  • Wow, hardly the manic imbecile he was portrayed to be in the movie "Quiz Show"!

  • scumbag had no problem cheating... he only had a problem when others did it

  • @jtj909 he wasnt cheating because everyone was part of the gig, noone was cheated out of money, it was made to entertain people and it did

  • What an endearing man.

  • Incredible. Herb Stemple testifies every day for the Transit Authority. Can you imagine. A proven liar have the audacity to make a living by testifying under oath.

No one thought a thing about it. It's business as usual

  • In his older age, Stempel now looks like he's part Japanese.

  • Stempel For President!

  • Your the man Herb,

  • He is just as bad as Enright, Freedman and Van Doren!

  • count how many times he blinks

  • could pass for an asian

  • @fatass514

Yeah, he does look a bit Asian... he might be able to pass as a Japanese.

  • @BennyDACHO don't insult asians by including him.

  • Remarkable interview. What a warm and gracious man. I appreciate the frankness in his answers.

  • very interesting, i feel sorry for both of them

  • I don't know that I would care to hear anything Van Doren has to say at this point. I think we already have enough information to form reasoned impressions about what actually happened. Van Doren's silence all these years only confirms it all more me...

  • @spagandtuna I remember hearing something that Van Doren later made reference to it, but he never actually mentioned it by name.

  • @spagandtuna did you know that charles van doran did speak out, in new york magazine the july 28, 2008 issue

  • Talk about the show all ready. Geez

  • She didn't ask him how he lost his money.Movie says he gambled it away-

  • There's an interview with Albert Freedman here on youtube. It's been a while since I've watched it and I didn't have my full attention on the video, but he does mention something about Stemple losing the money. And he doesn't like Stemple. Also, it seems surreal, but he defended the practice of fixing game shows. IMO, Freedman wasn't likeable or trustworthy; Herb seems like a nicer and decent guy. Freedman was played by Hank Azaria in the movie, Quiz Show.

  • He actually lost only $20,000 because they played at $2,500 a point and Charles had an 8 point lead. So he still had $49,500 when he left.

  • why are my posts being deleted?

  • Right away Herb Stempel is everything I expected him to be; a smart man with a pride for knowledge. While some say he's just a know-it-all, he doesn't act like that for sure. Regarding his first encounter w/Enright, Herb seemed to know what was going on but didn't oppose it & let Enright walk all over him. The expanations made for how Twenty-One works may seem a bit fruitless since most of us already know how it work; but for archival purposes she had to ask. Good interview w/ good questions.

  • Van Doren is about to go "public", after almost 50 years, about his side of the "TWENTY ONE" affair. I don't know when he's going to have his say, but he's said he would...keep in mind, 'akron', that motion pictures "inspired by actual events" tend to fictionalize certain characters and incidents (and sometime compress events on a timeline) for "dramatic license" and plot purposes, as "Quiz Show" did.

  • An enjoyable interview. I can sure understand idleruler's comment. This fellow seems like a very nice guy. Not so full of himself as he was portrayed in the movie.

  • Herb is one of the smartest people I have ever met -- he is a great guy, just adore him.

  • Fantastic Interview. Maybe you can interview Van Doren?
