Jamie Cullum had never learned the piano. He began at 17 like a "self made musician". That's probably why your mum does'nt help you as a piano teacher : he's non-conventional...

Exactly this music is unique it is not built upon the primary chords and occasional minor 6th all songs today are like. I have only been listening to Jamie's music for a while as being a classical pianist i want to expand my repetoire to Jazzy music, and i can't wait to start learning some of his stuff. :)
