Wow, you are epic fails at life. Both thermite and the magnesium ribbon required to ignite burn bright enough to cause permanent blindness, seeing as how you know, it's for WELDING.
Why do you assume medical causes for not knowing, and furthermore how do you know what he did/didn't wear over his eyes when you can't see them in the video?
You were saying he was an "epic fail at life" and shortly afterward that it "burned bright enough to cause permanent blindness", seeming to imply to me that you were thinking he was ruining his eyes doing the experiment, and of course, not using the right eye protection.
@WhereIsYourGod Hmm, that looks *just* like the spark coming out of The World Trade Center......no wait...911 has PROVEN that all we need is a little bit of kerosene to bring a building down to its footprint, and crumble it to dust. Ahhh. I just love science. Hey lets all get rich and follow that advice. Thanks to 911 we can start a demolition company with only jet fuel!!! Yay I'm rich!
no, thermite is powdered aluminum mixed with iron oxide (rust) i believe it is 2 parts of iron oside for every part of aluminum powder, it is very cheap (hardware store) and you can light it with magnesium (strip form)
If u people like burning things, why dont u all make use of your firelighting skills and become blacksmiths? Then you can play with molten metal all day.
when you light something with a lighter, the hottest point is the tip of the flame!!! c'mon if your lighting thermite, you should atleast know that!! lol
Probably unabomber style(grind a large quantity of aluminum with your favorite filing equipment. Hours of fun for the whole family(use respirator and ventilate well)). Iron(III)oxide is a popular pigment and you should be able to buy large quantities of that without trouble.
We used to get it from the band saw shavings where we cut circles out sheet metal. I'm sure you can get it from most machine shops or a ton of other places.
P.S. Please be careful, do your research, and stand far far away.
Hey, does anyone know why I can't find my own video when I search in youtube? it's called "2 lbs of thermite melting copper (green glow)" but when I search for it, I get nothing.
Cool, I did the same thing but with copper bb's and it glows bright green! Looks like nuclear waste or something. Check it out on my page under the videos I have posted.
Very nice, especially for the close up of the molten metal. There should be more stuff like this on YouTube, rather than the average "OMIGOD we made a bomb out of disassembled fireworks" videos made by 12-year-olds.
Thats actually Al2O3, but that is molten copper along with the iron. Some thermite mixtures use Cupric Oxide and aluminum producing copper and aluminum oxide.
chuck norris doesnt need thermite to burn a copper tube

A Florida engineer, Jonathan Cole, recently demonstrated how to use packaged thermite to cut steel girders, box columns, and bolts. See my video:

thermite is made of ammonium nitrate and copper powder. i am not responsible for what you do with this info. have fun :)
codydean10 2 years ago
No the best thermite is Fe2O3 (iron oxide) and aluminium metal powder.

danbison 3 years ago
can you light it with a sparkerler?
Ipwn3dI0 3 years ago
yes, but it's much more dangerous than magnesium, because even one spark hitting the thermite will set it off. (sparklers are very hot!)
skyseeker901 3 years ago 2
Sparklers are horrible to use for fuses. A stray spark can easily set off you payload pre-maturely.
Peter7Paul 3 years ago
they can? well thats me not using them again.. lol
Ipwn3dI0 3 years ago
A spark from a sparkler will never light thermite..

It was a reply to someone saying sparks from sparklers were dangerous.

they hurt like hell if thats what you mean
Dmajorproductions 3 years ago
if its a magnesium sparkler then yes it will
Pobert12321 2 years ago
yes, that is a common method to start thermite reactions, since sparklers use magnesium, which is what is usually used to light it.

i found that if u scrunch aluminum foil up put it in 1/4 glass of water and use bar mixer u get nice fine granules pour in coffee filter wait to dry.

Not all molten copper. Al + Fe203 -> AlO3 + Fe
Or something like that (i dont feel like balancing it). Anyway the point is thats probably mostly molten iron.
sandcrab132 5 years ago
your right but the thermite just melted the crap out of the copper, when it cooled you could defnitly see a lot of copper in it
