Your right. It was when Rory and Dean had just broekn up and she realized how much she was missing Max. This song was in Season 1: "The Break - Up: Part 2"

@Gwenster11 It is when Lorelai was dating Max. I fell in love with this song quickly. I am a GG-aholic. I have seen every episode a minimum of 4 times. I watch it on ABC Family as they run it from start to finish. I also watch it on SOAP network on the weekends.
