You have to FRC(Force Roman Cancel) it. Go into training mode and turn on the input display. Do a Gunflame and look at the input. There will be a blue flash. That's the FRC window. Press any combination of 3 buttons not including Dust(Dust+Attack=Burst which is what you don't want). If you time it correctly Sol will FRC the Gunflame.

if you have GGXX, go to practice mode and turn on the thingie that tells you what your'e pressing, when that thingie flashes blue is when youre allowed to do it... practice it and memorize the timing =D

I have this game.

This game is pretty balanced.

Sol Badguy, the character Daigo uses, is strong, but most of his moves have some sort of delay or some sort. His quickest one is Bandit revolver (the kick).

I play as Sol as well, and it gets pretty annoying that once you miss with one move, you are going to get hurt.

Anyways, this game is basically focused on its combos and story line.

If by shoto, you mean balanced, then it's just a matter of style.  Balanced characters are versatile and generally have no bad matchups and a strategy for every situation, and so Daigo just outskills the rest of the way.
