ok, im a noob, but If I buy an ar-15 thats completed, and want to change it to fire somthing like a .223 or the 5.whatever NATO round, do I just need a new upper,barrel and mag? my friend has a 22lr ar and only wants a couple hundred for it. would you buy it and convert it or just buy one already chambered for a bigger round? and would you suggest the .223 or the 5MM nato round? Your input would be very much appreciated
@crzygutrsnobrdr You can run .22lr through a .223 barrel you just need a bolt conversion kit like the CMMG kit. However mine is a dedicated .22lr meaning the barrel is for .22lr. it is literally impossible for me to fire .223 through it because the round won't chamber. If you get a .22lr AR15 you're pretty much stuck with a .22lr AR15 unless you exchange the entire upper receiver.
@PovRayMan if you could buy a dedicated 22lr would it be worth it to convert the reciever and what not to a bigger round? Because I have a .270 bolt right now, but if I would have had a semi I would have gotten 3-4 deer last year, I only got 1 instead lol
is it possible to do a conversion to make this auto by taking it apart, I know it's probably illegal but it would still make a sweet project and I would love to do it lol
Could I get one of these here in California? I'd like to get a 22 LR mag that looks like a 30 cap but carrys only 10 rounds, because it's California :( "Please tell me right away"
also I hope they invent a semi-auto Uzi 22LR here because that's my favorite.
You just buy a box of .22lr ammo and force them into your .223 magazine. Next you simply insert the mag into your AR-15. Then, the final step is to pull all the way back on the charging handle and release it quickly. You may have to do this last step a few times, but keep trying and you'll get the hang of it.
@yougetnopussy he asked a reasonable question, stop being a prick about it
@godzialia he is using a .22 lr upper on his AR lower. You can also just buy .22lr bolt carrier group that replaces the normal .223 bolt since the caliber is about the same.
@EvilLamas No it doesnt, I have a CMMG .22 bolt for my AR and its accurate as any other .22 Ive shot. The .22 expands enough to fully engage the rifling.
I've only had ammo feeding problems which going by the recommended Federal bulk .22lr has not been a problem since. I don't know of any .22lr magpul mags presently and am currently using blackdog magazines.
I usually shoot that ammo and typically if I shoot slow and steady like you are I tend to have no problems but when I start to "rapid fire" I start seeing failures...
Although double taps and triples seem to be okay .. Spikes is a great company!
Yep yep, video angle sucks most of it but you can tell in the first 20 seconds the barrel is the full 16" length before becoming a SBR by US NFA rules.
Nice vid, I bought my AR-22 3 days ago and I love it, it is a m&p smith and wesson

@richiestang78 the callibure is a bit different though, so accuracy suffers allot, as the rifling is differant aswell.

@richiestang78 ok- seems to be fairly specific to barrel types etc.
EvilLamas 1 year ago
@EvilLamas if you have a 1:9 twist barrel it should operate fine
richiestang78 1 year ago
@richiestang78 ok, I'm getting a upper dedicated to .22lr with a 1:16 twist barrel....
EvilLamas 1 year ago
@EvilLamas thats fine, its just if your twist is higher then 1:9 say you have a 1:7 it may over twist the bullet and destabilize it.

have you ever had any problems with it, and if possible, can you get magpul pmags chambered in .22lr?

@Allcalibers
Don't worry about it, cause you couldn't afford one.
