  • you've done your nut in that costume.

  • Thank you for bringing us awesome songs from that age.

  • you play like an angel

your music is in my heart, beautiful

we are glad to see you on our HANG & HARP channel:

    ciferencesymphony

    thanx CIFERENCE-SYMPHONY

  • @15milesintsnow It was very familiar to me too. According to the version I know, it is an 'estampie' dance (YouTube search: Gryphon "Estampie"), but it doesn't have a title.

  • very beautifl muic thanks :)

  • What's the song called? I recognise the tune but can't think of the name!

  • @15milesintsnow Hello, its title is '13th Century English Dance' simple as that.

  • @15milesintsnow i know it as the english estompie

  • the music is so fresh, beautiful~

  • My favourite part of the video is when the random annotation box pops up. Apart from the harp of course.

  • Ohh... I wish I was born in the medieval times. I guess we are born where we are most needed, I guess. ;)

  • Was I the only one that felt the urge to clap at the end? :D

  • You are AWESOME.

I always wanted to learn to play the harp when I was little. You've rekindled my interest in it. =] I'm afraid I'm a bit too old to learn something like that, though.

  • True enough, the harp technique is not 'easy' and you need a qualified teacher, but beginner harp sounds a lot better than beginner, say, violin! Sarah is LRAM LGSM

  • Well done! A beautiful song of days long gone and mostly forgotten. Back to an age where this song was top of the pops and many historical men & women of fame and disputable legend listened and danced too.

  • XD makes want 2 get up and dance\twirl around my house

  • @pyroticben Thats news to me, suspect that title may have been used as part of a production and is probably made-up.

  • I luv u harp lady ^^"

  • Whatever melody she plays with her left hand fits exactly to the main melody.

  • Lovely.

  • Well played!!! I much enjoyed this piece. You're sooo lucky to live in the U.K. cos it has so much history and great music to come from there. Must be the weather?!

  • Fantastic

  • So, the piece is titled 'A 13th century dance'? where is it from? found where? do we have any idea of steps?

  • @opajohann I took this tune from 'Medieval dance collection' edited by Greg Lewin, the source is GB-Ob Douce 139, f5v early Bodleian music pl.7. It is quite well known in UK. You would have to ask a dance expert about the steps, I suspect the exact steps are unknown but various dance experts have reconstructed medieval dances from illustrations in manuscripts, illuminations and paintings etc

  • @phantombagpiper Now, that sounds like an ideal job.

    "What do you do?"

    "I'm a medieval dance reconstructionist."

"Wow, I bet that's really hard! You must have studied a lot to do that."

"Yes indeed; I have a doctorate."

"What do you do when you can't figure it out?"

"I totally wing it, dude! Everyone who knows better has been dead for thousands of years!"

  • WONDERFUL!!!! I LOVE THIS MUSIC, THE HARP, AND ALL REFERING TO THE MIDDLE AGES...THANKS FOR SHARING THIS WITH ALL OF US !!!

  • where's my frothing ale?

  • @bordaz1 In ye old liquor store.

  • ure music playing skills are great but why would u want to live in that era lol love your harp sound and technique though

  • Hail the Empire!!!

Long live our past Culture, Race, Pride & Class.

  • @vMysteriousOnev1 calm down goebbels

  • You play quite well. I enjoyed this. thank you for posting this......

  • Do you tune in temperaments from the medieval period? It sounds for me as very modern temperament :P More modern than Bach's "well tempered ". Nice playing though :)

  • @KarlAmade 'temperament' rules do not apply to harps as, unlike fixed tuning instruments e.g.keyboards, they can be tuned by their players anytime, to any key, mode or scale the harpist requires. With only 29 strings available, I tuned the harp here most appropriately for the piece I was playing, and often change tunings accordingly.

  • gooo ETHIL

  • english people are gay

  • @yitzchak13 The original word gay meant light hearted,so thanks for the compliment lad! English and proud.

  • @seaxwielder hes just a twat I think he isnt even jewish and just set up that channel to promote the hatred of jews. He doesnt have a good thing to say about anybody. Typical black propaganda by a looser.

  • @yitzchak13 True, as evident from there gay as hell sounding vile accents

  • @GLORD99092 As in 'East Enders' you mean?Greetings Seonidh,thanks mate,I agree with your comments.Don't worry it's all water off a duck's back !

  • @Aviv52 You're too late. John Renbourn arranged this for steel-string guitar over 20 years ago. If you google "John Renbourn English Dance" you'll find, among other things, this: watch?v=E_U4Jsp3nv0

  • Great vid! I have the same harp too, is it possible to frett it to get the accidentals as ive tryed every technique mentioned and i just get a dull thud? also can you recomend some good mediaeval/renaissance music books for harp and a decent place to get period costumes from. I s that music in a book at all?

  • Great!

Gryphon had their own arrangement of the tune, in their album "Gryphon", under the name "Estampie". Go check it.

  • i would pay her to sit in my room at night and play that so i could sleep

  • Love it .. truely LOVE IT ...

  • Interesting droning effect - sounds like bagpipe accompaniment. Not to reference your screenname or anything. :P Lovely playing!

  • Wow ! Thank you.

  • nice!

  • esa cancion te hace pensar por lo que no eres

  • A wonderful piece of music! Thank you for uploading the same. I would love to hear more such compositions. It would be good if you could let me know how I can get them.

  • That was AWSOME.

  • I have not heard this tune in many years. Thank you for uploading.

  • bravo !

  • Hermoso. *****

  • very nice, you music and delicate sound much.

  • @BGLart, there's nothing wrong with using youtube to advertise such beautiful classical music, and you can watch and listen to it for free not like most ('popular') music which is uploaded illegally. As for capitalism, most classical musicians can only make enough money to enjoy a relatively modest income, so hardly the capitalist sort. Good luck to them! I hope youtube helps them make good sales.

  • Yes, but capitalism is used to help them market and sell their music. Today, a musician has a better oppurtunity to sell and market their music with a capitalist system, unlike with a fedual system of the dark ages.

  • @LordoftheKaty but todays music is from the wallet not the heart

  • In many respects, especially concerning todays music, that is very true. But you can't blame capitalism for it, it is the fault of their own greed. Capitalism is just a tool to make a decent and honest living with. And todays music is horrible because of their greed, because music today has no soul or real meaning anymore. That I do agree with you. And music is from the heart, not wallet, but the artist need some way to make a living to survive...no?

  • i love this song. very beautiful harp

  • Beautiful! (The music, the gown, the cap, the house, the player... everything!)

  • I love the gothic harps at EMS, an absolutely lovely sound.

  • great stuff

  • great!

  • LOOKS SO COUCHY THERE!!!! like the music!!

with a nice cup of wine mmm!!!

  • Well done Sarah !!!!!!

You're an amazing harp player ^^

  • So very joyous in a quiet, controlled manner. The human spirit is capable of amazing music.

  • I think the word you are looking for is 'sublime.'

It's no wonder people think of God, angels and heaven when they hear this music; it is beautiful, just as God, angels and heaven are beautiful.

  • @AchillesShield

actually this music smells of money and capitalism, don't know why. maybe because they made this video to make some $

  • Bravo, jolie interprétation, joli costume, belle mise en scène... c'est très agréable.

  • Ray Maguire ... I'm sorry to hear about your Dad's passing ... Colin.

  • Greetings to all my Belfastfolk friends ... from Jarrahnut in wonderful Western Australia.

  • This is just lovely. It appeals to me on so many levels. Well done. Bravo Sarah!

  • Bello e bene suonato.

  • Fantastico

  • Oh, eh, that's great.

Phantom, could you direct me to some jolly good whistle/flute videos on this thing. Music from the good ol' days I mean.

cormac breatnach is worth a look!

    Phil Williams aka phantombagpiper!

  • Yes I've heard Cormac Breatnach. He's especially dope. You're not him, are you?

  • I'm glad to see somebody paying attention to English folk music since it's been abandoned by most English people. This is great music

  • True, also a lot of tunes called 'Irish' are actually English in origin.

  • Well that is courteous medieval music. The gutter wasnt their home at all...

  • This is very beautiful sounding. To think that such a nice song came from a time period full of disease, rats and poo on the streets.

  • Hah! Blob, just pure eloquence!

  • you mean india?

  • Really nice

  • stunning this has inspired me to look more into medieval music as it seems so pure! thankyou!

  • I love medieval music.

  • wow, that song is amazing especially for 13th century! luv your harp and the outfit you are wearing and just the whole background is great!

  • This tune, as I concern, was in a 1973 albun of Gryphon (English Group of "Rock Ancient Music"). Nice to hear the original melody and rhythm. You are a great harpist, congratulations !!!

  • May i get this as ringtone ....?

  • Yes! - but only for your own use, not for sale!!

    Thanks for asking.

  • Sarah is one hot woman!

  • Breath taking. I love this

  • 500 YEARS BEFORE BACH!!

  • yeaph. the harp is a nice polyphonic instrument, and this is definitely a nice simple piece that showcases that.

  • thats just b-e-a utiful!

  • in terms of music, the medieval period was more advanced than any era before it. early on, monks put together the musical scale as we know it today.

truly, the middle ages is far more advanced than most give it credit for. it just so happens to be a bit rough around the edges;)

  • Another great performace!

  • thank you, it was good to listen to it!

  • Sarah - beautifully-played.

Thank you so much for this.

  • Fabulous. Loved the ending

  • It's easy to think that things were pretty barbaric back in medieval times, but this music proves that at least musically, they were very advanced. This is fine music in an era. :)

  • Beautiful music. Thanks for sharing.
