  • The seed of Libertarianism. Thank god for Barry Goldwater, Ronald Reagan, and Ron Paul. All great men.

  • @sarcip7x ronald reagan was not a libertarian and ron paul disagreed with him

  • "You don't need to be straight to fight and die for your country. You just need to shoot straight." -Barry Goldwater

    best quote EVER

  • Do they still spit on Barry Goldwater's grave?

  • I like Barry Goldwater, but his very clear vision and principles and profound convictions were very clearly detached from his rhetorical ability.

  • Barry Goldwater 64, ron paul 12

  • The liberal tv media destroyed Barry Goldwater because the internet didn't exist. The liberal media of today cannot destroy Ron Paul. Vote Ron Paul in 2012!

  • Those who voted against Goldwater betrayed America. And we're still paying for their sins.

  • sadly, nobody remembers the runners-up

  • Goldwater was probably the last real, honest American to run for the office of the Presidency. The truth is that in 1964, you could have run Jesus Christ himself, against Lyndon Johnson, and lose...,LBJ was so wrapped up in Saint JFK, no one could have beaten him. And thanks to LBJ, we lost about 55,000 men killed in Vietnam, and probably three or four times that many wounded, or so screwed up with PTSD and STD's and drug addiction....yeah, LBJ was the man, alright. What a loss.

  • Barry Goldwater took what was so beautiful about the Republican party and crashed it to the ground

  • @bobrec3GTI Your's may be the stupidest comment on all of youtube. What was so beautiful about the GOP that he crashed? Nelson Rockefeller? Eisenhower? He developed the modern, libertarian conservative body of thought, while the establishment GOP before and after him are either spineless country club republicans or psychopathic religious idiots. Honestly, do you have any fucking brains?

  • @RGiacobbe the Republican party was an accepting, conservative spending party before. Now they spend the most liberally, giving money to corporations without any method to fix the problem like the Tarp act which failed miserably..

  • @bobrec3GTI You are correct but if you think Goldwater had anything to do with this, you do not know the facts. All you state, he was deeply opposed to. Goldwater would run as fast as he could from modern Republicans in many ways. It appears you don't know history.

  • @RGiacobbe he heavily opposed the civil rights movements of 1964! right before Martin Luther King's death.. MLK was a Republican but if it weren't for some motherfucker shooting him, he would've quickly switched to being a democrat given the Republican's sudden opposition to Civil Rights nothanks to Barry.. He dramatically changed the conservative party into the way Ronald Regan created his "trickle down" system which failed (known fact).. The Republicans like Roosevelt had trickle (up) virtues

  • @DoctorSapperstein cool... lets comment on something i wrote 3 months ago. If you wanna talk about bailouts heres a curveball for you. Obama's bailout consisted of stimulating the economy and creating jobs which has happened. While your buddy, Bush's, horrible excuse of a bailout- the Tarp Act entailed money being given to the companies who fucked over our economy in the first place like AIG, Goldman Sachs, Morgan Stanley and the list goes on? Why did these faggot companies deserve anything?

  • @bobrec3GTI

    1) It's not a curveball. It is known that spending is not a way of "stimulating economy"

    Joblessness is UP.

    2) Bush is not my "buddy" . I never once commented on Bush. Why do Obama supporters assume one supports Bush when the subject is Obama's failure?

    3) The companies don't deserve any bailouts. They deserve to fail.

A free market profit & loss system should eliminate bad business, not reward it.

that's the problem with the bailouts.

    Look up "moral hazard"

    "faggot companies" (WOW)

  • @bobrec3GTI

You mean TARP that Obama voted for?

Why do you Obama drones keep bringing up Bush?

    BO is Bush 2.0

    We all know that.

This is not a pro- Bush video in case you didn't notice.

  • @DoctorSapperstein Obama was not part of the Tarp. Just watch our deficit will be back to Clinton years, and if you know anything our deficit was $360 billion.. The Tarp was a Republican act... Obama's bailout is completely different since it involved the bailout of government programs which are solid jobs for the middle class

  • Comment removed

  • @bobrec3GTI

And again, this is about GOLDWATER not Obama or Bush

why do u Obama assholes bring up Bush all the time????

  • @DoctorSapperstein they have nothing else to say. the media has done suh a good job that when you say conservative obamazombies think of bush. that man was not a conservative.

  • @bobrec3GTI Tarp has been paid off.....and government should NEVER be so big that we have to bail programs...there is no competition for government run programs and that's why it is left for the tax payer. Solid Jobs??? Solid jobs that make significantly more than comparable jobs in the private sector. These people need a serious pay decrease and that includes our politicians!

  • @DoctorSapperstein Actually obama would be bush 3.0 we've already had 2 bushes in the white house.

  • @RGiacobbe what I'm saying is, he slowly transformed the Republican Party into a bigger government involved with helping corporations without helping those who need to stimulate the economy, and less accepting views toward minority groups and homosexuals, and basic human privacy rights.. Not that he did that all at once..

  • @bobrec3GTI This is your opinion, because its not grounded in fact. I'm not debating with someone so ignorant of history and who embraces propaganda. Yes, he opposed the civil rights act, but for specific reasons. But he championed constitutional liberties for minorities and gays, despised the religious right, and did not support corporate welfare. Go read "Conscience of a Conservative," specifically the parts on the roles of government vs. business, and watch the "Mr. Conservative" DVD.

  • @bobrec3GTI Honestly, you clearly hate Goldwater and are not dealing in facts. His nephew Ty is gay and he openly loved and embraced him, along with coming out in major support of gays in the '80's when anti-gay hysteria was at its height. He was the FIRST politician to ask for the repeal of anti-gay restrictions in the US military. You simply hate Goldwater and are ignoring the facts, or just too dense to understand them.

  • @RGiacobbe seems as if all your fellow republicans have gay family members

  • @bobrec3GTI I am not a republican. I am a Barry Goldwater libertarian conservative. Big difference, genius.

  • @bobrec3GTI

    Oh, and another "gay" comment?

Calling companies "faggot companies" and then commenting that Republicans have gay family members?

This is a big issue for you?

    Don't ask, don't tell.Learn how to read.

  • @jojojigaboo good job changing the subject. you truly know how to cut to the chase of things. NOT

  • @bobrec3GTI

    change what subject?

I replied to your comments about spending and the "curveball" u directed at someone by mentioning TARP.

Yeah, and TARP was voted in favor of by OBAMA!

TARP is garbage and the overspending OBAMA is garbage

That was the point of my anti-bailout comments & you steered the conversation to Bush

Nobody was even talking about Bush.

    YOU brought him up!

  • @RGiacobbe thats cool then, i consider myself more libertarian than anything else

  • A couple of years after the collapse of the Soviet Union, Barry Goldwater asked to see Mikhail Gorbachev. Gorby never accepted Goldwater's request to see him... What an amazing meeting that would have been and strongly suggested Goldwater never held the Russian people responsible for the errors of their leaders.

  • @marcparella I guess it's because he didn't want to hear "I told you so". xD

  • Yes friends listen to the end of the speech, a simple "thank you." No "god bless America" non-sense. Wish our leaders would get God out government and put him where he belongs: in Church.

  • Who was running against Goldwater in this election? And what caused him to lose?

  • Lyndon Johnson I think

He probably didnt win cause he put a little too much emphasis on liberty and states rights- which today is described as "radical". Still pretty sure the election was a close one .

  • Thankyou for your answer, and supporting states rights makes me a radical, then count me in as being a radical. I guess by those terms Patrick Henry and George Mason where radicals too.

  • @ericlebo Goldwater challenged President Lyndon Johnson, who had become president upon Kennedy's death less than a year earlier. And therein lies the reason for Goldwater's defeat. The American people always want to give a new administration a chance to prove itself, and there was no way they were going to elect their third president in less than a year's time.

  • Ron Paul is the closest we have to Barry Goldwater. Ron Paul 2012!

  • I love this dude, but something about the term "live under freedom" doesn't make personal responsibility sound all that appealing.

Kind of a projection of oedipal desires at mistress fortuna...

  • Barry Goldwater was a great man indeed! A+++

  • Old School Baby!

  • They told me that if I voted for Barry Goldwater we would be at war!

I did and sure enough we were!

  • But Goldwater would be.

  • Rockefeller refused to nominate in 1976.

  • barry goldwater is an example of a true republican.not a bible bashing zealot that republicans have become.he died being ashamed of his party .

  • you are absolutely correct.

  • If Barry were alive today he would be a Libertarian.

  • im a libertarian- i hope Ron Paul breaks are chain from the federal reserve someday. its very unamerican and unjust. one question on abortion: if we think that the mother is free to abort because of choice alone then why do the fathers have to pay child support? after all we say that the father has no say in abortion yet he must take a paternity test to possibly pay? so if its her body alone or her choice alone why is there child support?

  • Reagan also held alot of speeches (A time for choosing) in favor of Barry Goldwater, and they're just mindblowing. It's truly a shame that LBJ won.

  • You're crazy. Why don't you go and just campaign. haha

  • @Cooman456 Get your first clue by watching 'Right, All Along' on FOX News.

Rockefeller was chanted off the stage at the Republican convention...OFF the stage!

  • @Cooman456

Rockefeller was more liberal than LBJ and probably would have surrendered the U.S. to the Soviet Union if elected

  • @glennmillerfan hhaha what? liberals are for freedom, conservatives are for war and control.

  • @cpufightclub Liberals are for lack of freedom of the individual for the sake of proposed equality for the masses.

  • Barry Goldwater was not just a conservative but a Libertarian.

He was pro-choice, pro-legalization of marijuana and pro-gay rights.

    Barry Goldwater believe in FREEDOM.

  • The beauty in being a LIBERTARIAN, is that we can freely disagree on issues; yet share the same philosophy, and agree on PRINCIPLES.. our beliefs are not based upon an individual man or woman, but upon principles. I am a gay man who happens to believe that abortion is morally wrong upon the Natural Right of LIFE. You are free to disagree, and I am happy that we are both free.

  • asmeal01--

The LAW of the United States is NOT the "Natural Right of LIFE" but PERSONAL FREEDOM and under the "law of the land" that is precisely how this issue, or any other, is to be decided.

  • @asmeal01 Me too brother.

  • Goldwater was the one who "got" me into politics, so to speak. I read a great biography of him and fell in love with him as a politician. He is the type every Republican should strive to be. Goldwater was a no-nonsense kind of guy. He even HATED the Religious Right and was tolerant on issues like abortion and gay rights. He said, "You don't have to be straight; you just have to shoot straight" on DADT. He called the current Republicans kooks and wanted nothing to do with them.

  • The welfare state has been squandered by a bunch of theocratic neocons who don't have the spine to end big government once and for all. They let Bill Clinton take all the credit for welfare reform and "the era of big gov't is over" and balancing the budget. They didn't follow through on the Contract with America. Reagan compromised cutting spending just to accept big Democratic budgets with increased defense spending.

  • Err, not welfare state. I mean Goldwater Revolution. Silly me.

  • Like Bill Maher said about Reagan and the Cold War, you don't come in on Act 5 and when it ends and call that guy the victor.

  • Someone did win the cold war....his name was Ronald Reagan!!!

  • How did he win the cold war?

  • Watch the documentary In the face of Evil Reagan's war in word and deed. Then you'll know.

  • That "documentary" is one giant piece of propaganda tool keeping the mass in check. For a moment I though you were going to explain your own views. But i guess i wasted my time.

  • Why is it a waste of time? Could it be because your a yellow back liberal who doesn't understand what freedom demands. Peace through strength keeps America safe not backing down and trying to make friends with dictators. Jimmy Carter and Barak Obama are prime examples of this.

  • Sir you do not know my political views and I don't appreciate your petty labels.

Judging from your response, it wouldn't even matter what your views were on Reagan anyway. You have none. Come to think of it why did you leave a Reagan comment on a Goldwater page? Two very different people and not even equal.

  • Your right they are not remotly eqaul as Reagan stands far above Goldwater in stature and everything else. Finally I say your a liberal because you are...you clearly dislike Reagan something only liberals do.

  • I think that the argument between Goldwater and Reagan is petty. They both spoke highly of each other. In fact, without Goldwater you may not have even had a president Ronald Reagan. Peace through strength is an idea that has worked well in the past - when we're challenged by large, standing armies. Reagan and Goldwater would have booed both Bush's on foreign policy, secrecy of their administrations, and the disgusting growth of government that happened on their watch.

  • As I thought, Kool-aid drinker to the bitter end. Learn about politics before you run your mouth next time. Reagan wished to be like Barry Goldwater but he was a abysmal failure as a conservative. Even he acknowledge that.

  • i,m not sure i agree with your view on reagan although i do think your thoughts are good for honest thinkers to ponder . I guess i appreciated the way Reagan governed compared to who we've had since him. His mistake was to pick bush sr. as his 2nd in command and also doing it in the heat of the night . abysmal is way off base he may not have been as conservative as buckley or as far right as ron paul (which ultimately is the direction are country needs to go )

  • but he would welcomed as a liberater in this country at this time. Ron Paul is great but slightly unpolished for this MTV generation

  • tvicena: If you ask ever conservative why they idolize Reagan, they would respond mainly because he reduced the income tax and or defeated the "evil empire" though I'm not sure how the ladder makes one politically conservative. I will agree with you that Ron Paul could have worked better in presenting his side to main stream America but I do believe his son will do much better job if he stays on the message.

  • As for Reagan I like to believe that he really tried to stay on the conservative path. But his focus was on governing already a large government even later increased spending and national debt rather then focusing on reducing the size of the government. Amnesty to illegals, increase of payroll tax, arms sales to Hussein resulting mass killings of Kurds, Iranians, support of contra's in South America. Like "W", Reagan had surrounded himself with some bad people.

  • h"e sure would have, somebody needs to takeup his cause before the party is truly ruined by these fanatics we have today." Somebody already has. His name is Ron Paul.:D

  • Goldwater was the man.

  • Goldwater for president

  • He was a Jewish Vietnam war opponent, pro-choice, gay-rights Republican and he stole the Deep South (bar Arkansas, Tennessee and North Carolina) from a Southern FDR war-mongering Democrat.

    Say what?

  • His father was Jewish, he was a Espocopalian, but a good man all the same :D

  • Wish the old man was still alive. Would have done some serious ass kicking to the Bush Administration.

  • he sure would have, somebody needs to takeup his cause before the party is truly ruined by these fanatics we have today

  • Barry Goldwater defended conservatism using libertarian values, he didn't defend conservatism by invoking a divine mandate.

  • Hear what Barry says at the end: "Thank you" No God Bless You and God Bless America nonsense and politicians have been programmed to say today. Barry spoke as if meant it. Our politicians today can't end a speech with invoking the All Mighty who I am sure would rather not involved in the process.

  • Goldwater would be considered a liberal today just as Ron Paul is a liberal and a but to boot today.

  • Wrong.

  • barry goldwater's pretty sweet.
