@christyannification just because some songs she sings at a Heritage Keepers Convention (whatever the fuck that is...it sounds like an organization that is anti interracial dating/marraige) are good, doesn't make them hits...A hit is a song that can be heard outside of a convention and is popular with the general public...
kathy's known as a christian singer ...this was a big hit on the christian music charts....it's basically a a generic christian love song, but i still love it...
Very close...she was Taylor Dayne's backup singer on her "Can't Fight Fate" album :). It was a friend of mine that pointed it out to me. He is a huge Taylor Dayne fan, even named his daughter after her. Me, well, while I like Taylor Dayne, I preferred Kathy. When I first saw this video, I was like DAMN she is beautiful. I actually like her voice better than Taylor's as well. I was hoping to hear more songs like this from her, but sadly, it wasn't her interest.
I've always loved this song but not until today did I notice the similarity to Taylor Dayne! I wish Kathy had done more secular music that had hit. "If I'm Not In Love" is still one of my all time favorite love songs!
i heard this song at the grocery store the other day when i was shopping, and you know when it plays at the grocery store, its not really popular anymore, so sad, as it is such a good song.
As I look back I just realized that a lot of her songs that crossed over were basically gospel songs, but they just had secular metaphors. In this song she must be talking about her love for God. Once that happens, everything changes!
Too bad the music gurus wanted her to compromise her values. She walked away with nothing but the fact that she would not be bent. Hooray for C.T. I remember her in the early 90s and then nothing.
I remember this track so well - summer 1992, it was getting so much radio play here in the UK, i absolutely loved it. Then for years i tried to remember it and couldn't and couldn't find it...then i found it on Myspace 3 years ago and again now.
Kathy has been around for many, many years. She's not 'ripping off' Taylor Dane. She has always been a very successful gospel singer since the 1980's and was responsible for many of my own song creations. Look up her massive hits like Stubborn Love and many CD's after. She's fun, hip and entertaining.
You sound like Rush Limbaugh who made that statement a few years ago. She has had several hits over the years....as a Christian singer. And she has a beautiful voice. When she sings with Sandi Patty she gives me goosebumps.
I saw Kathy in concert at Davenport Iowa in '97. It was the most amazing concert I have ever seen! The show was outdoors on the Mississippi river front. A storm was moving in. Lightning and thunder all around, but the clouds literally split and the stars were visible above us for through the entire show. She did this song and introduced it as the song that everyone thought Taylor Dayne did.

@yoshiofdeath It's interesting that you say that. Kathy & Margaret went 2 school 2gether & were friends at East Islip H.S. in the 70's. They both went toward the Christian venue of music, but Kathy mainstreamed a little more into the pop culture 4 a while in the early 80's (when this song first came out). My sister who is 2 yrs older than me was friends w/ Margaret & I'm closer in age 2 Kathy. She entertained us on many evenings on the walking bridge w/ just her voice and guitar in hand :-)

@ajason495 Well she did team up with Taylor Dayne on her second album providing backing vocals for 'I'll Be Your Shelter', however i as well thought this was a Taylor Dayne song until i got a compilation of 90s music.

My God - What a radiant Beauty ! I spent my whole life running away from the prettiest girls. I may have thought twice before turning away from this girl. Her spirit and character is as beautiful as she is ... God Bless you Kathy...... This song is as beautiful as she is.....
@dewaynecullen I remember a song called "Don't Walk Away" by Toni Childs. I think it was from the early 90's, though. Is that the song you're talking about?
I think the best pop songs of her,were "tell me where it hurts" and "If I'm not in love","If I'm not in love"also covered by Japanese singer Yuna Ito ,which was a theme song from the movie"Nana",called "Endless story".
There are many similarities in this song and video to Whitney Houston's "How Will I Know". Multi-colored phones , confetti and photographers in fast-motion.
SHE is so versitile w/ her music! SHE loves life!!! ;)!!! Hey YOU -tube friends, love ya! Respond. You are special friends from many lands. keep in touch , luv ya!!!
@sarniarocks amen sista, she's the bomb!! I lovd her 4-ever!!! ;) She has so much talent, sound a lil like like Cher in this vidieo...HMMM. what a beutiful lady.
Oh my goodness... I had to laugh at joonie's post because when I first played the video I told my husband... "she looks a lot like Peg Bundy" and when I scrolled down later for comments I saw Joonie's. Too funny! And yes... she also sounds like Taylor Dayne! But I still love the song.
yeah isn't it funny when you hear a really good song at a supermarket? that's how i discovered "who's holding donna now" like a gazillion years after it was first released.
I love this song and her voice is amazing:) I have loved this song since it came out and until now saw the video..I have had my own images of what this vbideo would be like an dthis wasent it at all....I thought it would have a diffrent outlook than just cheesy but its still good:) Love her!
I can tell you all WHY she sounds a lot like Taylor Dayne...Ite because Not only did I do the music for this track I also did the music for Taylor Dayne. Kathy needed a first single and I figured i would give her one of my pop hell radio sounded arrangements. I have not heard this track in 10 years.
@dcamack At 51, she's still available for any guy . Saw her in concert recently -- this song is no longer even used by her. She's more prone to "A Different Road" and "Go Light Your World".
I remember when this song came out. I think it was in Spring '92. I was in College, toward the end of the semester, getting ready to go home for Summer Break. I was convinced it was Taylor Dayne at first. Come to find out, Kathy Troccoli had previously sung backup for Taylor Dayne. I had long ago committed every word and key-change of this song to memory, but had never seen the video until now!
@nipkow21 I, too, could have swore this was Taylor Dane up until LAST MONTH! In the Spring of 92 i wasn't in College, in fact i had to sign out until another time, and had a baby girl. I've been happily re-married since then and my baby girl is now 18, looking to go to College herself these days! "Everything Changes....."

@nipkow21 This used to be my joint. I never knew there was a video for this. I used to listen to it on my radio every time they used to play it. She does sound somewhat like Taylor Dayne but I could always tell the difference between the two. Taylor's voice is more soulful. Just a little though. This woman jams.
man, i haven't heard this song in like 15 years! i remember i had this cassette, and i LOVED it! she is so talented, and she grew up like 10 mins from where i did!
Looks like an 80s video but is in fact early 90s. I liked it back then and still do, but I think it is slightly overproduced. I counted 9 sets (the close-up, the mirror, girl in jeans trying different hats, black dress, room with a table, hot pants, NY skyline, phone scene, museum). 4 or 5 would have done. But still, I really like Kathy Troccoli and have fond memories of this song.
She has such a distinctive voice!!

My God - What a radiant Beauty ! I spent my whole life running away from the prettiest girls. I may have thought twice before turning away from this girl. Her spirit and character is as beautiful as she is ... God Bless you Kathy...... This song is as beautiful as she is.....

does anyone remember "Don't Walk Away" ? - I think she sung it also back in the eighties - great tune!

@dewaynecullen You're not talking about Jade's "Don't Walk Away" don't you?
Doobie1975 11 months ago
@dewaynecullen I remember a song called "Don't Walk Away" by Toni Childs. I think it was from the early 90's, though. Is that the song you're talking about?
mixnremix 11 months ago
@mixnremix thanks! That's the one:)

I think the best pop songs of her,were "tell me where it hurts" and "If I'm not in love","If I'm not in love"also covered by Japanese singer Yuna Ito ,which was a theme song from the movie"Nana",called "Endless story".

it's a very lively colorful video and the song is so beautiful indeed. she's pretty too.

There are many similarities in this song and video to Whitney Houston's "How Will I Know". Multi-colored phones , confetti and photographers in fast-motion.

Meliniy 1 year ago
Oh my goodness... I had to laugh at joonie's post because when I first played the video I told my husband... "she looks a lot like Peg Bundy" and when I scrolled down later for comments I saw Joonie's. Too funny! And yes... she also sounds like Taylor Dayne! But I still love the song.

yeah isn't it funny when you hear a really good song at a supermarket? that's how i discovered "who's holding donna now" like a gazillion years after it was first released.

I don't know why, but for some (strange) reason she reminds me of Peggy Bundy.

@joonie1974
LMAO!! yeah I can see why she reminds you of Peg Bundy. Red lips and sexy outfit. Great song and singer too. Too funny!!

dcamack 2 years ago
@dcamack At 51, she's still available for any guy . Saw her in concert recently -- this song is no longer even used by her. She's more prone to "A Different Road" and "Go Light Your World".

may say 90's, but this is def 80's ;D

@RMphan
this was out 1992. a good dance song because there is no hip hop in it.
she doesn't have the look of 80s glam women but it's still a good video and fast paced song.

I'm sorry but she is WAY too much of a copy of Taylor Dayne.

I don't think so, Taylor Dayne is considerably younger. Kathy's the original!
marais75012 2 years ago 4
Kathy is only 4 years older that Taylor Dayne. I thought it was taylor dayne the first time I heard this song on the radio.

@nipkow21 I often thought this was Taylor Dayne as well.

@nipkow21 That is so funny, I have always thought they sounded alike!

@marais75012 Troccoli provided backing vocal for Taylor Dayne's song "I'll Be Your Shelter" in 1989/1990. (from wikipedia)

didn't she? She still does, in fact. Just in a more mature way. A good girl.
marais75012 2 years ago
Looks like an 80s video but is in fact early 90s. I liked it back then and still do, but I think it is slightly overproduced. I counted 9 sets (the close-up, the mirror, girl in jeans trying different hats, black dress, room with a table, hot pants, NY skyline, phone scene, museum). 4 or 5 would have done. But still, I really like Kathy Troccoli and have fond memories of this song.
