First of all, thanks for sharing, very nice fill. Also i would like to congratulate you on the excellence of your technique. One, question, PLEASE tell me, what drums do you use, you sound like Dave Weckl on those drums. also if you could comment on the mics you are using that would be great. Thanks again !!

what is the sticking for this.....at first when he demonstrates it on the snare its rlr lrl rlr lrl but it looks lik its kick right left right left left - 2 quick lefts at the end...is that correct??
hey max, crazy stuff! i like it, you change the sticking during the lesson? your 1st approach is LRLRLR, and in the beat and on the toms it seems you play... foot-tom-rimshot R L L is that right?
im not sure if he answered you or not but just incase.... in the beginning he is just demonstrating how sixteenth note triplets divide up against a quarter note pulse. that being said the actual "lick" that hes playing is KRLRLL, which is 6 notes :) hope that helps.
Hey dudkun, The heads are coated emperors and my bass drum size is 22x18. On the bass drum I have an emad on the batter side and emad reso on the resonant head. Max
love the feel lol i can see some ppl before me are arguing bout feeling music lol and i gotta agree not everyone can feel music real deep so obviously not all drummers gonna have the same depth of feel. as for me when i hear good drums theres like this unexplainable feeling. it would be a crime to just call it rhythm where u just ur bop ur head along to it i know some ppl wont understand but those of u who do u know that awesome feeling lol
nah man! It might be a bit confusing if you're not a drummer, not being used to keeping time constantly in your head and so this is a GREAT fill executed perfectly, mixed with extreme technique and even extremer FEEL!
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
excuse me? i've participated in DCI corps and probably have a much higher understanding of rhythm and music. You no doubt have no idea of what you're talking about.
so? not that that would in any way mean you have a "higher understanding" of music and I'm sure you were the one holding everyone in the corps back because it took you twice as long to learn the stuff for the previously mentioned reason of you being INCAPABLE OF FEELING music. Actually if you WERE in in DCI, that would clear up why you can't feel it...
oh wow, I figured you would have a shred of maturity but apparently i was wrong. Good bye, i'm not going to continue this pointless argument because you're just too stubborn. Open your mind and stop being so douchey.
hey blehfaggot listen to the accents it fits perfect. the softer notes just give it a better and more complicated feel. im only fifteen so im not in DCI corps but im good on trap set and id know
you're great at teaching, and you have nice stick control. what are you using for overheads? i'd like to start posting videos but i lack overhead mics.
when you start to play it's like the "buzz noise" of the drums disappear, how do you do that? Is it like a program or something, it sound really nice :)
Hey Fusionkid2, Thanks, When I'm talking I'm using the mic on the vidcam. When I'm playing I switch to the mics on the drumset. That's why it sounds so live when I talk because the camera is far away and picking up the whole room. I use imovie to choose which mic I want to use. Max
The drum set is Yamaha tour custom. The snare is a tama starclassic. It's hard to explain how high i tune the snare. medium high on top and tighter on the bottom.I just keep cranking it up till I like the sound. Also, it will depend on what kind of snare you have ie .. size , wood , metal etc. One tuning won't work for every snare. It's good to experiment. Hope this helps. take care, MAx
hey dude thanx I like your style you r a very cool fellow, lately my right thigh has been getting fatigued for some reason and my pedal work has suffered, how important is the seat elevation and could that be a factor?? i tried all kinds of tensioning on the pedal and same result, should leg be 180 degrees with top of bass or should there be a slight decline, thanx Max
Hey Travis, Seat elevation is important. I would suggest experimenting with different seat heights and see what feels the best. Our bodies are all made differently. What works for one drummer might not for another. Also ,if you play heel up, another possibility could be that you're not resting your heel back down on the pedal after you hit the bass drum . Practice just playing quarter notes with your foot slowly and relaxing your whole leg.Let your leg tell you what feels comfortable
Thanks, This example is an exercise. The groove is simple . It's the first step to mastering playing the fill in a groove. You wouldn't normally play the fill many times in a row like that at first. It's just to see how the groove fits in the time . MAX
Hey Alex, Just to let you know . They're both the same fill (ie BRLRLL) . Part 2 is just placing it within a groove.Hope you Have fun with it. Take care, Max
Very nice, thanks for the ideas :)

It is B-R-L-R-LL I think...
Where the first R is an accent on a tom, and the first L an accent on the snare (or tom), the other R-LL are ghosted.

YES!! He is using a single bass pedal. What you're hearing is the tom very fast after the bass. That gives a very cool double bass effect!
