Valve is great. their games are great but there is only one tiny thing that bugs me: you get weapons that have sights on them e.g. the SMG. there is a cool red cross sight on there which you cant use. and firing from the hip on half life is incredibly accurate.

Actually the AI and all the coding was all there. When the hacker stole the original code, it was roughly 50 Gb in size.

The hacker took all of it and removed about 48 Gb but he unfortunately removed quite a chunk of some code.

The man kept the game playable, but, since the Source engine was brand new at the time, he was pretty much running blind in what he was deleting from that 48 Gb hunk

I wish that I could code as quickly as I'm doing the rough map in SKetchup (takes like 10 minutes drawing + 10 minutes modelling, places entinities with a custom made program, +3 minutes, and then tests map). Sometimes I can be coding blind for weeks before I actually can see if it works..

I wish that SU was open source, It's pretty uncomfortable the way I'm working..

That hacker had nothing to do with the overall outcome of the game. All he did was steal it, that's it. He didn't modify it at all.

As far as weapons go, some of the weapons they wanted to use but couldn't use them well at the time the games were being released. Ep3 for example, was able to do more with what they wanted because of the newer technology they gained. Besides, a game doesn't need lots of weapons. If there are to many, it becomes a hassle to sort through.
