Hey guys, if you have a spare minute could you check out some of my covers on my channel and give some feedback. It sucks to have to advertise like this but it seems like the only way to get exposure. Thanks if you do check it out...
Of course there's a lot of good music out there these days, you won't find it on the radio, though. I think that should be clear by now. If you want to listen to good modern music you actually need to work for it and search.
Why would their be a modern day equivalent? This is an old style of music that isn't popular at all in this day and age. Personaly i don't see the appeal in someone struming the same cord over and over while someone plays rubish solos over it.
I really don't think that there's a modern day equivalent to these guys. But there are a lot of bands inspired by them like Black Lips, The Black Angels. A lot of psych bands too.
@SamsonOff7 Lou, definately. Listen to Cale's Fear album to get a good idea of his different range and Welsh brogue. Both great in different ways. your pal, dxguy...
the blueprint for brianjonestown massacre, iggy, the blurprint for any music that matters, i hear a band has this in their influences and im like lets check this ish out
@Azure260 dude, seriously, the strokes are the modern equivalent! please listen to them! they always said the velvet underground was their biggest influence. listen to ''clear skies'' and ''someday''. they even did a cover of ''a walk on the wild side'' by lou reed! its pretty good if i can say.
@sunsun410 strokes are ok but range of almost 0 they do their one thing. strokes would have a long way to go to be comparable to vu. vu had no limits. I like the strokes but I heard 'last night' and that was the strokes. what can they do besides 'last night'? haven't heard that yet although i have heard many of their songs. If you try to listen to alot of strokes you will get bored and move on. You can listen to vu for hours and hours and hours.
@OctoSnuffaluffagus well i guess everyones different, because i have been a huge fan of the strokes since '10 and i listen to them all the time and i've never been bored. and it really depends on what album you listened to because yes, their first is a little repetitive, but there are now 4 albums and they already have come a lonnng way. it's been 10 years. listen to their other ones. the 4th is a completely different sound. (sorry for the length of this)
@Azure260 SERIOUSLY? That Velvets-equivalent band formed in Manchester, England, Dec '76. Inspired by VU, Link Ray, German band Can, and Capt. Beefheart--and instantly sounding more eclectic than celebrated contemporaries The Clash--The Fall were called 'the 1st post-punk band' by one critic upon arrival, established the blueprint that US bands Pavement, Sonic Youth & others would turn into the roots of 90s Alt-Rock, helped create Dance-Rock, & continue 2 influence. Hear The Fall @ my place.
It's a bit of a silly question, really. The Velvet Underground were great because they thought of loads of new ideas and sounds. So if there were to be a modern equivalent of Velvet Underground, they would sound totally different :P
@Azure260 I'll attempt to field this one. The Strokes, who, I might add, admit to being heavily influenced by VU. But, I don't necessarily want to say they are "equivalent". The VU did their own thing and the Strokes do their own thing. Sometime, look up "The Modern Age" by the Strokes, I thought that song had VU written all over it.
@Azure260 OH ARE YOU KIDDING ME????? the strokes is just like the velvet undergroun in fact some people says that strokes are the new velvets undergrounds and julian casablancas the singer sing just like the guy from the velvet so later check it THE STROKES but look for the oldest albuns cuz is better than the new look for THE STROKES-BAND-IS THIS IT- ALBUM :)
@thecuyx nah, id say the next return of a Velvet-esque band was Spacemen 3 in the 80s and the Brian Jonestown Massacare in the 90s, the Strokes or nothing but spoiled little rich kids
@theblahman Julian Casablancas never lived with his father (who was the rich parent) from a young age, and was sent to a boarding school abroad. In many interviews about this time in his childhood, he states that he wasn't given much money to spend over there, and often spent time alone while the other students were able to go out with their money. As for the others, they're nowhere near 'rich kids'. And if they were, does that mean their music isn't as good?
@hazuinf Going to an elite boarding school in Switzerland is pretty much the definition of being a spoilt little rich kid, just because his pocket money wasnt as big as the other snobs he hung out with doesnt mean he was slumming it, another member wnet to the same school as well as others going to private school, anyway, hardly worth puttin them up to the likes of the Velvets.
@hazuinf It's your opinion I don't have the right to argue about. But claiming that The Strokes are unable to produce good music? They maid big influence on the later indie/post-punk development.
@MegaDarkChris No, I meant 'being a rich kid =/= (ie, doesn't equal) unable to produce good music'. Because people were talking like you can't produce good music just because you're rich, so I disagreed. I love The Strokes. : )
@hazuinf It's your opinion I don't have the right to argue about. But claiming that The Strokes are unable to produce good music? They maid big influence on the later indie/post-punk development.
Seasick Sarah, had a golden nose, hobnail boots wrapped 'round her toes, When she turned bluuuue, alll the angels screamed! They didn't know, couldn't make the scene.
There is a song similar 2 this I think it's called little run run little run run i think it was sung in the 60s, 70s or 80s don't no who sings it and what the song is actually called, but it was on BBC Radio Kent the other day it's a v old song I no that 4 sure..Can any1 help ???
Running in Paris, at 2 A.M, and this song in the ears, with no place to sleep. I spend the night from midnight to 6 o'clock but I had this song... Beautiful night.
I recall a memorable, amusing '78 quote from Trouser Press mag's "100 Best Guitarists" issue: "Us,kid you?Sure Capt. Naughty was never a technical virtuoso,&maybe it was he didn't quite know how to approach his instrument.Or maybe it was as deliberate as everything else in Lou's subsequent career-but Lou got amazing sounds out his guitar no one had ever gotten before.A recent jam onstage with John Cale proves Lou can still do it...with an approach reminiscent of Neil Young. Take that Lou."
@PandaBearJelly YES they are posing like 60s UNDERGROUND bands peharps they were not into that scene. just they did was to rip off music and fashion style from others obscure bandsof that time. im sorry i cant talk english to tell more. have you ever heard from these bands? all of them are pre VU - 13TH FLOOR ELEVATORS LOLLIPOP SHOPPE FALLEN ANGELS THE BAROQUES DRUIDS OF STONEHENGE LOVE SEEDS CHOCOLATTE WATCHBAND GOLDEN DAWN LOST AND FOUND AUTOSALVAGE etc
@rochebraziliano Actually I have heard of most of those bands thank you... there are a couple that I haven't but I can not look them up as there are no commas in your sentence, preventing me from telling one from the other. As for your argument, it is weak is all I can really say. Every band that ever was has been influenced by bands before their time... what exactly is your point? The VU made great music and that is all that should matter. Each to their own I guess.
@rochebraziliano I am sorry but it is simply to hard to have an argument with someone you can't even understand. You can keep on hating a good band for what ever reasons you see fit, It doesn't really effect me. I listen to music because I enjoy it. I don't let silly things like that effect it. As I have said, good music is good music and that is all that really matters. Good day to you sir.
@rochebraziliano I can't listen to the Velvets with all that bullshit clouding the screen. Go troll bieber fans, or post bieber comments on lynard skynard videos, I hear they get mad at that shit.
"They didn't know, they couldn't make the scene. She had to run run run....."
@PandaBearJelly Im not sying VU its bad music. just its they did rework music of underground and obscure bands it and make it like background music for LOU REED poetry and PREACHER like singing way.
@rochebraziliano I know and appreciate all the bands you mention, but you need to do some research on the VU. They were around well before most all the bands you mention. I know, cause I was there! All the bands then knew eachother and influenced eachother. Then they added their own creative elements to be unique. One thing about the 60's psychedelic underground, if you sounded too similar to a band that's already had some success, nobody listened to you. You had to be unique to survive.
did you ever heard on about first LOU REED band THE BEATS? i think you should not believe everything you read on about LOU REED as really hes overrated by the midia. VU did play FOLK SUNSHINE POP GARAGE BRITISH INVASION PSYCHEDELIC and everything else so whats its music that VU did are masterminds and that people says they did influence over others bands ? response : its they did use that music genres into an experimental way and also getting it as background music for LOU REED poetry
@rochebraziliano I was 16 years old in 1964 and was already following underground music. I saw VU many times in the 60's... all in small clubs. I WAS THERE!!! They had been around and experimenting with it for years. But it was when John Cale joined that it became unique AND listenable. And I do not judge music based on what is written about it... you are being very presumptuous! Please don't respond because you are too difficult to understand... even if you knew what you are talking about!!
true motherfucking rock 'n'roll...I wanna swallow 10 gallons of scotch,10 lsd pills, smoke 10 packs of cigarettes and fuck like crazy when I hear to this one
