Difference between the much younger Wenck and the much older Manstein is that even in the worst of place and time, Wenck still possessed a reflexive, pragmatic, & conscientious mind independent of others. He's able to differentiate the orders of a clearly mad man, even in a mad world, from those of a more sane person. Wenck was willing to "think outside" of the box, even though it was very late in the game. Why sacrifice thousands more soldiers, the last few days, when it's not necessary?

Horrorable what happened in Beelitz. People taking their own lives, just of fear of the Russians. Was it just revenge for what the Germans did in their occupied countries and on their advance into Russia? The Germans treaded the Russians as sub-humans, can you blaim the Russians for doing the same? In my opinion not, but who am I? Just one of those millions of peaceloving familymen.

@Brera011 if you were put into a war you might be just as brutal. also just as in civilian life theres soldiers that are psychotic and actually love killing and raping. First Kill is an interesting documentary it explores this stuff, search youtube its interesting

@Vanyaaynav When the Germans invaded Russia they encountered the largest invasion force ever assembled in the history of the Earth, the attack threw the Red army out of control because they were completely geared for an offensive operation and that's why in the initial fighting so many millions of Red army soldiers were taken prisoner. The attack on Russia was pre-emptive and no, the Germans were never ordered by their superiors to rape civilians, unlike the Russians.

During war the red army has learned to fight. The culmination of it(this) was capture of Berlin for two weeks. Russian people very well remember atrocities of German the soldier, mass rapes of Russian women and murders of children, and also destruction and burning of villages and cities on occupied territories

LOL I talked to many soldiers of red army and they told to me that the red army was not ready to war in 1941. Therefore also has suffered bad losses in the first months of war.
