In my opinion, women tend to get praised for dressing like tom boys because in some form it promotes "female empowerment". Look at Beyonce's "If I Were A Boy" and Ciara's "Like A Boy", BOTH hits... You KNOW it would NOT have worked if it was "If I Were a Girl" because it's not taken seriously... Why? Exactly. Women aren't taken seriously by men. It's harsh, but true. Thousands fear a female president! Men are afraid of losing power and that's why gay men are viewed as a "discrace" to all men.

Although more women are comfortable with gay men, there are also the women (ESPECIALLY IN THE BLACK COMMUNITY) who hate gay men cause they think "THEY'RE TAKING ALL THE GOOD MEN! Lesbians have their share of discrimination, but let's be honest... Men deal with it WAY MORE.... You will see people question a man's sexuality FAR MORE than anyone questions a woman.... Why? Men are afraid to express themselves which makes us an easy target for sexual suspicion. If a man is on the down low, he's automatically a filthy pig. If a woman is on the down low, she's "GOING THROUGH A PHASE". Why is it women can switch sexualites and men can't? It makes no sense.

My father was very much into double standards. I really was not allowed to have any type of social life growing up, no dating, just very sheltered. Whereas my younger brother was almost THROWN into the very same situations I was made to avoid. All it accomplished was me resenting both my father and my brother for a really long time. I just really came out of my shell a few years ago, and I'm 23 years old. Parents think it helps their children, they couldn't be more wrong.

Ok in society it's OK to be a boy...girls can look like boys and act like boys it's all good but for a boy to look or act like a girl it's seen as "DEGRADING"...like he's taking a step down instead of a step up by accpeting that "male" role.
