  • how did you tame him ?

  • I have had my lovebird for a year now and she still hates me. I did train her enough to trust me to be able to pet her beak, but now she just tries to bite me all the time even when I try to give her treats or just change her water. What can I do?

  • I just got 2 lovebirds they are adults. can anybody tell me how to begin taming them. they are afraid of me they go into there little house and won't come out unless no one is around (i peaked at them when they thought they were alone). can some one help please :/

  • The one sitting on your shoulder at 0:56, what is it called? I've had that one for 14 years right from the beginning when it was about 6 months old, hand fed and bred. Best friend I had in my life, so friendly and sometimes it would sleep with me, and even join me in showers lol.

  • i dont get it, my lovebird comes to me and sometimes he sit on my head,

but he is really afraid for my hands, he flies he is happy but when i try to put him on my finger or when i try to take him, he flies away.

do you have any tips for me?

Nice video i really loved it!

  • @theHardcoreChaos when you go to pick up yoru bird, put reach for him from above and comming at him towards his head. You need to move assertively and fairly swiftly, but not so fast that he panics. you may need to move yoru hand if he changes position to try to dodge you. By puuting yoru hand there, you are blocking his ability to escape by flying away. once you reach him, slide your hand to his back to gently pin his wings to his body and then use the other hand to scoop him up.

  • @theHardcoreChaos you can also look up videos on how to train "step up"-a good skill for your bird to have.

  • Your an excellent bird lover

  • My Lovebird Bites on site if you put your finger in front of him/her.He goes at it Even tho when he/she hears the sound of my voice she chrips like crazy & kiss's my lip. He doesnt trust me but he doesnt hate me.( Sometimes) lol.

  • Happy day kinda lol ... Our newish lovie (not tame) flew to my shoulder today. Reminded me of this video, but instead of another bird to entice him over ... it was food ha ha. But then I think he was shocked and was too scared to eat the food offered.

Love your videos!! Always an inspiration even though my bf just sighs at me when I start watching them for the millionth time ^_^

  • I just bought my lovebird on sunday, i have no idea if they kept the bird always inside a cage because when we put our hand inside the cage he freaks out how do i gain his trust/? and so he can let me grab and take him out once in a while???

  • @DjDeathfire well it isnt to old to tame but it will take a long time to tame him when you buy a agapornis next time be sure he is a 2 mouth old is really easy he comes near me in only 5 days

  • help pleaseee!!! my lovebirds are really aggresive and i want to tame them but i don't know how... can you tell me how?

  • @MrAndreasaek are they in differnt cages? cause that an important first step-each bird should have its own cage, otherwise they bond to eachother and not to their humans....

  • how do you determine if it is a male or a female?

  • @TheArvinian01 blood test

  • hello there, i just read your blogspot about the story of BEBE, it is an incredible story of yours, is that BEBE still alive? if he is, then you should have take good care at him, he's so adorable, God Bless Man! i hope that i can train my bird to be like that. more power

  • nope.

  • Okayyyy!! i need help!! i think Rosie... is Male.. I saw Bayle bending down (crouching) in a corner flapping her wings and i swear to god Rosie was mounting her then i looked they saw me and stopped.

  • I have been getting my bird out alot in an attempt to get her tame. She doesn't want to come out of her cage much though. I leave treats out of the cage and water so she doesn't get thirsty but she never says out for long. Should I take the cage away when I let her out so she can't go in it? Or should I be patient and keep her cage there so she can go back in it when she wants?

  • Ok i need help. My lovebirds are trying to mate(i think atleast thats what it looks like) but i dont want them to. I only had one before but i recently baught another one which i think is a female and the breeder thaought so too. Anyways my male lovebird is trying to mate with her. I have not placed a nestbox in there because i do not want eggs. Please help.

  • The only surefire way to not get them to mate is to separate them. Unfortunately, when you put two lovebirds together that are opposite sex, nature does kick in.

  • and if you dont have a tamed bird how you go about it then ?

  • We have an article on our store website under education on this topic. Please check it out.

  • okay thanks!

  • My little Peach-Face is about 4, and was not handfed so she will try to bite. She is a lot of fun to play with when she is IN the cage though. I talk to her and she goes and attacks her toy as if to show off how big and strong she is. I feed her daily and interact with her IN her cage. Will she get used to me, and let me touch her?

  • @LovePeachyLovebirds I do believe so. Please go to our blog for more info! trueloveviarydotblogspotdotcom.

  • hey stargazrt4, i have a question. i'm raising 2 lovebirds. they were six wks old when i got them. one of them doesnt like me at all he bites real bad and every day it bites harder. and now it's teaching the other one to do so. what can i do?

  • We have a great article on our Store website. Go to our store site and click Education and training. Then read the articles about Taming and How not to get bit. That will help.

  • Can there be more then 2 female lovebirds in one cage?? or will they fight?

  • i got 2 masked lovebirds(male and female-Kiki & Miki) from 2 days and they are really scared of me... need help to tame them

  • wut kind of lovebird is da one on ur shoulder? i have the exact same thing...but mine is scared of me...how can u get them to trust u?...sorry for the grammar

  • Dutch Blue Pied, please go to our blog trueloveaviarydotblogspotdotcom for an article.

  • so cute. I've been wanting a little lovebird of my own. They're pretty hard to find in my area...

  • I read your not to put birds on your shoulder it teaches them they are in control and not you plus they can bite your eye or ear lobe and skin if it gets spooked .

  • That's for birds you can't trust, not birds like mine.

  • hey and for example i have a wild lovebird. she doesnt trust me yet : /

  • You have a purty mouth. :)

  • creepy....

  • Eavi looks just like my lovebird^^

  • aww cody's just peepin x]

  • i have the same cage ^^

  • my love bird has the same green and orange triangle

  • how do you tame lovebirds i just got my married bird and when i pass by they alwas flocker around and get super scared how will i make them like me

  • Go to our blog: trueloveaviarydotblogspotdotcom and we have an article on getting parrots to trust you.

  • I got a question for ya, since I know you guys breed. Exactly how do birds have sex does the male bird have a genitalia like organ going through the back of the female bird? Cause I've never seen it only that the male sits on top which makes me think he's pushing through the top, which must not be true. So if u could back to me that be great, just wondering

  • The only parrot to have a hemipenis in the parrot family is the Vasa Parrot. With the others, everything is located within the cloaca. When the male mounts the female, the male's sperm is transported into her cloaca. Than you for the refreshing question.

  • excuse me but i no this has nothing to do with the video but lets say how can i get ready for a lovebird baby like lets say my birrds have been having sex and i need to buy a nest box is that true then when the baby is born then do i take it away from the parents and feed it formula or do i leave it with the parents then eventualy do i take the baby away from the parents and feed it formula.please i need help!!

  • ohh febbie is nibbling you, this is what birdie is doing at home on our face but as we read they begin to bite, do they bite on purpose?

  • i just bought 2 masked lovebirds 2 days ago so

and i dont have any other birds so how can i tame them

  • I like your attitude...I have a variety of birds, most from people who lost interest, or tried to "train" them and got tired of being bitten. I have two lovebirds perched on my shoulders and a macaw beside me, all fascinated by your birds. In a while these will go back to the bird room and a few others will join me to watch youtube. Affection and food are the only methods I use. Seems to work pretty well.

  • wat if they are 5 year old is harder

  • no.

  • how do you teach love birds not to bite ?

  • Easy, you don't give them a reason to bite you, and you never give them a chance.

    ~Rodney

  • ohkay thanks very much

  • are your mixed breeds sterile?

  • We have no mixed breeds, they are all Peach-faces

  • how do you get the yellow green coloration on "Baby" what exactly is "Evie"? i have a few peachfaces but they look like your "wild" one, no white or yellow on mine. ive been looking for a male of many different colors but ive been told before that any lovebird of mixed color is probably sterile. any advice or comments?

how would i know if a lovebird is sterile? how can i know whether it is a peachface or luttino? your feedback is very important.

  • My yellow-sided green cheek conure breeders have the same story as your Cody and Mia. They were never let out of their breeder cage (which is somewhat small) for years, and when I bought them, I spent months giving them treats through the cage bars and earning their trust. Now I let them out every day for a few hours. They have since then produced 9 babies! It makes for a much happier life for them. They work so hard, raising babies, so I treat them a little more special than normal. Great vid!

  • Oh, that is so good. I read that it takes some birds several months or more to trust their owners. Having tame birds is a good teaching tool.

  • I have 6 lovebirds and 2 pairs that are inlove. I cant really tell there age because i got it from my local pet shop. I bought 1 handfed which cost me $60 and 5 peach faced which cost me $125. Can someone help me what to feed my lovebirds for them to be healthy and have excellent babies. Thanks.

  • what a pretty breeder C: i wish mine was as colorful, hes tame and a cutie but his face is a pale grey, why do they seem to fade as you breed?

  • Well, i have 4 love birds n the mommy n daddy r wild but they had a pair, now is it stil hard to like get them used to us touching them?.....cause they bite really hard....we tried like having them around us but they look really scared...n fly everywhere.....so yeah they r really cute tho cause when they know its time for us to change their food they do like a lil dance around the food tray n like walk away n if we dont pay att. 2 them they keep chirpin really loud!!!! they r pretty smart!

  • they r beautiful!

  • I would just wait then. Even an outdoor aviary would be a huge commitment. Let me know if I can help you in any way.

    ~Rodney

  • do you think it's better to buy one, tame him and only after that buy an other one or do you think it's ok to buy two imediately? Will it make the taming process harder? Should they stay in separate cages until they get tamed?

  • Do you want the politically correct answer or do you want the real answer?

    ~Rodney

  • nice video dude. 5/5 stars

  • ok i hav one thin to ask. now my male lovebird i knew him longer then the female. n he trust me n comes to me n everythin. but the female she almost there but how can i get her to in a faster way..

  • Hah, at 0:08 to the right of Evee's head you see Mia! :)

  • Mia's all like "Please don't bother, I'm busy."

  • xD I love how she's randomly in the middle, just staring at everything that's going on. xP Cutie Mia.

  • :40 look at Cody, he looks cute, and Evee at the end was cute too.

  • :D They're all cute!

  • I came across this video by accident and now I am deaf in my right ear...*Gives evil look to lovebird on shoulder* haha ^^'

  • You are so cute to your birds. It brings a smile to my face seeing how you treat them =)

  • Thank you so much.

  • how do you get a "wild","non tame" love bird?!??!?

  • Most of them come that way.

  • oh...

  • lol the baby is trying to feed you ? xD

  • did you buy them tame?????????????

  • They look like mangos :D

  • cutest birds ever i love lovebirds!!! my friend has one the boy is really friendly and goes by everybody and the girl is very scared to go near people...they had her for a year now and screams and runs away when people try to get near...shes very cute though lol

  • how do you get your birds to sit on your shoulder like that can you give me some tips

  • Hey Stargazrt4 great videos keep watching them over and over again XD lol anwyays ive got myself a pair of lovebirds but sadly not tame :( i really need help on taming them!!!!!!!! Thanks Nabs :D

  • Hmm... I recently just got another lovebird. It's still immature, since the black marking in the beak is still there, but this one has not been tamed so she is still afraid of me. Anyway, I already have 2 tame lovebirds (one of them is Chatot, and I believe I sent some pictures to you guys :)) and I want to be able to tame this new one. So, how exactly did you get the tame ones "teach" the wild one to be tame? Hehe...

  • i have a stuped quistion what does taming mean?

  • it means you pet it and trust you so it will never leave

  • wow this is very nice I never knew you can do that thank you!

  • aww that was cute. lol. I want birdies like that.. c:

  • that is awsome. ive brought to love birds (peach faced). i have know other birds in the house that are tamed. i think i am going to have a really hard time trying to get them to trust me. i dont want to let them out of their cage either incase i can get them back in.

  • clip the wings if u want

  • We do not want to.

    ~Rodney

  • My reply was for @Fishboy6666 (3 weeks ago)

  • You mean that's how LOVEBIRDS teach a lovebird to trust you.

  • We use this as part of the taming process yes.

  • I got 2 love birds like cody :D love birds truley are very beautiful and cute x

  • Hi im really thinking of getting a pet lovebird....but im wondering if its better to get Two at the same time or just one? I plan on getting it soon. Also...do you cover the cage at night? PLEASE comment on my profile if you cant here is fine...^^ thx so much

  • Well if you get one it will bond to you.. but you have to spend LOADS of times with it. You couldn't have a long day job with only one. If you have 2 they are more likely to bond with each other rather than you. And you can have a day job. (but not too long )

  • when your bird bites you it usally means it is not handtamed. So it has little experience with people. Im not too sure how you can tame them but make sure you always get from a handfeed breeder.!

  • yep.

  • Not nessecarily.

Even tamebirds can bite, mostly when the owner fails to read their pets bodylanguage.

Handfeeding birds are disturbed birds. The golden rule of breeding is let the parents do the job only handfeed them when needed. It wil not produce 'more' tame birds only birds without any social bird skills. Almost every parrot(like) bird is able to tame with enough attention (and knowledge)

  • Sorry, Hubert I respectfully disagree with you on your view of Handfed birds.

  • This is not true. Handfed birds are not disturbed birds who have learned nothing about natural social bird skills, if not even better social skills in all areas. Handfed birds do produce more tame birds. There is a huge difference between handfeeding in a way where you take the babies and not expose them to their parents or any other bird from that point on, And handfeeding like TLAviary does and lets them spend time with the parents and the rest of the bird family, both tame and wild.

  • i have a few big lovebirds and i want to tame them but not sure how and there big lol great video

  • my lovebird is 3mths old and it keeps on biting my/other peoples' fingers. does that mean it still doesnt trust me ?

and how can i make it stop biting me !!x_x

  • does clipping their wings make them tamer?

I am having a hard time taming my new lovie because my older one is possessive of me and keeps chasing her away when she gets close.

  • This is a highly debatable topic. From our experiences, clipping the wings does help to make them tamer. We have tried both ways with our fid, Evee. She actually is very independent with her wings and tends to be a bit more naughty. BeBe, however, remained just as tame, but took more risks getting close to the door when I would come in and out. It was safer for our situation to clip him.

  • We do a baby clip on our babies as part of the taming process and found it to be essential when they are learning who humans are.

  • We do not clip our breeders though.

  • Could you please give me some advice? My lovebird is almost 3 years old, it had some eggs with my other bird and now it bites me really hard. Does that mean that it hates me or is it because it had some eggs? How could I fix this problem? Thanks!! :-)

  • Mostly due to the fact that they have eggs. Just let them be while they have eggs.

  • Ok, thanks a lot. Also, what should I do if it bites me when it doesn't have eggs?

  • i think i need to borrow a tame bird my cocketiel used to sit on my finger through the cage and have this head stroked but i went away for a few days and the carers had children i think something most have happened to him

  • Oh, I am so sorry. It can be so hard when you trust someone to take care of your bird and then something like that happens.

  • It would help if you glued sunflower seeds to your shirt.

  • haha!

  • I've tammed allot of breeders.

If people have the time it's easy.

  • You are exactly right. It takes time and patience.

  • Haha BeBe

  • I just got two cockatiels that were really abused in the past and everytime i approtch their cage they freak out. how can i gain their trust, and how can i get them to come out and play with me?

  • Play gentle birdie games like blinking at them, (do not stare straight on at them with two eyes, that is what predators do), when they stretch to say hello, you do the same, and when they eat, eat beside them (that is what flock members do.) Leave their cage door open to see if they wants to come out; a bird needs to know that her home extends past the cage bars. And if they want to come out, they might want to interact also.

  • Good work. I had the same thing with my 2 birds,Nibbels the tame one teaching Cosmo the young and wild agapon to trust me.

It is cute to see.(sorry if my english is not that good)

  • Bravo, Bravo!! I could never do that. This is going very well. Congratulations! :3 Keep going, this is wonderful!

  • Lol, uhh that went well? xD

  • It did! Very well! That is a huge difference from the clinging-to-the side, afraid-of-people bird we got 6 months ago!
