To play in the B Mixolydian Mode, you play the E Ionian Scale against a backing of B (preferably B7).

If you compare the Mixolydian mode to the Ionian (Major) Mode, the Mixolydian has a flat (minor/diminished) seventh.

So if B Major is B C♯ D♯ E F♯ G♯ A♯ B,

B Mixolydian is B C♯ D♯ E F♯ G♯ A B.

Or comparing it to the E Major scale: E F♯ G♯ A B C♯ D♯ E

You then play the B Mixolydian scale as: B C♯ D♯ E F♯ G♯ A B

Is that any clearer at all?

@JacoTheSkunk Basically, if you start in E Ionian (Major), then use the notes from that scale, but take the fifth (B) as the root note, you are playing in the B Mixolydian mode. In other words, E Ionian and B Mixolydian are effectively the same scale, just starting from a different note.

The chord being played by the rest of the band changes the enharmonically correct name for the scale. :)

@ArtificialFlavaFTB2 You can get an Ibanez RG7321 which is affordable but it's not that good of a 7 string. You're better off finding one above $600. Anything under $600 in Ibanez in my opinion is pure shit.
