when using an ishi stick, what type of shape of copper billet is best when working with slabs. I have just recently purchased an ishi stick and when I use it, the flakes seem to dive deep into the obsidian forming a circular rounded and thick flake, when what I want, is a long and thin flake. Could the problem be That Im not abrading enough? Or is it the shape of my billet?
Hi Mark, I bought your videos, and learned a LOT from you, met you at Fredericksburg Knap in a couple years ago and bought 1 of your pts...also bought tools from your website which are very high quality and reasonably priced! welcome to youtube buddy!
yeah! you would be surprised, most starting knappers don't know a lot of really basic stuff. when I started I had trouble figuring out if the flakes came off the bottom or top of the biface! as knappers progress they forget the really basic questions they had at the start...so this is a good thing you have posted!
Hey Mark, welcome aboard! I bought my first Ishi stick from you about 4 years ago. I still use it from time to time. However, I prefer regular pressure flakers myself.
Ok, I just ordered my second set of tools from you. Thanks for sharing. Two years now and I am still learning about flint knapping.
