  • Great job! Great climb! Nice little boy!

  • im doing this in october! im scared about the hight thing.. but thre is no way ill back out! im coming from Vancouver Canada! :) very excited!!

  • Bravo! My wife and I did this hike a few years ago and filmed it also but your vid is just tremendous and captures the thrill of the Landing. We got an early start that day and did not deal with much traffic. I do remember seeing an English rastafarian hiking it in flimsy flip flops. Anyway, the views and rush of excitement doing this hike can't be beat. Thanks for this vid!

  • do this trail. Your video is amazing, the best one amongst hundreds of zion video's. Congrats also with selecting the music (The Island). This steadycam thing is amazing, it feels like you're flying on that trail when looking at this video!

  • I was in Zion in Sept 2010... it was our first trip to the US. We rented a car for 20 days and did a tour of the southwest. I didn't know a lot about these National Parks, but we were blown away by the beauty of them. We did Yosemite, Death Valley, Zion, Bryce, Canyonlands, Arches, Monument Valley & the Grand Canyon. We had only 1 day in Zion, and only did the riverside walk. we didn't know about the Angel's Landing trail until afterwards. Now I know that we need to get back to Zion some day to

  • I seen a mother carrying her child in a baby sling wearing flip flops coming back from the first bend. I was amazed.

You captured the experience with the fam perfectly. Love the video. Enjoyed the production and editing, some great stuff. Thank you.

  • Keep the music! It made the video that you shot even more epic! Great choice in music, and the shots are amazing. I want to go Hike that trail again now!

  • Best hiking video for Angels Landing that I've seen. Great choice of music as well. Very inspirational.

  • Awesome video. I love the focus on family and nature. Nice job producting the video. r/ Joe

  • Certainly an Extremely cool hike. Not so much extreme though. If there are handrails, old men with no pack, and children at the summit, that is a give away. Cool video though. Nice family.

  • Cool hike--I want to do this someday. And a great video you made! What was the software? If you ever get to Hawaii--do the Haiku stairs. See my (poor) slideshow/video if you like.

  • TOTALY Amazing video! I Love it! I went to Zion in September this year too, we did The Narrow and High Adventure Canyoneering, one of my dreams! We continued our roadtrip later on the night and left Zion. Sad, but now i have a reason to return to Zion and do Angels landing! :)

    About your clip:

AMAZING quality! Now i have to get a 7D too i guess ;) To not make the video too mutch private I would have record more of the beautiful views and less on your family. :) That's all but gr8 video! /Jimmy

  • Hey great video. I happen to be at Zion right now , and I plan on doing Angel's Landing. But I only have sneakers. No hiking boots. Do you still recommend it?

  • @DTRAVELZ

  • @DTRAVELZ

You can do it in sneakers. I did it in sneakers and found it actually easier to do, or at least on my way up, On the way down it becomes a little bulcky (right word??), and there it was a good idea with hiking boots...

  • the footage is spectacular... this is just mindblowing.

  • This video is awesome !!!

  • Extremely impressive footage, fantastic! We did this hike last weekend and I shot some footage but was unable to capture the magnitude of the hike. This video was the perfect way to show friends what we think is a good time. You must have an extensive background in film, loved the shot composition, editing and soundtracks. I have a long way to go and enjoy watching and learning from people like you. Your family and son are lucky to have you documenting your adventures.

  • U didn't c a single mexican haha

  • 3:12 sweet.

good enough for a magazine front page.

  • Nice quality video.....I was there a few weeks ago and sorry to say, I did not have enough nerve to finish :-( I think it is a fear of height thing, not a technical hiking issue. Been hiking my entire life, Zion is great.

  • That was BEAUTIFUL and the music was perfect. Thank you for sharing. Oh and btw the baby is adorable!!!!

  • We where their the first week off september for our honeymoon. Zion is one of the reasons why we will come back to the states.

  • Awesome vid, we where there th first week of september for our honeymoon. It was impressive. We deffently will come back.

  • Theres absolutely NO chance I'm going to Angels landing. Sorry I got scared watching the video.

  • @pinsnpies I am afraid of heights too ( and I'm a helicopter pilot lol) this is the most awesome hike you'll ever do, it is AMAZING!!!

  • Absolutely one of the most moving videos I have ever seen!!! The hike was amazing as was this video!!!

  • zionisme national park, land of jews

  • Angels Landing is similar to Huayna Picchu. The last few sections are really breathtaking

  • Wow, wonderful video. How brave anyone is to do this trail. My extreme fear of heights kept me from this hike but not my 7 year old!

Loved your video and what a cute baby!

    Very national geographic !

  • We did this hike in July. It was amazing. It was pretty tiring but it was worth every bit. When you get to the top, your like "whoa". It takes your breath away. I recommend you do this hike!

  • Thanks everyone for your comments! for those wondering about what camera i used, it is the canon 7d (as listed in the description). Thanks for watching. Yes it is totally worth the trip. just amazing. I tried to show how amazing it is, but you just have to go and do it yourself as the video just doesnt do it justice!

  • @LonnyandDeanne This video is extremely well done! Thanks for posting! I've done this hike 4 times now over the years and every time it's challenging and magnificent.

  • Just hiked this today, totally worth the trip just for this hike. I'm also curious about the camera you're using.

  • I get chills everytime I watch the video.

I'll be doing the hike this summer in september. The way you caught it on tape makes me even want to do it more!

    Very good job!

  • What kind of camera did you use?

  • stoked

  • thanks for making this video. it's very inspiring.

  • the camera quality, the music, the focusing, this video gave me goosebumps!best hike i've ever done, the video does it so much justice!

  • love this. When doing this walk I stopped at the 2.08 stage of the film and turned back. But reminding me of the risk and adding such atmospheric music is a touch of true brilliance. This is real film making. Thanks for the memories

  • bye the way the video was good, i liked the change of focus element, great job

  • I absolutely love this. What a great tribute to your family as well as the beauty of Zion. I took my first trip there last month and I can't wait to go back and do this. Zion is magic. Pure and simple. Best wishes to you and your beautiful family!

  • I've watched this video so many times. Great depiction of the trail. Very epic! I'm coming here this summer and can't decide between this trail or the Hidden Canyon Trail. Advice?

  • Awesome video. I will hike Angels Landing even with my concern about being 1,000 feet in the air with only 2-3 feet of pathway

  • Awesome video man! I would like to do that hike one day. What time of the year was this?

  • Comment removed

  • When using a steady cam merlin, would one recommend turning off "is" or "vr" for stabilization?

  • im sorry i dont know, i use the merlin with the tokina 11-16 which doesnt have IS or VR

  • @LonnyandDeanne thanks for replying anyway. Yea I ended up finding out that using any stabilization on any lens would conflict with any type of "hard " stabilization (tripods, sliders, etc)

Great video btw, I hope to be back there again this summer :)

  • Mellow out the music, Simba is not being born here. Great Quality!!!

  • thx for the comment, yes a bit too epic!

  • @LonnyandDeanne I really like the music. It matches perfect. An epic journey well deserving. .

  • @LonnyandDeanne No, I love the music! It's perfect for that scenery!

  • @LonnyandDeanne The soundtrack works, leave it there! Beautiful place and great video!I was there last week and sad to say I chickened out at the last part. :( Kudos to you and your family for carrying a baby and all the camera equipment and still completing the hike!

  • @robbyzombie loli think its the avatar soundtrack

  • no its not from the avatar soundtrack, however 20 century fox did use the song on the avatar preview. The song came from "the island" soundtrack with Ewen McGregor. Great Soundtrack! I used another song from this soundtrack in my Big Sur video

  • @robbyzombie I have to respectfully disagree, I loved the music. This hike was definitely a life moment for me, and it made me want to go back as soon as I can!

  • @robbyzombie I disagree...it goes with the majestic settings that he's shooting.

  • This is an inspirational video. You did an awesome job with the filming and editing!!

  • Wow!! What a fantastic video. Amazing views, Great music, beautiful family. You did an Outstanding job of bring the viewers to Zion and making it feel like an epic adventure. Bravo!! I also make videos with my son, but you are on another level entirely. Nicely done Sir.

  • how dare you take the child on such a dangerous hike...

  • @WilliamTheSilverBack - Worry about your own kids pussy

  • @WilliamTheSilverBack what, we should keep kids at home in a protective cage and not live, she obviously did not go on the dangerous portion, dont be a scared coward BillTheYellowBack....

  • @thethrill1usa no of course not sign them up for afghanistan or a everest expedition...do whatever you wana do with your life but don't force it on others.

  • @WilliamTheSilverBack sounds to me like you are forcing your opinion on the people in the video and on me, dont be a hipocrite, and by the way BillTheYellowBack take your medication and relax or just smoke a lefty.....perhaps we should start using baby humans in place of chimps in experiments......just a thought to ponder there

  • @thethrill1usa or maybe use people such as yourself...i'm not forcing it on anyone, i'm just giving them some advice. But your correct who am i to juge you, and who are you to juge me, my morals are mine not yours. I just figured taking a newborn on one of the most dangerous hikes in america isn't a smart thing to do...you obviously think otherwise

  • Love this hike. Only did it once, though, when I worked there. Headed up at midnight and came down and sunrise. Going up was definitely easier for those of us nervous of heights. lol

  • WERE U GUYS SCARED TO CLIMB WITH UR BABY? I WANT TO BUT IM NERVOUS....I NEVER CLIMB THAT TRAIL YET... MY HUSBAND WONT LET ME...LOL

  • Incredible footage! That was really well shot and edited. You totally captured the beauty and scale that most cameras (and camera operators) can not.

  • 5*****

  • Great coverage! I just did this hike a couple of days ago. I drove 7 1/2 hours straight alone from CA. Didn't know if I'd actually do it until I got there as I'm afraid of heights, but for some reason the fear disappeared as I started up. Totally worth it!

  • @LonnyandDeanne Thank you so much for the advice I will definitely do this climb when we go. And thanks for the heads up about going early that will work out good with crowds and meeting up with my parents afterwards :)

  • Fabulous vid, my man.

  • thanks for the comments!

  • I am going to Zion National park this summer and hope I will be able to do this...none of my family will but still hope to do it with or without them...any advice if going alone?

  • @acababydoll yes i do have advice for you.... make sure you do this hike! no need to worry about doing it alone, tons of people on the hike so you'll feel safe in that way. just make sure you hold onto the chains and you will be fine. also i would plan to start heading out as early as possible. The later the start- the busier & windier it gets, which could b an issue if people are trying to come down where you are trying to go up!

  • Wow, beautiful video. We want to walk the Angels Landing Trail in September this year. In 2009 we were also in Zion, but we had to less time, so we walked the Emerald Pools-trail. Upper Emerald Pool is like paradise on Earth.

    Greetings from the Netherlands.

  • gorgeous and courageous footage. Thanks for sharing this.

  • Hoooomah gooodness. That's the cutest baby EVER! You can't shoot bad pics or video with that camera. Nice work!

  • Thanks for sharing, I hope one day I can save up for a 7D :)

Keep up the great work, its very inspiring.

  • incredible, you got guts for doing this, or eslse ur just stupid :)

  • OMG! 1:27 and 2:07. I woulda been shaking in my tracks

  • What a great filmed documentation. I have fear to conquer & want to return to Zion to tackle this one. (I'm scared I would freak out & freeze & not be able to get out of other peoples way.)

  • Did you do any stabilization in post? or is it that smooth from the steadicam?

  • thx for the comment.... no post steadicam- just the steadicam merlin

  • Looks like an incredible place, I'd love to go there someday.

  • Great video well done !

it would of been cool if the camera took flight of the side of a cliff. dunno how but that would of been cool.

  • AAAAAMAZING VIDEO........Finally a video that captures the vibe and visual of this incredible place.............thank you for sharing

  • what's the song? I really like it. I hiked this too, this past summer. It was amazingly beautiful at the top, don't you think?

  • How many people fall and die each year is my first question?

  • Ok i have to admit i have acrophobia.. but i would like to know the point till where it is safe to go with chains available. I am willing to go to this point. if there are good view with this restriction please let me know as i would then not have to waste driving up to zion

  • @chinbnm I just climbed this this past summer. You get up to a little landing, which is safe. There are rails, and it's really quite big. After that, the chains are only there parts of the time, and there is a point in which you are walking across a path about 2 feet in diameter, and it's practically a sheer cliff on both sides. However, I would still suggest visiting Zion. It is one of the most beautiful places I've ever been.

  • You've just added another entry into my bucket list! LoL! I've watched this video at least a dozen times and it makes me smile every single time. I also get a little choked up too... Incredible video and you accomplished something incredibly difficult - capturing the scale and magnitude of the landscape!! What's the artist and title of the music playing? It fits perfectly!!!

  • thanks for the comments! the music came from "the island" soundtract, the song is called "lincoln"

  • Awesome video. Movie like stuff.

At 2:26, were those scenes shot with the Tokina 11-16mm?

I am going there end of June and also have a 7D. Would you recommend any other lens that would get the same contrast as this lens?

  • yes that shot was the tokina 11-16. all the camera moving shots were the tokina and all the stationary camera shots were the 70-200.

i really like the tokina lens- although i realize now that it is limited in its use. I dont take too many ultra wide shots so i may have been better with the canon 16-35 2.8l.

let me know if u make a zions video, i would like to see it

  • Awesome video. Movie like stuff.

  • Love the video! The music is just perfect for it.

Did you guys have a tour guide? What "package/deal" did you pick? Id really like to bring my family on this trail.

Absolutely amazing (I had a smile on my face throughout the length of the video =) )

  • thanks for the nice comment! Zions National pak is awesome. you just reserve a camping spot (we took RVs) it was like 17 bucks a night. take the free shuttle up the canyon and start hiking! There are so many trails to hike we didnt have enough time to even scratch the surface! the hike is probably 3 hours up, 1 hour down. would not advise bringing kids along the last half mile- too dangerous! let me know if u have any other questions!
