  • Because of the brightness and the low graphics i couldnt see anything you did, and this is realy important to me, because i wanna add a ssd to my laptop, and i have the possibility to add a second hard drive in my sony vaio, the only problem is.... there is no second SATA CABLE !!!!...

  • I have a VGN-AR605E and it's really similar, thanks for the tip, was having some trouble remembering how I did it last time.

  • WHAT A UGLY LAPTOP' ASUS FTW¡¡¡¡

  • Its way too bright to see what screws your messing with, try using an over head light instead of what looks like is the sunlight through a window. Still i got the basics, so thanks for the help. :)

  • thanks man

  • are you able to put one of these hard drives in a PS3?

  • thanks for posting

  • Just replaced a faulty HD in my wife's Sony Vaio laptop but the drive is not being seen when I try to install XP. I've tried the drive in my dektop PC & I can see it okay is disk management, where I formatted it.

Do Sony add something to the BIOS that causes problems making hardware changes? Because the Sony support guy seemed determined to get me to send it back to them for repair ........ at a cost of around £200 apparently!!!

  • Is the laptop able to boot to the winxp disc in the cdrom drive?

  • The XP installation process starts when I insert the XP disk in the CD drive. But after all the files have been copied over I get a message saying the process can't continue because no HD can be found. Nothing wrong with the HD though because it works fine in my desktop PC.

  • you most likely need a windows xp installation disc that is capable of recognizing the sata hdd. you can use nlite to insert the sata drivers into a new burn of your windows disc.

  • The XP disk works fine with my desktop PC, which has SATA drives in it. It just goes straight on without any trouble. The Tech guy at Sony told me I could only install Vista on this laptop. How could that be the case?

  • Im running XP on this laptop right now. It did require that i insert the sata drivers specifically for this laptop installation.

  • I'm having trouble finding the SATA controller for my model. If I enter the product code & serial number on the Sony Vaio support pages a different model comes up! Most annoying. I can't find my model (PCG-7112M) on there anywhere.

  • the hds are sata laptop hds, they have gone down in prices. replacing the hds in ps3 is easy and it formats it selfs. you are not limited to sizes of hds. the bigger the better. 5400rpm and 7200rmp you can't tell the difference. Don't be afraid to play around.

  • thanks for doing this ! my Vaio AR is at the Sony Service center cause it wont load, just the Vaio boot logo happens and theirs a noise around where the hard drive is, so maybe the hard drive is fucked ? so its gonna cost me $135 so they can tell me what it is but if its the hard drive, I might aswell do it myself ! ! ! thanks

  • I have dual 500gb now in this laptop, its the easiest laptop upgrade.

  • i have the ar 590e i wanted to know what drive should i buy to replace the dual hardrive.should i buy 2 160 hard drives and swap them with the old ones?

  • you can get two of the largest you can afford. , theydo not need to be the same size.

  • ive already got the restore discs from sony so should i jus swap the drives and run the restore or what?

  • fucking retard! its 2 bright! cnt see shit... goin sumwer else

  • e.a.d.u.

  • wot?

  • hey bro how to enter to pheonix to restore the laptop to the original form i have a Vaion AR320E

  • f2 or delete on boot not sure which one.

  • thanks for the post, i removed one of my hddrives and replaced my 80g ps3 with a 200g one, i have a vaio ar 770 series

  • hey since u done ur ps3. does it fuck up anything ? cause I got an 80gb ps3 too and im thinking about upgrading it to 500GB, if u take the HDD out, and install a new one, does the ps3 load as it would normally ?

  • PS3 was working like a charm. i have since sold it on eBay...

  • Sony uses 2.5"

there is no noticable warth in my own experience.

It is worth the upgrade, as i have done it myself for the boot drive.

  • I was wondering, does sony build 2,5" or 1,8" hdd's in it?

is there any big performance difference between the 5400 and 7200 hdds?

Does the 7200 hdds getting warmer?

I was wondering if its worth to buy a 7200 hdd as replasemet for my 5400 hdd.

    thank you

  • I put a bigger hdd in a ps3 and there was no problems whatsoever. Just select format after install.
