  • very cool video

  • awww that could of been my breakfast

  • DAMN NATURE you truely fascinatin.

  • Haha good =P flies are annoying

  • how long before the fly dies? and what happens? does the plant really eats it?

  • @ganthonyvr super old comment i know, but the plant releases one chemical to kill it in about 30 mins, then it takes roughly 10 days for digestion. it then opens back up, spits out the corpse and prepares for the next meal. on average the leaves eat about 4 or 5 times (in my experience) before they brown and are replaced

  • @DAILL2DEF gee thanx alot i was really wondering would happen to the fly. is that plant harmful to humans? are there any bigger ones? i saw this plants at walmart only once and never again, the cup where they had them was covered with a plastic top and there was lots of humidity in it looks like they come from either rain forests or from very humid enviroments i dont know i might be wrong. thanx man

  • @ganthonyvr yea the top is for the humidity. i threw it away long time ago & haven't looked back. main thing is as long as you provide it lots of sun, lots of water and a reasonably stable environment, they do well. mines ran $5.99 and the crickets from the pet store are plentiful at $.11. it's currently been working on a huge cricket for 2 days or so now, but it's still an instant conversation piece

  • @DAILL2DEF can u buy this anywhere on the internet? do u know?

  • @ganthonyvr yea bugbitingplants(.)com and flytrapfarm(.)com for sure. there's others though

  • @DAILL2DEF no shit!! thanks man i will chk it out right now!

  • NOMNOMNOMNOMNOMNom!

  • I like when the fly rubs its hands togather, that means hes EATIN GOOD!

  • pwned.

  • thats a big fly

  • 0:40-0:45 likes... Hey, WTF, AAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHH

  • after a while the fly was just like: "Fuck this, it was bound to happen someday"

  • What happens then? I didnt see any place inside that plants mouth where the fly can get digested...

  • That's amazing :) thanks for sharing :)

  • Feed me!

  • ive always wondered.... what happens to the bug? i mean plants dont have a digestive system but then does the bug just rot?

  • @FishboiFishboi

venus fly traps do produce something like salivate or stomach acid which decomposes parts of the fly so the plant can take its nutrients.

but you're right it doesn't really eat the fly, the rest, e.g. the quinine parts, is left over and washed away by rain or wind when the trap opens again.

  • @jostein219 wow i didnt know that. thanks

  • yo no se, esa mosca se lo busco, bastante tiempo le dio para que se fuiera, ahora que ta encerra es q va a volar, jajajaja

  • i sat here for about 20 seconds like this 0.0

    anti-climactic?

  • need for the summer when all the fly are out

  • plant discovered in the Philippines eats rats

  • ok so that is pretty much the coolest thing i've ever seen lol

  • helll yea mine is called larry hes got three of them already

  • Owned.

  • lol, i wish i have one like that, i hate those damn bugs at house.

  • what if the fly just shited in its mouth and flew away then the plant would be eating its shit hahahaha

  • The plant needs for its prey to be alive, to ensure the hairs continue to be triggered so that the trap is closed tightly and the digestive enzymes are activated. If you just trigger the hairs yourself with a pencil, or drop an insect in that isn't alive, the trap will open again quite soon.

  • only if the shit hit one of the hairs inside of the plant to make it fold up.

  • YES!

  • How does it swallow it? :O

  • It doesn't.

  • ok, this is to explain how it works.

there are small hairs on the "skin" of the plant "mouth". if more then 2 or more hairs are tutched, it triggers, this is so it doesn't use more energy then it gains. so lets say a small ant comes along, it has about 1 colerie and it takes probubly 3calories to close the trap, while a house fly has like 5 calories and it gains 2.

  • they got liek a little triggers inside, once u touch them, it closes.

  • this plants can smelting victim ,after opening 1week ?

  • rofl

  • LOL the one plant a vegetarian will not own..oh the irony!XDDD

  • I'm a vegetarian and I have one! :D

  • because you need to be a vegetarian to own a pet plant? or are you special because you're a vegetarian who happens to have a plant that eats insects -.-.

  • no?! did i say anything like that?

  • i just "answered" mmecharlotte comment.

  • strange that a creature like this without a hart and brains can do this. i think its a sort of a reflex. it closes if the plant comes in touch with something warm like a fly. i liked those things:D

  • it doesnt feel things warm, they have trigger hairs at each sides of their modified leaves so that they closes when the hairs are moved, and digests th insect with its juices, leaving th exoskeleton in the leave when it opens

  • That thing is evil... is it a reflex? Or did it went crazy or was it hungry and eated it up?

I would love to have those bastards at home, but I don't think there's plants like this in Sweden.

  • Hi, if you like you can feed the plant. If not, the plant catch the flys by its own -if flys in the room. To feed the plant with living flys is more funny. The plant takes only living flys

  • @simon1210muc i grow mine outside. it caught a wasp yesterday! thats why they are so good for outdoor not indoors. plus, you can just leave them out all winter and they come back in the spring

  • @simon1210muc what happpenes when it catches it?

  • 1 question must you "feed" the plant or can it catch lots of fly's because i'm going to buy one

  • get a pitcher plant they can catch flies more efficently

  • They just dont look as cool when they eat :)

  • awesome! though it's kinda sad how the plant closes its "mouth" more and more and the fly stops moving

  • a carnivor plant?

  • that was really fast for a fly trap youve been looking after it good

  • that is not fas all fly traps go that fast

  • Good...I hate flys, they're fucking annoying.

  • theyre meant to be. Its their special gift

  • did you ever put your finger in the trap and see what happens lol

  • lol!

  • thats crazy, good video man

  • thats so scary!

  • Lol you can just read the Fly's mind as the trap shuts. "WTF?!"

  • worthwhile

  • a classic!
