The lighting and the puppet are very good. Zooming the camera is very ambitious and difficult to get right, but you did pretty well there too. You used too large of movements in your character to get it smooth. You can use a post-it pad or similar to test you movements in flip-book style. Or ToonBoom makes a flip-book program pretty cheap or a free program like PENCIL that could help you plan your moves. Keep up the good work.
I think part of what made the movement not so smooth too is the lack of flexibility in the puppet. If I had all the proper equipment I'd really like to do some out of foam latex.
I didn't really plot out the movements in advance or write any kind of story line I am sure that would help a lot.
