  • LOL DESCRIPTION RULES

  • 8:40 - unborn dolphin

  • I can only laugh at all the ignorants who can seem to use their so called brain to figure out that there are billion other videos on the internet (not just youtube) where they can watch it with the original music. Nah, better invest the energy to rage over nonsesical shit. It's like they have no choice but to cry here. Also I laughed at the video. Good job entertaining me.

  • and man makes war in 2010 - leave us the option, some of us prefer it peacefully thank you...

  • People seek out these things for nostalgia. They know what they remember and what they liked. They seek so relive that pleasant feeling. When they find that they don't recognise the music or something, they rebel. It's no longer authentic. You should at least have the sense to realize that and expect it when you make changes to things that are ingrained in Americana. Remember what happened when Coke messed with success? Mass rebelion. They put it back. Be a hero - put the original music back.

  • @TheMrBlinx It's an interesting comparison but in coke's case there was no other option. People had to drink the new formula. This isn't the case here. There are plenty of copies of the original up and I'm not even ranked anywhere close to the top of the search list. If people want the original they can search it. This is here to stay. At this point I don't really care how badly it's being received it's bringing in way too many views to stop now.

  • @Breenguy "...it's bringing in way too many views to stop now."

Yeah, and I bet you think all your facebook "friends" are real friends, too, don't you? Duhhh. LOL

Rick Rolled got millions of hits, too, but 99% of them HATED HIM. Figure it out.

  • @TheMrBlinx Someone can't do basic math, and that's you. Rick Roll has 100,000 likes and 9000 dislikes, which means is only 9% not 99. /watch?v=tTXzQYom17c that should help you out next time.

  • @Breenguy Wrong. People did not have to drink the new coke, and they didn't, which is what forced coke to change back. Look it up.

  • @TheMrBlinx Haha man again with the reading issues. That was the only coke formula. The old style wasn't available. Therefore if anyone wanted to drink coke they'd have to drink the new formula. If they wanted coke. I'm just trying to say with this video the original is still out there to consume and watch.

  • @TheMrBlinx P.S. The thumbs down pretty much says it all, doesn't it, asshole? Fucking moron.

  • @TheMrBlinx hahah So much for replying respectfully. Man you're pissed. Oh where to begin. First off Rick Roll has 197,621 likes and 30,724 dislikes so you're a bit off with the 99% figure. And I just said I didn't care about the dislikes. Reading comprehension doesn't seem to be your strong suit. It's a bit of a leap to say because this video receives a lot of traffic that I think Facebook friends are real friends. That's oddly specific too. Are you sure that's not what you think?

  • @TheMrBlinx P.S. enjoy your short shorts fetish. Asshole?

  • i want to see 2010 now.

  • This might be the worst video on Youtube.

  • What a waste of time making this must have been, I feel sorry for anybody who has no other way to kill time

  • Dear Breenguy,

This is actually pretty awesome, i think of myself as a movie hipster, but i love it when something like this makes me smile. 2001 and Wrath of Khan are movies i grew up with, and while viewing this vid nice and baked, i discovered a new depth to the film... Well not really, but if you would like, i can explain the ending

  • @TheReidman22 Thank you! It's fine, I get the ending.

  • this is poo

  • @philip2421993 Nonsense it's a genius work that demonstrates through the brilliance of art humanity's feeble place in the cosmos and really just how little we know. All the while filled with beautiful imagery of rebirth and embryos among other things. You just don't understand it.

  • @Breenguy you absolute retard, I have seen the entire film, not this version where the soundtrack has been changed and probably appreciate it better than you . btw i like your other videos of you gaming on rome total war (you clearly have no life outside of your computer).

  • @philip2421993 last upload date: 5 months ago.

Get on my level! Come at me bro!

And Absolute retard? Couldn't my rating be downgraded to partial retard? Thanks for the views though.

  • @Breenguy I think anyone that takes a work of art like Space Odyssey and puts some crappy soundtrack over it deserves no mercy. I don't actually think you're a retard or that gaming is sad.

  • @philip2421993 Then why would you say so if you don't actually think that. Come on, I know there's a polarization effect when people are able to speak freely with anonymity but there's no reason to be a jerk while you're at it. This is just for fun and I really enjoy Red Dwarf and it's soundtrack, sue me. I don't see why I'm so vilified here. I enjoyed 2001 at some parts and absolutely love the visuals. I'd rather watch 2001 over other films for instance *cough* Jack and Jill

  • @Breenguy I thought you were making fun of the film. If you put this video out of a great artistic film with a different soundtrack people are bound to think that you are making a joke of it and dislike it. This may be just for fun for you, but for someone who is watching it, its an abhorrent mutation of a beautiful film.

  • @philip2421993 I actually was I'll be honest. I'm a bit hardened from this video constantly being flamed. I was making fun of it. Let's leave it at an agreement to disagree.

  • You're doing it wrong. This is why some people should not be allowed to watch movies.

  • The ability to screw with tradition is one of the hallmarks of our wonderful society. Why. we Russians have always prided ourselves on original and free thought. Wait a second. Nyet. Nyet. This has to be Russia. Eeees not? Never mind.

  • @friscolane

Nah, free thought has always prided itself with Russians! Does that even make sense??

  • hahah he even spelled "Odyssey" wrong!

  • @Breenguy I haven't even seen this video yet and I'm not even a 2001 fan to begin with (I saw it today on YouTube for the first time ever) but this uploader comes off as a total douchebag in the description, so I'm going to dislike it.

Way to be a prick Breenguy. Oh and you're the one coming off as a raging misanthrope here buddy.

  • @Tenraiden And that's supposed to upset me how exactly? Oh dear youtube user Tenraiden has declared me to be a prick on the internet! How can I face anyone again! Hahahah thanks for the view misanthrope.

  • @Tenraiden

Why do you keep calling snobbery misanthropy?

  • Comment removed

  • you are totaly insane and i think you have to consult so i suggere you two good doctors dr strangelove & dr mabuse... hope you'll be better very soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooon ! ¤¤¤¤¤¤

  • If this cut at 13:45, it would have been awesome. I lol'd.

  • Translation: "Waaaaaaah, I couldn't figure out the meaning to 2001, so I'm going to compare it to its trivial cousin, the "sequel" 2010, and declare anyone who disagrees with me a hipster!"

Never mind that if you knew anything about the history of 2001 you'd know that 2010 is not a sequel to the film but rather to the novel that was written concurrently by someone who interpreted Kubrick's film himself and has key differences in the plot and ending as a result.

  • @elschan You got all that from a video with some music overlayed onto it?

I just said 2010 was a good movie, not any of this other stuff. Not the greatest movie ever, just a movie. I could have said the Room was a better film and I bet you'd still be hitting me with this off topic nonsense.

  • XD

  • The random colors aren't art, it just seems like the director had a bad acid trip and was like "LETS MAKE A MOVIE ABOUT IT"

  • You just can't seem to understand that every movie doesn't have to operate in the dimensions of works like Back to the Future. You have no true argument against this movie. It's not lazy, and it's not an anti movie, What would you of told Kubrick to have done different? For what he aimed to do, he did a fantastic job in directing this work.

  • @TheGreatDecius I'm not sure why you keep bringing up back to the future. I have an argument, read what I've wrote. You have no true defense of this movie all you do is claim intellectually superiority or insist that its a work of genius. Why? Well because all the smart people say so.

  • @Breenguy Your argument is that this movie lacks an intention that everyone can agree on but so do several other pieces of art, I think of Tool and Shakespeare. 2001 tells of mankinds upbringing in the cosmos. The monolith is like the fruit of knowledge, and the dawn of man sequence relates to the Hal sequence. Knowledge is gained then the use of that knowledge to lead to the characters demise. similar to Hamlet actually... in 2001 Dave manages to survive though and then go into spess warp ( :

  • @Breenguy My reasoning is because the smart people say so ? ha ha you crack me up XD ; I actually love the themes of this movie, I love how every clip of this movie is a potential music video, and I love Hal 9000. Best computer in a sci fi I have ever seen. Why shouldn't this movie exist? if you could tell Stanley Kubrick to do something different, what would it be? For what Kubrick was trying to do, there is almost nothing wrong with this movie!

  • @TheGreatDecius If you want a movie that has a music video for every scene, go watch Suckerpunch. That's not an insult to you, it's a recommendation, I bought all of its soundtracks.

Back to the debate part: If you only barely enjoyed the movie, then why argue about it being amazing?

  • @Breenguy If you really don't know , Back to the future is what Confused Mathew compared 2001 to.I think you've almost quoted the guy a few times if I remember right.

  • I feel that you think the lack of clear intention in 2001 is an argument against it. Do you think the monolith is silly? Maybe the intention of the movie was to be like life and somewhat unexplainable? . The monolith is a variable, if it's god or aliens it honestly does matter. It's a bawx for one thing :D What examples would you point out that have no intention? you say in a comment that multiple interpretations points to the fact that the movie had no intention wtf? reasoning is that?

  • @TheGreatDecius Arthur C Clarke (Co-writer): "If you understand '2001' we failed. We wanted to raise far more questions than we answered." And yet I see videos and websites all claiming to have the end all solution to the film when there is none. Most of these interpretations don't even have similarities. If that's the case then for 2001 there was no writing and they expected you to do the writing for them. Maybe the movie is nothing to show nihilism in the cosmos. No genius here

  • @Breenguy Ever heard of a band called Tool? The lead singer Maynard tries to keep his lyrics so that they can be interpreted to and related to in different ways. Such is art, but what about any Shakespeare plays ?lol those can have so many interpretations, does that mean there is no intentional plot within the story?

  • @TheGreatDecius Don't insult shakespeare by grouping him with 2001. You know there's not plot in 2001. Linking that to plots like Richard III is insulting. The whole genius by association isn't helping this film in my eye at all.

  • @Breenguy Well first off I wasn't trying to argue that 2001 is as good as Shakespeare, you where arguing about the intention of art and how it somehow needs an exact meaning everyone agrees on. I was telling you this idea is a fallacy ( :

  • @TheGreatDecius You have a real hard-on for Shakespeare, naming yourself after one of the characters in Julius Caesar who didn't do shit the entire play really shows you understand his work. And Back To The Future is an amazing film, maybe you should make like a tree and shut the fuck up.

  • @primospartan No, actually Decius is my real last name. Back to the future is what confused Mathew compared this movie to... It's not that great of a sci fi movie, but I did't hate watching it I guess.

  • @Breenguy Your other argument seems to be that this film is somehow lazy, but there is so much effort in every shot of the film are you kidding? Every frame is a piece of artwork. 2001 is an hour and a half long painting of mankind's upbringing in the cosmos and it contemplates the meaning of consciousness. " Will it ever wrong to turn off an AI ?" for example. You are probably the kind of person who would take 5 minutes to walk through an art museum .

  • @TheGreatDecius Exactly, it's 'artwork' not a film. It's an anti film. I said the writing was lazy, not the film. What did Kubrick do to earn this little hill of beans you've made for him. "Every frame is a piece of artwork" Yeah Dave making screaming freeze frame faces during the stargate sequence is just so artistically genius. Nice assertion "You are probably the kind of person who would take 5 minutes to walk through an art museum" What does that have to do with my position?

  • @Breenguy "anti movie"....can you not have an original thought? (Confused Mathew grr!!!) 2001is a "motion picture" in the truest sense of the word, it's an 1:30 of images and sounds that tells the story of mankinds upbringing in the cosmos. "anti movie"? why because it doesn't have cheesy Back to the Future lines? This is a piece of art; not an entertainment piece. But I find art entertaining.

  • @TheGreatDecius I took the anti movie bit from you. If somebody has an idea and its better than my own I'm going to use it. If you were to borrow your life philosophy from one of the major philosophers I wouldn't hold that against you. When have I said I have a need for cheesy lines in a movie. It seems to me nobody ever can argue for this film outside of claiming to be intellectually superior or just insisting repeatedly its a work of art without evidence.

  • @Breenguy The warp sequence footage goes wonderfully with any sort of Pink Floyd, I for one am very glad it exists, Iv'e enjoyed it on many different occasions.

"You are probably the kind of person who would take 5 minutes to walk through an art museum" lol well am I right? ha ha.

  • @TheGreatDecius Yeah but if you did that you'd get comments complaining how you've ruined the 'painstaking genius.' I think you missed the point how long I take in art museums is irrelevant to the film. Here is typical 2001 fan arrogance by insisting that the other person is too much of a simpleton or something to that effect to enjoy the 'genius' of it. Is 5 minutes in an art museum a crime against humanity now? Even if that were true, who cares?

  • @Breenguy . "Is 5 minutes in an art museum a crime against humanity now? Even if that were true, who cares?" so is that an answer? who cares? ha ha who cares good response ( : " who cares" Tells me a bit about your character I think.....

  • @TheGreatDecius Enjoy your landscapes.

  • @Breenguy I judge movie scenes by the effect they have on me after watching all of the scenes and seeing if they work together. If you watched more then 2 minutes you would of found out the landscapes actually have a decisive point in the movie.

  • @TheGreatDecius And I just movies on a spectrum in comparison to all other films of the time. Lawrence of Arabia for instance, which was released around the same time is a FAR superior film. 'If you watched more then 2 minutes' another baseless assertion. I've seen the entire film, more than once also. Tell me the decisive point of the landscapes. And don't tell me it's art either that's just dodging and I've heard that before.

  • @Breenguy The landscape lacks a civilization built by human beings and the landscapes leave you with a feeling of emptiness(then they cut to monkeys) The dawn of man sequence is meant to be contrasted by the next sequence in space; so ultimately it creates an effect when you start seeing the space ships. What about when Pink Floyd or Tool take two or three minutes to get into a verse? I am assuming you hate that as well... watch?v=CvFN1p6dzNk but idk I guess.

  • Why do all movies need to be "entertainment pieces" based off of a few characters and the why does the "goodness" of the movie derive from only how much you can relate to one of these characters? 2001 is a 1:30 painting of mankind's position in the cosmos. Confused Mathew called it an "anti - movie" when it's actually one of the most profound "motion pictures" to ever exist. Why does every movie need to subscribe to what Confused Mathew thinks a movie should be? and bah 2010 is not better!? wtf?

  • @TheGreatDecius Profound for me at least, I have enjoyed this movie since i was small and my grandma showed it to me. Now days I constantly use clips of this "Motion Picture"to help me listen to music, every part of this movie is a potential music video. One day you may learn that this very artistic footage called 2001 has every right to exist :D

  • @TheGreatDecius 1.) Never said that. I've sung the praises of the visuals at other times. 2.) Citation needed. 3.) I Never said that. 4.) I can't tell if that's a question or not so I'm going to ignore it.

  • Lol, best troll.

  • lol red dwarf, i didnt see that coming. i fuckin loved that show.

  • "The Non Crappy Version" ??? this must be some sort of joke... this guy must be the most narrow minded jerk in the cosmos. does he not understand the concept of interpretation? the best cinema has the least exposition. what's the point of a film that doesn't make you think? i imagine this guy's favorite film is 17 Again or Big Mamma's House 2. if i were him i'd stay away from things i didn't know about and stick to the things i do understand...

  • @therealdjcammONUTUBE The funny thing is I've never even heard of those two films. I don't know where you're getting this crap. I make a video with some music and then all of the sudden I'm an enemy to the art of film. Where are you getting this stuff about exposition? What does that have to do with changed music?

  • @therealdjcammONUTUBE

There's a difference between vagueness anything can be read into, and something like Shutter Island or K-Pax (feel free to bring up better examples if you want) which carefully drops evidence for different possible interpretations.

Then of course there are movies which simply explore social and moral issues, and make you "think" with that alone.

That it either has to be a dumb comedy or a surreal mind-screw, is a false dichotomy.

  • @therealdjcammONUTUBE

That, and nothing is above poking fun at.

  • I just want to watch the end of the movie. You are an idiot. seriously. Fkn you tube is full of ads and idiots like you. I am so pissed off I am actually writing you. Jerk. Why not Rick roll us dick head. Have a shitty Christmas.

  • @zippogold Well aren't you a dumbass, first off you can't draw conclusions from titles I don't know what you were expecting when you clicked on "the non crappy version." Two you must be a pretty huge idiot to end up here with that kind of search I searched '2001: A space odyssey ending' on youtube and I'm at the very bottom. Not my fault you dumbasses can't find your way around a search. Thanks for the view. 'I am so pissed off I am actually writing you.' Yeah I 'write' you too.

  • idiot

  • I actually lol'd when he said "suck on that hipsters". Oh when people blindly throw words around. lulz. trollin' ftw?

  • I despise hipsters myself...

  • And by the way the movie makes a lot of sense and speaks on several levels about human progress but u need an IQ of atleast 90 to realize that I guess

  • @Martian77ep I liked your first comment better. I'd like to think 2001 hipsters could come up with more valid arguments than "HAH IM SMARTER DAN U" You should watch Confused Matthew's review of 2001. In any case I don't think the film is all that genius because all the 'explanations' I've read / watched are so entirely different. If there was a coordinated genius you'd think there would be more similarities in interpretation. I think personally they're just making it all up.

  • Loved the movie and at first I was slightly upset but then I soon realized it was pretty funny. People need to lighten up. As long as u can take the movie seriously and realize the goals kuberick had in making it then it's not like blasphemy to laugh

  • @Martian77ep Thank you. This was supposed to be lighthearted but people can't seem to take a joke at all.

  • I'm sorry but the original is "the non-crappy version." Yours is shit!

  • Thanks, Breenguy, for my laugh of the day. I'm a BIG fan of 2001, Star Trek, AND Red Dwarf, and I think that was just brilliant! Just when I think I'd got the thing figured out, it just got sillier. The incongruity of "Yakkity Sax" over the Kubrick visuals had me laughing so hard I was gasping for breath. Personally, I think Clarke would have "gotten it." :) Cheers!

  • This music is from one of the star trek movies. Forget which one.

  • Although I sincerely appreciate your creativity, the tone your music sets completely undermines the work that Stanley Kubrick put into this painstaking cinematic production. He chose his music purposefully, and your tone is offsetting it.

  • @ccaves6 That was the point, if you look at the ending objectively it's just silly. It loops the same 'generic mysterious chorus theme' for 15 minutes straight. Viewers are bound to get bored during that time. So when pointless colors are being flashed at you they can enjoy some quality space-themed music. I know I got tired of that EHEIHEIEHIEHIEHE HEIHEIHEIHEHEIHEEEEHEIEHIEHIEHIEHEIHEH WOOOOOOOO WHEHIEHEIHEHEIHE

  • @Breenguy No, YOU don't get the point. From the music you used to replace the original it's quite obvious that you are too young and/or immature to understand either classic films or music. And those are not pointless colors. The star gate journey is meant to be psychedelic and perhaps is not as easily understood if you weren't around in the late 1960s. And blairisawesome is right: you misspelled "Odyssey" – not the best start toward making your point, even if more of us did agree with it.

  • (@Breenguy) As for viewers becoming bored, Kubrick edited the psychedelic colors and the "generic mysterious chorus theme" (György Sándor Ligeti's electronically altered version of Aventures – as opposed to his Lux Aeterna, Requiem and Atmosphères used earlier in the film – all not generic) to fit the needs and the attention spans of the '60s, which were much longer than those of today's youth. The ending isn't silly viewed objectively from then, so your opinion is relatively subjective now.

  • (@Breenguy) [I removed and edited my previous comments, but accidentally out of order, so I fixed them.] Another thing you might consider is you'd run the risk of redoing portions of many of the late Stanley Kubrick's well-known/blockbuster films. Check out "A Clockwork Orange," "The Shining" and "Eyes Wide Shut," among others you can find, for unusual ("weird") content (plot, acting, visual and audio effects, music, etc.). The man was a definite maverick, but let's not change his work now.

  • @PolishMartian You are soooo annoying, do you really think BreenGuy is your film teacher that you have to write an essay about some movie that came out half a century ago?

  • @primospartan I may be annoying to you, but BreenGuy is definitely NOT my film teacher. I wrote an essay's worth of comments to dispute his points and and point out other films that Stanley Kubrick has made that he might wish to compare. As far as discussing "some movie that came out half a century ago" – it came out in April 1968, not yet 50 years ago – I was NOT the one who posted the contentious recent video in the first place, and the film is considered a classic, so its age is irrelevant.

  • @PolishMartian HOLY SHIT! I SENT MY PARTNER TO THE WRONG TIME PERIOD THEN! HE'S GONNA BE SO PISSED

  • @PolishMartian Who cares about this movie that a dinosaur shit out, if you want to see a REAL classic go see "The Room" by Tommy Wiseau.

  • @primospartan You are most likely displaying your youth now by calling "The Room" a REAL classic. It was an indie from 2003, I didn't see a lot of hype on it and don't know if/when it played in our local cinemas. Anyway, I didn't see it back then, but I saw scenes and buzz from it online today. It appears to be a CULT CLASSIC like "The Rocky Horror Picture Show" years ago and some kind of comedy, but I didn't see enough to verify that. Often a film isn't called a classic so quickly...(continued)

  • @PolishMartian You don't remember seeing it in theaters because they don't have theaters in Poland, because Poland isn't a real country.

  • @primospartan loll

  • @primospartan I said I didn't see or remember seeing "The Room," but I certainly saw the other films I've mentioned, because I was born and live in the U.S. I'm 2nd-generation Polish; Dad was born here, my grandparents and 3 aunts came from Poland, and we still have relatives there. Poland IS a real country and HAS real theaters, so learn or use some REAL geography, you immature, ignorant, racist troll. BTW, Mars isn't a real country – just a real planet – and has no known theaters. (Duh!)

  • i would have used dr who for the slit scan scene

  • @walsallmatt Wish I had thought of that.

  • Um, you misspelled 'Odyssey'. Carry on then.

  • @blairisawesome And he certainly DID carry on...

  • this is so funny

  • Daniel Odolsky sent me here and this is shit

  • @olivere8 Hahaha and there's nothing you can do about it. It's staying up. Thanks for watching!

  • @Breenguy You're right: I checked and there's no YouTube inappropriate content category in which to put this garbage, so you can keep this up here. However, with your egregiously arrogant attitude, you can expect many "dislikes"on your video. Since this is not a parody, it does a great injustice to Stanley Kubrick's classical work. I've watched this film many times, but wouldn't have with this ending music. olivere8 was RIGHT. The Non-Crappy Version? WRONG!! I watched VERY LITTLE of yours.

  • @PolishMartian I'm sorry this video upset you, and has stirred up so much controversy. I will be making a full video reply to you relatively soon to address your points, otherwise I really don't know what to say. Allegations regarding my maturity are a little bit too far wouldn't you say?

  • @Breenguy You'll notice that I'm not your only critic. I really don't mind if you try to put a better ending on the film that pleases you or others more or will crack people up, but you know that in order for people to take your video lightheartedly it really helps if they find it funny. Some commenters here do and some don't, so you have both fans and critics, a normal occurrence for artists. My problem was more with your outwardly critical comments and attitude than with the video itself.

  • @PolishMartian (@Breenguy) Well, I didn't really like the video either, but I might've ignored or let it pass if comments from you and others hadn't gotten me started on a rant. I'm sorry about that part, but even without me, there probably would've been some controversy from others. If you make a full video reply to address my points, I'll gladly welcome it. My maturity comments were about attitude, insufficient experience to judge classics or stereotypical generation gap frustration...sorry!

  • Comment removed

  • @olivere8 As I replied to Breenguy, your shit-sensing radar was quite accurate. Right now I can't even replay a little of Breenguy's version to reinforce my opinion, because after a while I received the following message: "Internet Explorer has closed this webpage to help protect your computer

A malfunctioning or malicious add-on has caused Internet Explorer to close this webpage." Gee, I wonder what caused the add-on malfunction: video/audio, critical comments, haughty replies or ...? LOL.

  • @theconqueror101 certainly better of the same generic suspenseful music playing for 20 minutes straight.
