its cool to see they arent so professional in the sense of they just sit around, do whatever, and if they enjoy it they voice their opinion. and they dont use all this musical terminology, its all just normal.
This is real musiccc, not the crap out there today. This band is actually together, even after LeRoi passed (RIP LeRoi, you were a good man). They stuck and made AWESOME music, that's what gives me the sense of passion to this bandd.
its so sweet to see the basics of how the band writes music... a few guys sitting around throwing out ideas and different rifs... like when dave just came up with the intro for why i am... this is the formula for writing great music
I think music has taken such a wrong turn these days. One of the reasons that I think this is the best band out there is the pure chemistry of the guys behind it making the music. Just watching them Jam without lyrics for 20 minutes in concert is mesmerizing. Can't say the same for many bands out there.

boyd just needs to quit the band at this point: in ever interview he does now he subtled cuts on the everyday session, plus he gets screwed over on the new album all for the benefit of tim reynolds, the horn duded, and the keyboard on my baby blue. the dude is a non-entity in dave's eyes and he is obviously bitter.
Shotgun. Search dmb 'Shotgun' it's just the musical version of it. Same progressions. What you hear at the beginning of the 'Scenes of Big Whiskey dvd' is like the musical 'jam' section of the song. They could have been using it to warm up or alter it a bit. We know they've been known to do that on several songs (that's why we buy those same songs performed 'live' again and again cause we like the many renditions).
he'd have to change some chords for sure to make it work out....sounds good on his stratocaster but that simple power chord would fit to will on an acoustic
When I watch this I'm glad that DMB has evloved through countless years, but still maintain that love for music that they had in the beginning. Also i like how even though they all look older, I like how Carter still rockkin the jeresys and popping the bubblegum!!!!!
Wow. This is truly an incredible video that we will only come to appreciate more as time goes on. I don't remember ever getting this intimate of a glimpse into the raw song-writing processes of DMB. Incredible is an understatement.
The more sneak-peak type things I see and hear, the more I think that this album may turn out to be their best to date.
Also, for those who have debated the type of guitar Dave plays for Sister and Stay or Leave, this video (4:24) proves it's a Taylor GS7.
Hopefully it is great man...but i dont think it can top Before These Crowded Streets...the musical arrangements and lyrics in that album to me makes it their number 1 imho...what do you think?
BTCS and Crash are tied for best in my book, but I have a feeling it will be difficult to compare those two with Big Whiskey because of how different the sounds, emotions, and recording techniques will be. They have evolved substantially since the late 90's.
Perhaps "best to date" is me getting a bit carried away, but I certainly hope it will be on par with the aforementioned masterpieces.
i can definitely relate on getting carried away...its easy to do with this band, i wish for the best as well and definitely hard to compare sounds and emotions...i guess i would compare the approach to the making of the albums, of course this new one being heavily influenced by LeRoi, but i cant say im a big fan of his new song Funny How it Is, i like it but i cant compare it but thats just me
You know what? It's ok for them to make albums that are not as good as BTCS. IMO that record can not be touched but it doesn't mean they still can't make some good ass music and it looks like they're going to do that with Big Whiskey.
i definitely get what your saying..i guess i felt that way because songs such as "idea of you" "shotgun" "granny" are floating around those songs i could imagine them being on the BTCS album..hopefully you understand what i mean...but your right..just because its not BTCS caliber doesnt make it bad music
BTCS was absolutely fantastic. on big whiskey i did find that he went back to a few of his old playing styles. if you listen to the song "sister" and then off of big whiskey "my baby blue" they sound almost exactly the same. my theory is that he was going for something like "#36" and "everyday" where theyre like the same song and he combines them when he plays live. personally my favorites off this album are "why i am" "Lying in the hands of god" and "You and Me". DMB Forever!
With DMB music I move with the songs in terms of 'mood'. I love "Lying In The Hands of God. Absolutely love it. Next month, I'll probably have another favorite that replaces it but for now, ...in the Hands of God does it for me. It's the BOMB!

its the part in why i am that goes "There's the lose and the win of the world, wrong and right us and them of the world....."
MusicIhave 2 years ago
it's a precursor to what would become the "it's the you and me of the world" part of Why I Am.
JammasterF 2 years ago
its "Why I Am." It sounds funny because the actual song is used with a stratocaster and not an acoustic guitar.
