Wow for 10 g's I would strongly recommend an e46 3 series 01 - 05. They handle better than almost anything on the road even at that price it'll give a Porsche a run for its money, the braking is ridiculous on any standard 3 series , and they are acceptable in terms of speed, slow but not mustang v6 slow. Or a 350z , speed ,style, handling and a nice sound.

Matt, love your answers but at the same time you have to remember that this kid is 16. now at that age you know he is going to be tempted to see what his car can do, and you also know there is a rather large chance of an accident. thats why these professionals did not reccommend to him anything larger than a v6. the mini, miata and mazda 3 are good,but the vette, mustang and gto...forget about it even if they are very cool they are too powerful and need an experienced driver.

@straightedge442 practicallity often beats out fun factor in the real world even with enthusiasts, especially those who aren't looking to own 2 or 3 cars.
By the way, I had about $9-10k to spend (Canadian) and I found that for 8k, the Maxima was by far the most luxurious and fastest car (6 sec 0-60). The Mazda 6 was a close second and the Ford Fusion I could get for even less but it's not a fast car at all.
insurance is a huge scam that just puts money into rich peoples pockets and screws over students, the middle class and undermiddle class. it's absolutely ridiculous how they can just set claims on their own therms and it's final.

Geez I wish I had 10 grand when I was 16. I didn't get my first car until I was 17 and I was supposed to get a 72 Chevelle SS. Deal fell through and parents got me a 98 5 speed 4 banger Ranger instead. After few months, the ranger got boring and I wanted something better. I got a job and finally when I was 18 bought something exciting... a 1970 Firebird Formula AND restoring it. That was $4K and I've put about another $4k into it (3k just into the motor) and it hauls ass!!!
@offroad03able I'm a big fan of muscle cars, my dad has a 69' Camaro blue with white stripes with 454 in it but I do got to say because I see a lot of people saying this, there is a difference between a ricer and a tuner. Only stupid "homies" have ricers but people that appreciate their cars and that are into it have tuners.
Of the 10 grand, you might want to save 3 grand for the insurance. And that's per year. And of course a speeding ticket (gonna happen in a Mustang GT without fail), will boost the insurance about a grand per offense. Go cat Go!
@evlryd except when you turn your girlfriend into a vegetable, it's sort of nice to be able to help pay for her care. There are some, not many, things in this world that one should own up to. Taking care of their own fuckups is one. But there are always dirtbags that feel that they don't even care about that. @Allieisatastyflavor well its not natural selection if sum1 tells you to do it...maybe if they just pick it out of the blue...but if sum1 is telling them witch cars are the fastest rather then them buy something that they like... and honestly most first time drivers are gonna wreck no matter what weather they have a fast car or not, them having a fast car is just gonna increase the chances that they have a fatal accident, or injure sum1 else because of their inexperience so you shadaaaaapppp :)

Matt, love your answers but at the same time you have to remember that this kid is 16. now at that age you know he is going to be tempted to see what his car can do, and you also know there is a rather large chance of an accident. thats why these professionals did not reccommend to him anything larger than a v6. the mini, miata and mazda 3 are good,but the vette, mustang and gto...forget about it even if they are very cool they are too powerful and need an experienced driver.

By the way, I had about $9-10k to spend (Canadian) and I found that for 8k, the Maxima was by far the most luxurious and fastest car (6 sec 0-60). The Mazda 6 was a close second and the Ford Fusion I could get for even less but it's not a fast car at all.

Geez I wish I had 10 grand when I was 16. I didn't get my first car until I was 17 and I was supposed to get a 72 Chevelle SS. Deal fell through and parents got me a 98 5 speed 4 banger Ranger instead. After few months, the ranger got boring and I wanted something better. I got a job and finally when I was 18 bought something exciting... a 1970 Firebird Formula AND restoring it. That was $4K and I've put about another $4k into it (3k just into the motor) and it hauls ass!!!

Of the 10 grand, you might want to save 3 grand for the insurance. And that's per year. And of course a speeding ticket (gonna happen in a Mustang GT without fail), will boost the insurance about a grand per offense. Go cat Go!

@evlryd except when you turn your girlfriend into a vegetable, it's sort of nice to be able to help pay for her care. There are some, not many, things in this world that one should own up to. Taking care of their own fuckups is one. But there are always dirtbags that feel that they don't even care about that. Most of them will spend time in the justice system anyway, so I guess insurance is the least worry.
