Halber Mensch is one of my fave albums of all time, and I think it's the only non-English speaking album I can say that about! I have it on CD though not on LP/record.
@autumndiver93 A song about how you shared a love and are now gone from each others' lives? I kid, but, uhhh.. have you seen the nancy sinatra / lee hazelwood original?
This song introduced me to EN, btw, wayyy back in the 80s. Loved 'em ever since.
I like your thoughts on this song, but I disagree. There is heart in this song, in the same way a murder can be passionate. For me the song seems forlorn and fondly remembered moments, though by no means perfect or wholesome.
But, at the same time, I like the notion of the hunger aspect. I would have never thought of that, Thank you!
@gothdeer I see love as having three levels - head, heart and groin. If you can find someone who meets you on all three levels, hold on for dear life & never let them go. This song, at least to me, is the groin level at its height. Ravenous prowling of streets day and night...then again, maybe it's all groin all the time with me these days. But yes, the young woman sharED is forlorn. Thank you for pointing that out to me. I rarely look for sentiment in EN but maybe I should dig a wee bit deeper.
I always think that he is singing this about somebody he is bitter about now, like it would have sounded different when he first wrote it and now it's just a painful song. I fucking love it ! Heard it live a few months ago.

No, this is not better than the original. It doesn't have the tension and interplay that occured between Nancy and Lee. It's heartless krautrock and doesn't have the emotion experienced between a young woman and older man. Some songs shouldn't be remade out of the genre in which they were originally recorded.
Since when is opinion confused with "narrow-midned" [sic]? Have you ever heard the original version? Listen and compare - this version is cold and heartless. And tuneless. But then again, it's my opinion - narrow-mdned as it is.
Yeah I agree you're entitled to your opinion, though I have to disagree about this version being heartless...Though it' is a bit cold but I like that aspect of it.
I listened for myself just before I replied to you and I thought there was more depth and a completely different meaning behind Neubauten's version. But then perhaps I am narrow-minded when it comes to appreciating the original.
omg I love this song - !!!! I totally grew up with industrial music - Laibach is next- well after fuerio, & ZNS, & also some Cyberaktif :D omg I adore Blixa Bargeld!
I've loved this song for over 20 years. It was the 1st one I heard from EN, and was shocked to hear all the German when I started buying the CDs. I first heard the Sinata/Hazelwood version about 10 years ago. I was about 13 when I switched from "top 40" to goth/industrial back in the early 80s. Now I chat with some of the original members of Alien Sex Fiend on Facebook!!
I am waiting for a really good live "Kalte Sterne"...it has the same type of drive as this, the Sehnsucht that permeates most of Blixa's creations. I'd love to see a good quality cover of Emmerich's cover.
yeah i was shocked when i learned this.i thought they would be "above" cover tunes.this is a good song.i actually dont like covers but i think this is a way better version hands down.
Τhis is pure ...EPICNESS.

Heartless? Perhaps. However, heart is not what you should look for in this song. This song is not about heart. It's about stomach. It's hunger.
