People have been "quickscoping" since the very first videogame that had a sniper rifle. It's not something that came from CoD. People have been doing it in battlefield for longer than they have CoD.

Get rid of your stupid prejudices against CoD and you'll see that it's just an effective way to use the sniper. No reason not to do it. He's not hurting anyone.

Just because it didn't show him planting objectives doesn't mean that he didn't. A good helicopte pilot can really fuck up your team. I'd say taking them out is playing the obvective.
