According to Robert Fisk in his book "The Great War for Civilisation: The Conquest of the Middle East", pp.484,488–489, Israeli defence minister at that time Ariel Sharon and Chief of Staff Rafael Eitan met with the Lebanese Phalangist militia units, inviting them to enter the Sabra and Shatila refugee camps and telling them the PLO fighters were responsible for the assassination of their leader Bashir Gemayel. This is the core information that was neglected/distorted in this movie.
This was a really powerful movie, leaving a deep impression. It wasn't what I expected, and I'm glad I stuck with it. There were moments when I became impatient with the movie but the overall impact is amazing and truly an art form. The last scene leaves you chilled. Or, at least me...
@ppitm I think it's the dream-like quality of it (especially in this scene, portraying a dream). Live action would be too real, but the animation captures the surreality of a dream perfectly.
As an Israeli I'm only proud about the Israeli made animation with such a short budget. In no other place it would be possible to gain such animation in such budget.
very good... its really a documentary were a man tries to remember the war he was in.. i forgot but it is a must watch, but there are some nude scenes not for child
it is an unbelievable movie. i first heard about it playing at my local "vintage" theater, and then i found the dvd at a video store. fucking bad ass.
it was like, one of the most intense movies i've ever seen. probably THE most. amazing.
Right, so euhm, if everyone is free, then how come the Palestinians can't get building materials in their "concentration" camps to rebuild their houses and schools?
Amazing film, absolutely unforgetable music. Masterpiece.

How is it possible that animation can be so riveting? A live action scene could never compare to this.

The thing this movie reminded me mostly of was how violent and senseless war is for either party participating.
Worth watching, definitely.
