It cost 14 billion to count the people, perhaps that money would be better spent in tax refunds or help for the needy. In addition, with the internet and current government data, a more accurate count could be taken at little to no cost,,,,using DMV, IRS, voter registration, school registrations, etc....A survey in the mail like the current census cannot be accurate. Give it some thought.

@trainmaster1226 you're so absolutely wrong. There are literally millions of people in this country without a drivers license, that don't file income tax (too little or no income), that aren't registered to vote (only 56.8% of those eligible voted in 2008) etc. etc.

A survey in the mail and use of modern statistical techniques is the most accurate way to take a census. It's also backed up by live interviews for those residences that don't return their census form.

But I left the questions blank about race because I do not want to be discriminated against because of my race.

I'm an individual, and that's why I have rights, not because of my race.

I also didn't fill out the question about home ownership. This is a private matter, and I don't trust the govt with such info. There is only constitutional authorization to count the people, not to inquire about their races or whether they own their own homes.

Don't be so paranoid. I worked for the census and I know that they do not share their information with any other branch of the government. It's actually a very useful piece of information regarding the 'self-defined' racial profile of the U.S. Don't you think it's interesting? Justa count of how many people are born here, have moved here legally.

that information they already have in birth records and death records and legal immigration statistics.

The mailers are no longer needed, nor going door to door.

but to put who lives where and where they are from ect... is not a head count of any kind.
