Truly superb example of 'drum & bass', reminds you why they called it that in the 1st place, these days might aswell call it 'synth & bass' theres no drumz...
To quote Bailey when he was interviewing Dom & Roland > is the the king of dark, some come close & SD at their peak during this time were masters but Dom can still rinse out a ruff track today & compare that with SDs current output & Doms still the king, most artists have a peak & then go weak, look at Dillinja, Photek im not feeling there recent output much since the dawn of Y2K, Paradox, Bizzy B, Equinox, Scientific Wax, Subtle Audio & Inperspective is wheres the beats are at
i dunno. maybe its me. doms latest album proves what you said but i still had a tuff time listening thru the whole thing. i dont think photek n dillinja are as bad as most think, but thats a minority view, i know. even the good new shit comes on like gangbusters n then gets into a dull sameness after a minute. could be me. dont seem very memorable or somethin compared 2 the 90s shit. too predictable or something.
Well the 90s for sure is the golden period for Jungle/DnB it was a new sound but advancements in technology these days allows you to edit beats & produce tracks without the need for all that expensive hardware, also you can get the music heard via Mp3s without having to spend £600 on pressing 500 vinyls. Tunes like Breakage's vip mix of Equinox's Acid Rain could not have been made in the 90s those Amen edits are chopped within fractions of a second using the latest software.
I also prefer the output of the 90s for sure & 80% of DnB today (& music in general) im not feeling but if you dig beneath the surface you will still find the dark beats from the labels & by the artists I mentioned below. Happy New Year & heres to Y20K DnB, I wonder what our opnions will be in another 10 years?
Good call man, it most definitely is sampled from AFX or they found a gem of a synth that AFX used, some real evil shit here though, just a terrifying Drop. It's really too bad the dark, drum-funk influences didn't flourish like they should have :(
man ... everybody knows the pioneering days of dark jungle / dnb were the best . All this new stuff is all content emphasised and with less soul and sound !!
I was always on the hunt for new tunes n cds ... the depth n qaulity was unreal , now i find dubstep / 4''n'bass has the feel . I find dnb to hav changed in " tone" ... which is upsetting my ear lol .
i agree! the most creative time. the whole world was blown away by British creativity and technical prowess. we had the skills, the soul and no rules. pure gold and that was the period. never came close again unless there is a new upsurge in technology that we can exploit in the same way with soul.
yeah man! the original! w/web of sin on tha flipside! classic darkness! all u clownheads need a history lesson, so start takin notes here! thnx arcon2!
This one, and also 'Love & Hate'.. Two masterpieces.

very dark.

Probably the best ever released under SD!
Such a dark and deep track!!! Uhh!
The other of course is Feel my dreams under Mirage!
And the other straight after is Call and Response (again Source Direct)!
Well they were and still are truly respected on the dark drum scene!
yeah even after fuckup-breakup damn that suck!
