  • laugh and the world laughs with you weep and you'l weep alone- old boy

  • That awkward moment when you look behind you and realize none of your friends are standing anymore. o_O

  • he did all of that with a knife in his back...

  • Freeman8201 - no disrespect, but you clearly missed the point of the film and DIDN'T understand the ending.. The whole point of the film is that REVENGE DOESN'T WORK... It's why the guy tops himself in the lift, it's beautiful romantic and brilliant.. The hypnotist in the end was not "in on it" as you say, he voluntarily goes to her to see if he can eradicate the memory of fucking his own daughter...! The beauty of the end of the film is that when he smiles, you don't (and never will) know, if

  • no hard feelings but this looks so funny and fake :p

    lol

  • 15 people didn't make it out of that hall way.

  • Min-sik Choi is ex-special forces. Back in the day when he was in the military, you can bet he got the shit kicked out of him for real. A real life badass.

  • he beat the shit out of them with a hammer.. that man is my HERO!!

  • I never did undstand the ending. Ok so that hypnotist was in on it too? As they, the father and daughter, meet up again and apparently are unaware of each other.

Well, I guess I understand the ending then.

  • wow whats he on

  • this is an emotional fight .....

  • @the1mightygod

Yeah... he cried while throwing punches like a girl.....

    No.

  • i was watching this while listening to gza shadow boxing went well together

  • I love it when Asian movies like this have magnificent fight scenes! I just saw a great Kung Fu film that came out on demand called “Films of Fury” and it really blew me away with its great action sequences and movie clips! bitly .com/uBGPir

  • Don't fuck with hobos.

  • not many movies make me feel the way this movie did. i couldn't imagine loosing years of my life. then fighting my way to find the truth

  • bigdumbface is a faggot

  • Haha, he just pulls out the knife in his back at the end and still standing, Like a Boss

    c(=

  • ya know... i don't even need to know what happened in the elevator...

  • What a bro. Taking on an entire gang.

  • To all the people bitching about the intro before the scene begins: fuck off, and grow an attention span. I'm giving credit where the credit is deserved. You want a big payoff right away, go watch internet porn... or a Michael Bay movie. I'm just grateful "whomever" let me keep this clip up, let me keep it up and share it with you!

  • @booty1983 No big deal. Just skip the intro. Easy as that.

  • @booty1983 screw you and your intro

  • @booty1983 Right on man.

  • This would be a great clip if it wasn't for the 30 second intro

  • atleast this was more realistic than the ordinary chinese fight films. For example no strings attached and no flying lol

  • BOOM

    Hammer Time!!!

  • Anyone know where I can find a making of this?

  • Was the western release of this film heavily cut? I mean SO cut, that there is hardly any violence whatsoever? I mean, all I could remember being SLIGHTLY violent was near the end, when Oldboy stabs that big bodyguard type bloke with a pen or whatever it is, and even then, there wasn't really any blood. It was the same with Lady Vengeance. People said it was one of the most violent films ever made, when in fact there was practically NO violence in the WHOLE FILM!

  • @ncshuriken

Now, a film that I remember which WAS as violent as people made it out to be, was Battle Royale, one of the greatest movies ever to come out of Japan, China OR Korea. Not because of the violence (Im not a sicko), but because of the idea itself, the scenario was brilliant. If anybody in the west tried to make a film like BR in those days, it would've been absolutely rubbish. The Japanese/Chinese and probably the Koreans were FAR braver with their movies than the west in those days

  • @ncshuriken

Oh yea, and Ichi the Killer (live action version) was JUST as violent as they said it was. Stylish violence is great, however, sadistic Saw/Hostel style "Snuff Film" torture fetish violence is something I just cant deal with. Theres no style to it, no flow or art, just pure sadistic pain which some people derive their "jollies" from LOL. I think I'm gonna watch Oldboy again, and maybe ladie vengeance, maybe I was too stoned to notice any ultra-violence, a'la Shogun Assassins.

  • 2:17 that was a good touch, tripping on the stick, and so is the knife in his back. I like little nuances like that. Things you wouldn't normally pick up on. Theres other films with touches that really work well. I cant remember the film, but a scene where a guy was talking, and he tripped on his tongue while trying to say something, like a REAL mistake. Why has nobody else ever done this in films? Its like writers just asume people always talk flawlessly as if reading a well rehearsed script

  • Shit man this scene is pretty fucking good. Almost makes me wanna go outside and get revenge on a shitload of people in a corridor with dirty walls. Especially the part where he starts jabbing people in the face, then that fat cunt takes his shirt off then gets knocked the fuck out. Its visceral man, this kind of fight scene doesn't need blood. Oriental cinema (particularly Japanese), FUCKED up and WRONG, but in ALL the right ways HAHAHA,

  • The first time i saw this movie it was awesome then when i found out that the girl was his daughter that was gross disgusting i mean really his daughter nasty.

  • #winning

  • When you reach max level... this happens.

  • Now i see where Repo men got influence for their last fight scene.

  • This is now my most favorite fuckin movie

  • what a G.

    his hairs awsome too

  • This is how it would look like if Jackie Chan would fight without choreography.

  • He's gonna b like that old lady that walked around with a knife in her back for a few months.

  • Was that a knife in his back!?!?!?!?!

  • @MrMarioio this guy is too badass to know there's a knife on his back

  • Yeah I just heard from (IGN-Keepin it Reel podcast) that Steven Spillburg & Will Smith are out and Spike Lee & Clive Owens are in to make the American version of OldBoy.

  • @tonkaaaaa Oh dear, I hope It wont be Clive Owen. I could not bare to watch him get utterly destroyed.

  • @tonkaaaaa, i don't buy that, because spike lee is not able to write and or direct movement-pieces like this. the idea is just too silly and not very lee at all.

  • Spike Lee doing a version of the manga?

  • The fact that the whole fightscene is captured in 1 shot makes it even more epic.

I hope Hollywood never touch this piece of art and remake it into a piece of crap they always do.

  • Damn, I need to get me a hammer.

  • OH MY GOD PULL THE FUCKING KNIFE OUT OF YOUR BACK ALREADY

  • @ibignose youre supposed to leave knives in

  • This movie is based on the Japanese manga by Nobuaki Minegishi and Garon Tsuchiya! Give them some credits at least!!!

  • it's good but not better than tony jaa in the protector when he fights 70 guys an breaks there bones

  • @MultiMuchacho are you serious? that fight was FAKE. in ALL of Jaa's movies, its always the same the bad guys attack one at a time and they punch HELLA slow. you can see that Jaa moves into a counter move before the punch is even fully struck. He tries to hard to copy other martial artist AND then tries to one up them. this fight is about as real as a lot get

  • definition of epic!

  • "Wait a second mate, I just need to take my shirt off before I fight this guy"

  • if thats meant to be a good fight scene then i am a tomatoe

  • The mother of all fights.....

  • the derictor said that it took 17 days to create this badassness of this fight scene

  • aha you dick

AB is universal recipient, not universal donner.

Unless he checked his blood and knows its AB, even then he should ask for 0.

  • What is great in this fight scene is that this one is not like other ones.

Every bad guy waits for his turn to get ass-kicked in other movies:D

  • amazing

  • Best fight scene ever!!!

  • pure genius

  • Watched this last night and holy crap it's incredible! This scene is intense, but the true winning point was the explanation for what was going on. Several times I thought there would be no payoff, but I was wrong. The climax in this is as (if not more) shocking than the ending of The Mist, except this is actually an amazing movie the whole way through!

  • Most intensive fight scene ive ever seen......

  • Epic.

  • Yeah, the acting is pretty bad, most of thoses guy don't know what to do,some don't even come back after being pushed back, but hey,it's still pretty awesome.

  • @razgaros they didnt counter-attack cuz they was scared nigga

  • I love this scene because unlike all those over the top fight scenes where everyones a ninja this is just brute force and secondly because the whole movie you see oh du sae getting beaten bullied and abused and you watch him go from a flabby everymans victim to being this vengefull warrior and this scene is just the cullmination of all of that anger he's festered

  • fighting with knife on his back.... cool...

  • What the fuck is that shit suppose to be? Another genius beating 30 guys alone... I feel sick watching this bullshit. And, after all, why there's so many logos first? This video is totally fucked up.

  • I watched this so many times and the small mistakes they made in this is pretty funny. Sometimes Dae Su gets hit and reacts a tad too slowly.. When Dae Su charges forward with the body of one guy, its funny how the whole stack of people get pushed back, not to mention nobody attacks Dae Su from behind during this. And the acting of the extras.. So terrible! One guy charges forward to punch Dae Su but slips on the ground.. And the fat guy at the end clearly didn't know what he was doing.. lol

  • @futsalfred2 wtf move where you watching? they attack him from behind you dumbass. also people slip in fights and the fat guy didnt know what he was doing because he was scared shitless and the adrenaline rush was probably getting to him. you would probably know that if youve ever been in a fight rather then sit on youtube makeing fun of fight scenes in movies because your "such an expert on it".

  • @fox21231 Ive been in at least seven 'real fights' outside of a martial arts training house. People don't recoil in pain one second after they've been hit. People don't throw an uppercut three metres away from the guy they're trying to hit and slip on their ass. Even if i'm not an expert any normal person who scrutinised this fight scene several times can see a lot of BAD ACTING.

  • this is like my everyday life, no big deal

  • @longview1987 lol

  • beautifull ; ))

  • OK, I was impressed.

  • Definitely one of the best fight scenes ever put on film. And what I love about it is, it's not flashy with a bunch of cool camera angles, there are no fast stunts, like flipping and spinning kicks. It's just raw force. Goes to show that you don't need to make a fight scene flashy for it to be epic. When I first saw this scene the only thought that went through my mind is "my God, Dae-su's a f**king animal!"

  • that's what you get messing with a guy that punched day in day out for fifteen years:D

  • Damn, the asian film biz sure knows how to make good movies nowadays.

  • Someone get a fucking gun

  • @GodRMK Sure woulda made that fight scene a lot quicker...

  • @GodRMK lmao

  • jesus fuck shit was he fighting with a knife sticking out of his back?

  • fucking badass

  • either he's high, drunk or iron man.

  • To think! This was just one long, continous shot! Epic...

  • This is my second favourite fight scene of all time. #1 is the Tom Yum Goong fight scene where he breaks all those fuckers bones. That was awesome.

  • oh dae su is a beast!

  • how the fuck did they choreograph this...

  • God, can someone please put this beastly film online. I've watched it many times, wish it were easier to access.

  • old boy is tha shit

  • I love how EVERYONE gets up, instead of taking one hit and going down for the count like most unrealistic movies.

  • anyone know the song for this part in the movie

  • @jdeisma1 Jo Yeong-wook : The Old Boy.

Jo Yeong-wook did the whole soundtrack for the movie. The name of that particular track is 'The Old Boy'. My favorite tracks are still 'Out of the Past' and 'Look Who's Talking'.

  • That was pretty badass! I like how realistic it is, usually when it's one guy against a bunch it becomes an "as if" fight.

  • the logo is too much for what?

  • It's a great scene, but pretty unrealistic. Most of these guys don't even really try to fight back, an then go down after one punch.

  • The fight scene on it's own is just good. Together with the character and the story it's damn near perfect

  • well maybe not realistic in the sense that he would be killed. but it is damn cool.

  • most realistic fight scene period...

  • i dont know about that one

  • epic

  • 02:53 he torn his ankle... cunt!

  • @diegolmedo No he falls down for no reson... again, and he didn't even look like he was trying to hit him but rather did some bad "shadow boxing" in witch he fell. I mean it looks stupid if you watch it close enough... cunt.

  • He fell doing a huge retarded uppercut which compromised his balance. Makes sense to me.

  • They sure don't make pieces of wood like they used to...

  • @Zzinged seriously, whatever happened to good old fashion baseball bats?

  • @Zzinged hilarious.

  • Great stuff....AND he got his friggin hammer back!......One of the best fight scenes in movie history.

  • Thats the closest thing too ever see chuck norris in action and live to tell about it

  • i like the fact that the twist was never he just screwed his own daughter but rather that it was never his revenge, really clever.

  • Just watched it again for the 15th time, probably. In my opinion this is the best scrolling scene ever in a movie.

  • What makes this scene so great is the music. It really brings out Dae-Su's feeling of anger and desperation.

  • Went to the cinema to see this back in the day. Blew my effin socks off. Still one of the best films I've ever seen.

  • that was just pure genius. definitely deserves to be in top 2 best fight scenes of all time. The best has to be when he just blows up that train station like literally out of nowhere

  • Definitely one of the finest fight scenes in cinematic history. It's gritty, dirty, grimy, and beautifully REAL.

  • i wanna see what happened when he went into the elevator!

  • @TheMickMcG zuahha yes :D

  • He wins.......he always wins haha.

  • What happened in that elevator is too badass for anyone to see

  • Stop! Hammer Time!

  • with the knife

    in the back :))

  • Reminds me of a Korean Gary Oldman.

  • @alfrank2000 HAHAHA wow that was right on the money!

If I could pick any one for a remake of this movie it would be Gary Oldman

  • id do anything to see what happens in that elevator.

  • excellent fight scene

  • Definitely the best fight scene I've ever seen. One of the best movies I've ever seen.

  • I love this scene.

  • youtube videos don't need 3 intros.

  • The elevator bit=comdey!

  • i love everything about this movie

    great 10/5

  • It's works because he's not fighting flashy, but he is efficient, and just so beastally brutal you think it could work.

And because everything you've seen of him so far makes you believe he really could summon the strength and rage to do this.

  • need to film an epic fight scene? leave it to the koreans.

    5/5 holy fuck

  • My dick is now hard.

  • not one of the best. the best!

  • looks tight really cool nasty!

  • This is an incredible fight sequence. It's rare when a movie makes one man beating 30 look realistic. I was blown away when I first saw this scene. Absolutely incredible one-take fight coreography.

  • well said....I was blown away when I saw this scene the fist time

  • i know rite, evrything was well coreographed and the spfx sounds sound so REAL

  • I have to agree with this one hundred muthafuckin percent. It's simply amazing the way Park Chan-wook can film one man taking on a small army and actually make it look realistic, without coming across as over the top or silly.

    God I love this movie.

  • i can see why it took 17 takes to get just right haha Amazing Like...xX

  • there is a part missing where Dae-Su hits guys with a hammer on the foot

  • 1:45

  • indeed, the best fight scene so far.

  • I LOVE THIS MOVIE!!!!

    :]

  • Best fight scene ever without question. Bar none.

  • Nope, this is the best fight scene.

  • as epic as that fight is, i would have love to have seen him fight in the elevator.

  • Hammer smashing, screams...

    Meh, it wouldn't have worked.

It was already dramatic enough, and made it's point: this is a driven man.

And elevator scene would have just plunged the movie into the "gratuitous violence" section.

  • @booty1983 i agree i think how they did the elevator scene was awesome enough without any fighting at all

  • @booty1983 very true! the part where they all just fall out of the elevator is almost comical. i love this film, its very well thought out and extremely clever, the plot. im gonna go look up 'a bittersweet life' now :D

  • Sometimes it's what you don't see that's most effective

  • @suchagangsta

This is a man who has no other goal in life than revenge, because that was all he had left. The scene in the hallway is raw, disturbing and full of soul because of it. The little stream of blood down his neck after he is through and the look in his eyes as the elevator opens. No one can stop him.

Then a calming PING sound as the doors open in the next scene. This breaks the tention a little bit. This is perfect as said before, adding that fight would've served no purpose. Epic.

    .

  • not only one ot the best fight scenes, but one of the most powerful, gut-wrenching films ever.

  • Oh Dae-Su doesnt fight much but when he does this is the result.

  • Great movie -best fight scene ever.

  • i liked the first bit of the movie, then the rest got to confusing,

  • ishi the killer?

  • You mean icthy the killer. It's not though, it's OLDBOY

  • lol! It's "Ichi The Killer". Lol! I have that movie too. "Oldboy" was better, more story driven, and coherent.. More or less. Let's just say Takashi Miike (Director of "Ichi") doesn't form ideas well, and always rushes to the more violent, shock factor of the films he makes. To me, "Oldboy" was a masterpiece. As in: every frame, every action, had meaning, and the big parts -- well, they made me fucking cry sometimes. Not really, but I did get choked up a a lot. "Ichi" is no contest to this.

  • i agree with you totally. the vengeance trilogy is better than anything Takashi Miike has ever made. but thats just my opinion.

  • @booty1983 Yeah, Ichi was cool, but violent just to be violent. Oldboy had the violence that mixed into the story. You WANTED to see Oh Dae Su get his revenge and fuck everyone up in his way. It was beyond perfect.

  • only thing thats is fake is the knife in his back, that is a cgi knife

  • no i mean you can tell hes trying not to hit them too hard because he doesnt want to hurt them

  • Epic, just epic!

  • will smith and spielberg are now in talks to remake this movie....wtf????

  • I know, I know. Smith commented them on making it as an adaption of the comic book; not the film.

But then again, he is the one whose re-making "The Karate Kid" as a vehicle for his son, Jaden, to become a major Hollywood star.

Anyways -- that's how the Hollywood mentality works: if there's a fan base, mak
