyone know who the rapper on the song is ?
Here's some trivia--the guitar player in this clip is Elliot Randall who played the famous guitar solo on Steely Dan's "Reeling in the years" (among many other accomplishments)
This was neat to watch. 1991...the year I fell in love the first time. I saw the promo video for this song and fell for Kirsty as well. She always reminded me of my first love, and her voice was super-stellar. Even though I didn't know her personally, I cried the day she died. I always wanted to meet her.
I've been search for this song for the longest time. I saw it once on MTV when I was stationed in Japan and it was the first time I heard R+B mixed with something else. The music is beautiful. It's a first of it's kind. I wished she made more music like this.
Spud can't believe that this actually made it youtube. "Electric Landlady" is a sweet album. Fans of Kirsty should check out her classic done with Saint Shane McGowan and the Pogues called "Fairytale of New York"
Have been searching for this for ages! Brings me right back to 1991. Nice one - Thanks for the memory! Good ol' Kirsty...Pity she was taken so soon from this life..RIP.
Which version is this?

The Tracy Ullman cover of 'They Don't Know' was a joke. Tracy couldnt hit the high notes, so they left Kirsty's voice in.

Fuck off you dolphin loving carrot cake eating tree hugging freak. We all know who the enemy is sonny. Run along.

Apparently, from your standpoint, the enemy is REALITY.
It's a rainbow world. It always will be.
Trying to make Europe, the UK and North America become forcibly whiter won't help any working people in those countries at all.

Great song ruined by the uppity apes behind.
northkent61 2 years ago
"uppity APES"? Did you really post that?
Kirsty MacColl lived and died a committed opponent of racism. You totally don't get her music if you're a white supremacist.
You don't have to STAY a white supremacist, though.
You can always listen to the truth.
The enemy isn't other races. The enemy is greed. The enemy is the rich. The enemy is THE MAN.
Fight the REAL enemy. That's what KIrsty would want people who heard her music to do.

You're the only "ape's behind" that any of the rest of us see in this thread.
The Klan lost. The BNP will lose. The days of white dominance are gone and the days of a better world are coming.
You could have a nice life if you got clean from the hate, mate.
