Many factors determine the smoothness of the landing. This was by no means a heavy landing. Sometimes during gusty conditions a good landing is a firm one in the touchdown markings.
This to be honest wasn't a "bad" landing. Sometimes you have to do a short final because of a close incoming aircraft behind. That's when you touch down as soon as possible and reverse more aggressively. From my experience in reality you use short finals quite often on busy airports, while on FS, some "experts" do not even know what short final means...
Not so bad...I had a hard landing too,a couple of days ago :) To make the things worst wind was calm ...i just lost my speed and slammed 737 into the runway,it was awful man,it was my first time i did that ....but on the way back i had headwind of 7kts and crosswind of 15kts and my landing was just fine ....so it can happen to anybody.Anytime i see that my speed is dropping it just reminds me on that day,so just POWER POWER POWER that's the way to fly big jet...don't play with the power :)))
If this is the hardest landing you've ever experienced then I guess you haven't been in that many flights.
I am not a pilot , so can a real pilot confirm this: am I wrong at noticing that he is not using full flaps, so he is going in a bit fast, to compensate for the weather?
I'm not criticizing this dudes landing at all, but I'm sick of people using the old cliche that any landing you walk away from is a good landing...tell the guys who porpoise down the strip, collapse their nose gear, causing thousands of dollars in damage and humiliatingly need to have a beautiful little plane towed away that any landing you walk away from is a good one...I'm not sure they'll agree with you
@737Pilot122 it is indeed possible that he didn´t flare as much as usually but that does not mean he didn´t flare at all. Of course you must flare a bit you can´t just fly the aircraft in to the runway, at least not with an aircraft of this size. I have to admit that i´m not flying boeing aircraft myself at all (i´m flying a330´s) but as a pilot I do know some things believe me!
@737Pilot122 of course he flared only because you are to blind to see. Pilots have experience of many many hours and of course they all landed hundreds of times. Maybe you trie to look a little bit closer next time!!
@Benjemen85 No, he/she did not, flaring consists of leveling off and then transitioning to a climb attitude as the speed reduses close to stall speed and gently touches down, in this case the pilot reduced the decent bu did not stop it, that is concidered flying it in to the runway, this would have resulted in bouncing if there were not shocks on the landing gear and spoilers to press the plane down.
Wow that wasnt even that bad, i would consider it much lighter than some landings, and definately was a good landing considering the fact the pilot did not total the plane.
@144flyer01 I agree with you I have over 5000 hours experience and I experience hard landings myselfe sometimes! Besides sometimes landing hard is better because 20-30ft over the ground is the worst wind so pushing it down hard will keep you lined up the runway in a better way. so to all who are criticize this pilot keep in mind to not rate a pilot on how hard he is landing just look at the weather outside
@737Pilot122 lmao wow im amazed how you a STUDENT PILOT actually has the audacity to actually criticize the landing of a professional airline pilot blows my mind lol
@xXGETR0CKEDxX First of all, I know exactly what happened because I have done it, second, I have flown a full motion level d simulator so I know what it is like, and third, who do you think you are? (oh and "lmao wow...lol" tacked on somewhere in there)
@737Pilot122 Okay you have done it I have done it she has done it he has done it we all have done it ... every pilot has a landing that gets away from them once in a while. 2nd you dont know whats its like that home built 737NG simulator you have in your living room doesnt count as a full motion sim 3rd you have no idea the factors that were in play with this video example WX or maybe this was the FO's first leg in this aircraft you have no idea.. im closer to flying a 737 than you will ever be
@xXGETR0CKEDxX You don't know anything about me so don't tell me about my life, also when the simulator is suspended on hydraulics and it moves when you fly it I think it is full motion, and no, I don't know what the conditions were like, all I said was that the pilot needs to flare more and better luck next time, and by the way flying is supposed to be about passion and enjoyment so if you are going to fly wih an airline you will not be happy if you think it is about being better than everyone
it wasn´t such a hard landing i mean landing at rwy 29 in vienna isn´t that easy beacause you have to cross rwy 16/34 and you very often have a bad wind situation!
LOOOOL, where was a hard landing? Look for the weather situation around. Pretty normal. Sometimes you can get it smoother. The last 30-50 feet over runway could be tricky with wind.
@FSXA321 The pilots were still in the landing zone by far, the only thing landing 20 feet in front of the marks does, is give the aircraft more runway to slow down on. They are not bad pilots at all, alot of pilots land past the marks and not even in the Touchdown zone.
Such a shame these videoclips can't do the actual experience any justice. I remember one particularly bad landing which made people grab the headrests of the seat ahead of them in panic. The pilot touched down at the end of the runway and then applied the brakes and reversed the engines far too hard. Like sitting in a car in which somebody brakes violently.
@TREYinGLAMIS past tense...shat?shitted?shirt aah i dont freaking know but this pampered little spoiled brat has no clue ID LOVE to see him try to land a plane nice and soft EVERY time DAMN!
You can always tell who is a real pilot on youtube. The trick is; real pilots never criticize the landings of other pilots. B/c bad landings happen to everyone. Besides most of the pilots on youtube are fairly attuned to the fact that the pilots flying these aircraft have hours and experience that most can only dream of achieving. Just a warning to the next flight sim fanatic who tries to critique a professional.
@144flyer01 well said dude !! and the other frustration with real pilots is when theres delay, its even more darn irritating for the pilots plus cabin crew then for the pax. a perspective u rarely hear, but true ! SO DEAL WITH THE FRUSTRATION LANDINGS YOU DARN PAX haha
@144flyer01 Its true. Im a sim pilot but I never criticize real pilots landings. Half the idiots who fly sims don't understand the fact that landing in FSX is so much extremely easier than doing it in real life. Any landing you can walk away from is a good one. =]
That didnt actually seem that hard to be honest. I had one land after flying (if that'd be the correct word) through -20kt of windshear and it hit the ground -2.5g which is hard. the aircraft a 737-800 had the Hard landing inspection Phase 1 without anything being found. Guess it was a lucky plane
looks like a hrader landing than it probably was. but then what do you expect. things can happen when its you and one other controlling a huge passenger jet day after day like that, weather didnt look too promising to start. could be wind making it more difficult. still alive. thats all that counts
Some pilots don't have a feeling for touchdown. Touchdown like this one can seriously damage and even break the landing gear. It happens sometimes and people get killed.
i really dont understand why peole like you feel obligated to speak on things they know nothing about this was not a hard landing and in no way shape of form was danger of causing damage to the gear or causing harm to anyone on board

@birddoggarton no im just saying that most people who are pilots are pilots because they love flying, to me it seems ure not that interested in Aviation
That landing was fine. I don't see what was so "Very Hard" about it..
As for the spoilers, they deployed just as their supposed to - automatically once the wheels touch (provided they are armed before touchdown, which they clearly were).
very true, sometimes the crosswind is so brutal you just want to get the wheels down before the thing floats who knows where. But you still shouldn't exceed 500 fpm. I don't think they did, but they were close. Even a 2 or 300fpm drop is going to be messy.
That Landing is normal, because the 737 like here in the video had to crack down harder then otherwise it will jump up. Believe my, a friend is a real 737-800NG Pilot ;)
But there is also a nice little joke:
A good landing is, when you can walk away by yourself. But a very good landing is, when you can use the plane for the next time!
So don't be afraid or something but this was a really normal landing! Believe me I've made a very harder landing on myself. I thought the gear would broke!
Agreed Thompoux - I see every landing that the passengers and crew are safe is a good landing - it may have been a little rough, but at least the plane is intact.
That as mearly a firm landing. when i landed in malaga a few years back that was a hard landing it hit so hard and bounced back up and hit hard again. i see this as a decent landing and the spain landing as a shit one.
dude don't come on here talking shit like a little bitch.....DUH HE PUT IT INTO IDLE.......TOO SOON....what the fuck is your prob......reply to jamiefaggetwin.
we had really bad landing at Luton airport in England. i would say it was really good compared to one we had. but as someone said any landing you survive is a good one :)
i flu into this airport a couple of times i rember one time we landed so fucking hard the over head bins flu open the plane landed kinda sideways i waz scared shitless i though we were gona roll over but as we got i relized how windy it was i guess it waz crosswinds
I think the pilot didn't want to hold the plane off for a smooth touchdown. If you hold the plane off, you're obviously going to use more runway. Its significant sometimes...
@badmattam Correction. Every landing you walk away from is a SUCCESSFUL landing. For example, If a bird gets struck and goes into the engine, landing it with one enginethat is a good landing
there are hard landings and soft landings...it's extremely difficult to make something smooth when you're moving at 140 mph. It happens...could be the wx or the pilot, but unless you were in the cockpit you won't know
actually you can make a smooth landing,140 KT's are not so much in that point of the flight. Its just about experience, manage of the controls, and basically how much you take care of the landing. You wanna be the cool guy?then make it smooth. You wanna be standard?then make it standard which sometimes may result "hard to the pax" .Both of the ways must be done as long as you dont go beyond touch down zone.
i disagree with these armchair pilots saying it was a "normal" landing. The plane obviously sank and touchdown short of the TDZ creating definitley an average-hard touchdown. The approach was fine most likely.
Is there something not normal in this landing? Normal flare, landing in the touchdown zone and no bumps... I just hate this stupid pax.... next time switch off the camera...
there is just written "hard landing" because he want to get some views.. crap quality and normal landing, this sound is always the same during touchdown.
Lots of people who go bull sh*ting about this airline and it's fleet are mostly wrong about the aircraft. These are the lastest NG 737's there capable of going From manchester to Greece and median haul flights (2-7hours). About half of there fleet does domestic routes which take around 30-80 mins. And remember They'll be flighing at low altitutes which decreases stress. I do agree how they treat there crew people now days want central heating in there tents for christ sake, stop bloody moaning!
that was a pretty decent landing. obviously you haven't had a rough one...:)

That landing was fine. I don't see what was so "Very Hard" about it..
As for the spoilers, they deployed just as their supposed to - automatically once the wheels touch (provided they are armed before touchdown, which they clearly were).
I think it was a fine landing.
drmalikai 2 years ago
pilots try to just put the plane on the ground not always going or the best soft touchdown
futureb737pilot 2 years ago
very true, sometimes the crosswind is so brutal you just want to get the wheels down before the thing floats who knows where. But you still shouldn't exceed 500 fpm. I don't think they did, but they were close. Even a 2 or 300fpm drop is going to be messy.

I've seen worse than this puny landing

looks like a pulled it idle too soon, almost like there was no flare

That Landing is normal, because the 737 like here in the video had to crack down harder then otherwise it will jump up. Believe my, a friend is a real 737-800NG Pilot ;)
But there is also a nice little joke:
A good landing is, when you can walk away by yourself. But a very good landing is, when you can use the plane for the next time!
So don't be afraid or something but this was a really normal landing! Believe me I've made a very harder landing on myself. I thought the gear would broke!

Skyeurope? If yes, I was there!

Agreed Thompoux - I see every landing that the passengers and crew are safe is a good landing - it may have been a little rough, but at least the plane is intact.
shakenama 2 years ago
At least the piot brought every passengers safe to the ground...
Thompoux 2 years ago 3
That as mearly a firm landing. when i landed in malaga a few years back that was a hard landing it hit so hard and bounced back up and hit hard again. i see this as a decent landing and the spain landing as a shit one.

I tell you what, "hard" is when the oxygen masks from above fall out at touchdown.
warminator 2 years ago 2
Die Landung muss man spüren !! Wenn sie zu sanft ist könnte das Flugzeug noch mal abheben !! So hart wahr die gar nicht hab schon härtere gehabt
Watzinator1 2 years ago
I think the pilot didn't want to hold the plane off for a smooth touchdown. If you hold the plane off, you're obviously going to use more runway. Its significant sometimes...

any landing that you walk away from is a good landing!!

@badmattam So I guess if you walk away from a landing with a fractured skull it's a good landing... Nice!

@badmattam even if you land at the wrong airport? lol

I'd prefer landing where you can use the plane again afterwards :)
AGrandt 1 year ago
@badmattam any landing that you can walk away from is a good landing, if you can reuse the plane, its a great landing
charpsteve36 1 year ago
@charpsteve36 Haha...Well said! Yes that would definately be a bonus lol
badmattam 1 year ago
@badmattam Correction. Every landing you walk away from is a SUCCESSFUL landing. For example, If a bird gets struck and goes into the engine, landing it with one enginethat is a good landing
MrKillkivey 1 year ago
there are hard landings and soft landings...it's extremely difficult to make something smooth when you're moving at 140 mph. It happens...could be the wx or the pilot, but unless you were in the cockpit you won't know
ajentjbob101 2 years ago 2
actually you can make a smooth landing,140 KT's are not so much in that point of the flight.

Bizija123 2 years ago
a soft landing doesn't mean every thing, a soft landing can be on the middle of the runway and a very bad approach
FsFreako 2 years ago
Is there something not normal in this landing? Normal flare, landing in the touchdown zone and no bumps... I just hate this stupid pax.... next time switch off the camera...
amsteixeira9 2 years ago
there is just written "hard landing" because he want to get some views.. crap quality and normal landing, this sound is always the same during touchdown.
herriho 2 years ago
Lots of people who go bull sh*ting about this airline and it's fleet are mostly wrong about the aircraft. These are the lastest NG 737's there capable of going From manchester to Greece and median haul flights (2-7hours). About half of there fleet does domestic routes which take around 30-80 mins. And remember They'll be flighing at low altitutes which decreases stress. I do agree how they treat there crew people now days want central heating in there tents for christ sake, stop bloody moaning!
wowky07 2 years ago
normal for a 737
