I think it's really cool how tower defense started off (unless there's another precendent) as a gameplay design for Warcraft III use-map-settings maps, but it blossomed into its own sort of genre. :)

this is a tower defence game, it's it own Genera. Final fantasy has one as well. it's pretty good, but much smiplier, There a demo on psn try it out.

Warcraft 3 has a lot of tower defense games that have been made for it by other developers (using the World Editor which comes with Warcraft 3). I'm pretty sure the first tower defense to ever appear was made in the same way on Starcraft. Warcraft 3 took it to the next level, flash games were made using similar game play, and now consuls are coming out with TDs (Southpark Tower Defense Go is being released on XBox Live).

The thing I don't like about this TD is that it lacks a "mazing" element.
