Mike, please Please,PLEASE!!! go on tour with the other guys this summer. It's not The Monkees without you. It's good, but it's like The Beatles without John. Yeah "Real Love" and "Free As A Bird" were alright, but not quite the same. write Mike at video ranch dot com and make your pleas heard as well.
You're a really rude individual. I still love the guys. You're obviously a crude person and I'm guessing you're not that great looking. They might all be in their 60's but I bet they're still better looking than you are. :)
No--I'm guessing you're not better looking than the Monkees. In fact, that stuffed monkey on the show probably is better looking than you are and he most certainly has a better personality. Why don't you post some pics on yourself and we'll take a survey as to who is better looking? (PLEASE--NO NUDE PICS, I'd like to retain my vision.)
I agree - I grew up watching these people and they are still part of my childhood. I loved them heaps, and they left behind some great songs. They are a cult in their own right - even today. How many of todays 'shitty' acts will be remembered in 44 years time - none!
trivia:: steven stills of crosby stills nash and (sometimes) young auditioned for the original monkees cast-but was turned down because he was too short (5'-6" i think).
@AllMixedUp312 very good point...someone else said he didn't get the role because he had 'bad teeth' poor steven, he just doesn't get much respect in monkey'sville!
@AllMixedUp312 good point......... but I think I heard somwhere that his agent or whoever got him a contract that said he would deffinatly be in it......... and I for one am glad because Davy's my fave =:]
You're an idiot. Davy Jones is very talented. He was actually a Broadway performer before he got the part on the Monkees and was nominated for a Tony Award. Not only does he have a wonderful voice but he's also very sweet and charming. Your opinion means nothing.
Yes, 1996. My kids were in grade school. I showed them videos the Monkees and they loved them. I thought this movie had some good bits. The special fx were top shelf.
This film was made and broadecast in 1996 for their 30th anniversary tour and album entitled JustUs.1986 and 1987 was their 20thy anniversary tour which (for the most part)did not include Mike Nesmith.(he showed up at 1 concert).
Nesmith just looks really different ever since he droped the hat, got a full grown beard and gray. He needs to get the hat back. He looks too "normal". The chops he use to have were also a good killer look for him back in the day
I remember eagerly awaiting this and their '97 tour, and being pretty disappointed with both. Mike skipped out on the tour before they ever made it to the States, and he should've skipped out on the writing of this special. It was great seeing the four of them together, but that wore off pretty quickly, and the script/jokes were just not good (sorry, Nez!). The medley at the end, where they play four or five of their original hits, was probably the best part.
The Monkees should have made a follow up to the movie Head. Mike Nesmith wanted them to make another film in 1975 but they couldn't all agree on it. Too bad as Head is a cult classic and better than any of the Beatles movies (and I'm a fan of both groups).

Could you immagine if they did a show now. They are close to seventy. They could have Mike with a walker, and Davey with a hearing aid, and Peter with Arthritis, and Mickey with a new hip joint. It would be so funny.
HEAVY METAL KABUKI!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ROFL!!!! Oh gosh, I am a fan of the monkees and a fan of some heavy metal bands, and that comment just made me laugh so hard!
I love this! If these guys got together again, did a new show, and played new songs, I would be so happy. The old formula is even better now. The jokes move faster and the charm is greater than ever. Everybody still loves The Rolling Stones, so why not keep The Monkees going?
LOL, omg this is awesome! It's so funny, Peter going around talking about the different words for 'throw-up' aw, it's good to see the four of them together.
Never saw this special. This is cute! Hard to believe Mike actually wanted to do it cause it's not like he needed the money or anything. But it's cute anyway.

The formula for the potion:
1/4 cup Red Bull
1/4 cup syrup of ipecac

1 sparkler (lit)
1 minute of this schtick
Be a Monkee and have the nice folks in special effects put this concoction together. Warning! Not intended for actual consumption.

Not that i have anything againts Davy Jones , but why was he hired into a thrown together US band formulated to challenge the British lnvasion..
Jones had no music talent what so ever.Oh i forgot he was cute and English .
Made David Bowie change his name.
English band where kicking ass then. US bands had problems, even Beach Boys where starting to lose popularity.
Least Tolk and Nesmith could write and play music sometimes.
Mickey well he had charm for a drummer..

This special lacks the original zanniness, the fun, the energy, even the sound effects back then were better.
It reminds me of the Robin Williams of today versus Mork. I guess you can't go home again.
Nesmith wrote excellent songs back then as well.
But as far as throwing up, sorry the latest music wins that category hands down.
