@Dubpaul40 oh wait... it seems it's also possible using XP's command line and a tool called VDMSound.... read the older comments, somebody posted about it.
can you get a USB controller to work using DOSbox? i tried this game without DOSbox and i couldnt get a USB controller/wheel to work no matter what i did.
my very first F1, i played this when i was 4 years old, and i still have it with me in my PC!!! where u get that car??? i never saw that car in game! can u reply me plz?
I figured things out. in dosbox you have to set the graphics to Automatic, instead of manual, then nearly all visual effects will be disabled. the sound and movement is now fast enough, but not perfect
thanks. I tried it and it worked. But its no track objects and very pixellated graphics (VGA). Hopefully it will be better when I buy a new laptop next week.
Emulation has everything to do with your PC. Emulation puts a major overhead that can only be overcome with more processing power.
I play GP2 in XP with full detail and frame rate using tool called VDMSound. This is the best way. But the problem is that you can't record videos this way.
playing DOS in XP isnt really a miracle, since the cmd in XP is still a bit dossy somewhere far away. Vista doesn't support any kind of 16-bit program, it will terminate it after trying to run it
you could do this by making multiple screenshots rapidly (or automatically with an interval) and then consrtructing a movie of it afterwards. there's screenshot utilities for dos, such as pcxdump.
I don't think a Windows 98 could handle Hypercam or any other screen capture program. If it can though, I suggest finding a way to keep it windowed when it runs to make sure it worked.
i cant even install this game anymore. i tried on 2 different computers and each time it says there's not enough hard disk space left when there clearly is
Hi there, I'm trying to get GP2 to work on my new computer. I've read the documentation i can find, but now luck so far. I was wondering if you could tell me how you are mounting things and what not in DosBox.
Wait... I only got GP2 to run in full settings at good speed with VDMSound. How did you do it? Mine always runs sluggishly on DOSBox, no matter how high I set CPU cycles.
make sure you have the latest dosbox (0.70), all the previous versions are too slow. Version 0.70 should also set the speed correctly automatically. The pc I ran it on in that movie has an AMD XP 2500+ processor, not quite the latest either.
Is it possible to run GP2 on Windows Seven, using DosBox?

Dubpaul40 6 months ago
@Dubpaul40 it will not run on XP without DOSBox. If you want to run without DOSBox you'll need Windows 95/98/ME

@BigFigueiredo18
it's a custom car skin. You could modify a lot in the game with tools made by the game's community.

Nice lap. Notice, by 1994, the 2nd Lesmo corner was still very fast (0:45), compared to nowadays version.

I can't get the sound to work in Dosbox. Does anyone know how the hell I'm supposed to get the sound to work?
JaymzGamez 2 years ago
same as in dos.
set blaster=a220 i5 d1 h5, then run the sound config in the game.
samortails 2 years ago
@samortails How do you do that?
YukiNekoPrincess 1 year ago
when I play this in dosbox 0.72 it lags like hell
nelizmastr 2 years ago
Same here. And if I capture I get the same thing. Probably we need a much faster PC, mine is 5 years old. Big shame.

that has nothing to do with your pc
DosBox emulates a DOS computer, not your own specs. they have nothing to do with it.
the best way to play this game is still getting a W95 machine and play it

you don't need an emulator to run GP2 on Windows 98. I was used to paly it years ago on Win98 and it worked fine. Also 98 includes DOS.
Minardimaniac 2 years ago 3
true, true. It worked excellent on 98.

in windows xp you do not need dos box to play it . i think that in vista you need the emulator

I love this game ^_^
However it works on Windows XP too, but not in Windows Vista.
Gabbianone94 3 years ago
really? I haven't tried it in quite a while, and am using Vista now... good reason to have a look into that..
samortails 3 years ago
Yes, it works well, the only thing it's that the sound doesn't work.
Gabbianone94 3 years ago
How did you make it work in dosbox?

Get an old Pentium 1-category PC with min 16 MBytes of RAM and a simple SB sound card...

villeneuve93 4 years ago
uh... mine ;)
it's a custom skin. Aside from that, GP2 only has 2 car models, a high-nose one and a low-nose one.
samortails 4 years ago
sorry dude...but...why my dosbox with GP2 runs slower?!can you help me, please?
MatteX87 3 years ago
I got the same problem. But when I do GP2 the normal way, it's a Pacific lap (1.13) in 40 real life seconds. Sigh.
