Regarding the topic of there being higher 'degrees' above the public three, I've seen the same various lists of ranks in literature going up to thirty-three that I'm sure the rest of you have but from what I know of the semi-secret proceedings of the council of thirty-third degree masons it's my opinion that these are honorific titles. However, I'm sure that the other secret societies and fraternal orders that royalty and other elites are members of are worlds apart from traditional Freemasonry.

OK...for all the wingnuts out there: there is no degree of freemasonry higher than that of the 3rd or Master Mason degree. There are not 360, nor 90. The other degrees, like 32nd or 33rd (honorary) are not higher than the 3rd degree, they simply elaborate on the 3rd. For example, the socalled 4th or Mark Master Mason is an elaboration of the 2nd or Fellowcraft Blue Lodge degree.
